There's no indicator on screen for the smell. Ben will definitely get it when he gets there, though.

Sam alt-tabs back to the guide, refreshes it, and sees if there's anything new, like how to actually get grist or tips on initial setup

Ben gets up and sees the exercise machine has landed in the correct position, but there are large scuffs, and some damaged wood flooring. Also, it smells like cat for some reason, which really confuses him.

The guide actually hasn't been updated since he last looked. There's a lot of panicky text at the end, and then... Nothing.

Sam frowns and goes back to the guide directory. Well, that's not useful. Time to find another writer. One from today? Well, it's probably better than the drivel that clearly isn't being updated.
He begins reading over it and almost gags on the irony as the writer slathers purple prose in an introduction about not using purple prose. Even then, there's something about the writing. "Bringing about the end of the world"? "My condolences?" If this game interacts with the real world then there could be something more to what the writer knows.

Time for the real meat and bones. Cruxtruder? Tube. Check. Ticking? No. Check.

Sam begins placing the last few items- the totem lathe and the Alchemiter and then puts the prepunched card in clear view of Ben. Then, of course, he jumps to fact-check this guide's mention of the world ending. Clearly something insane like that would be confirmed with news reports.

The few items go down easily, if crunching a few things that were merely important.

The Guide seems to talk about meteors of some sort. Something like htat. And a time limit. But there's not much else. It's kind of glossed over, as if it would become self-evident.

Sam fact-checks using news sites as well. Meteors DEFINITELY would raise eyebrows.

Hannah tilts back her chair and stares at her computer screen. She's been bored out of her skull for the past half an hour and has tried everything to cure this boredom. Ranging from reading to playing games such as Fix-It Felix Jr. and Portal to even having a political discussion with her dear mother. She decides she's going to look for that Sburb Beta that everyone's been so hyped up about. After a long while of searching and falling back in her chair thus ripping the earphones violently from her ears, she's found it! She grins to herself, feeling rather proud of her unusual persistence when she'd normally have given up by now. She opens her email in a new window and waits patiently for the Beta to arrive. While she waits, she does some more bored multitasking. Knitting, reading, texting, anything under the sun to keep herself occupied. She tries to keep her patience.
