Time erases. This is an inevitable truth. That which it is not scoured away is usually left so faint and distorted that what is remembered bears little resemblance to the truth. But some things are indelible. Some truths stand against the erosion of ages, they are timeless, they are eternal.
They are Epic.
-----------------------
**It was nearly midnight, the small campfire around which the party was huddled reflected hypnotically off the Eastern Sea. They watched the flames carefully, sheltering it from the wind and spray, but more fearful of an ember escaping the crude stone hearth they'd constructed and igniting the makeshift wooden platform upon which they sat. There was no beach on this island, it was entirely encased in the particularly jagged coral that had engulfed it long before the Second Migration.**
-----------------------
Nearly a century ago it had happened, and it happened just as it had before. Horrific creatures, demons beyond description, began to appear and attack their cities with numbers and ferocity so great that even the most powerful of the eastlanders could not cast them back to whence they came. The forces that had overthrown ancient lords, armies of monsters and otherworldly evils were unable to best this new threat. Just as the Demons had driven their ancestors from their original home west of the Scions, this third invasion drove them from their homes again. Only this time, it was not just the humans. Members of most all the races of the east were forced to flee.
And as it was before, the people of the east split. Some would not, or could not, leave. The Dryads stayed, unwilling and unable to leave the trees to which they were bound behind unprotected. Most of the Ananke, so fiercely territorial, would not budge from their archipelago, thinking it safe from the dangers of what roamed the mainland, only to be almost entirely wiped out when the Redshot Coral began to spread. Most of the Oscarans hoped to win the favor of the demons, taking prisoners of their fellow eastlanders and sacrificing to the monsters. The majority of those that stayed behind though, whatever their race, did so to fight. Either to give the others time to escape, or out of outright refusal to admit defeat.
And finally, as it was before, a third, smallest faction did not flee nor fight, but undertook a quest. Aboard the flying ship Adelaar, they left this world. A small army composed of those best fit to fight the source of the demons, they went from reality to reality, seeking a way to save their home. They were never heard from again.
Those that fled had barely been able to escape alive. Flying demons had harried the fleet that carried them away, only just barely held at bay by the Highers and shipbound mages. More dangerous was the Redshot Coral, a construct of creation magic gone awry, which seemed to be awakened by some unknown evil and spread so rapidly outwards that it nearly enveloped their ships. They escaped in the end, however the entire coast of the eastern sea from Redshot on west became an impassable briarfield of fleshrending coral, stalked by bloodied demonic predators.
They finally landed across the eastern sea in a new land they called Sanctuary, and since then they have struggled to rebuild, their magics weakened without the vast leylines of power that had existed on Bakara and their technology similarly stunted by a resulting lack of the charged crystals they'd previously used to power it.
But now has come a beacon of hope. A smuggler sailing near Redshot, heading for Nadra (where a faction of the Nadrasks still reside for reasons unknown) spotted something in the night sky. There had been a might roar, a circle of whirling light, and a suddenly a flying ship had appeared, its sails aflame, streaking through the air above the smugglers, headed inland but descending rapidly. The Adelaar had returned, a century later. And they had to find out why.
----------------------
**Atop the makeshift pier, tied and nailed to the Redshot Coral, the small party of seven waited. The call had gone out. Now these seven waited to see who would join them on their quest. They would return to Bakara, find the Adelaar, and see what was to be found, be it their last hope or the nail in their coffin. Whatever the price...**
Harj – Today, we return.
Indeed we do. Hi all. For any that don't know me, I am Volraths_Bane. I was part of getting the original Colosseum going back on news before salvation came along and was creator of the original World Project, Epic World. I was one of the main World Moderators for the EW for the majority of its lifespan until I got a job and time started to catch up to me. I left the Colosseum pretty much all together.
But I often missed it. I've been laid off now for awhile and realized that while I probably don't have the energy to do what I once did, it would be a lot of fun to run a quest in the Epic World again.
This story will not necessarily be considered canon. For those who weren't a part of Epic World but want to be a part of this, either check out the extensive guide for that world, or, if you don't mind some meddling, you can just submit whatever character you want and I will modify it for you to fit into the world.
You can have one character on this quest to start, but can get more later. These starting characters can be descendants of those that migrated to the East or one of your old characters, if they have a decent reason to be alive a century later. I ask they be submitted to me via PM first. They don't have to be the old starting power, but of course no gods among up please.
This quests will however, split up, so we can cover as much of what has become of Epic World as possible. When this happens, you may create new characters so you can have up to one character per quest branch. These characters would be ones that stayed behind or descendants of such. Again, same approval request, same power level rules.
I, of course, and but one of many creative minds that created the Epic World. That is why, if any of the old WMs wish to be a part of this, I will gladly hand over to them reigns of any quest threads that deal with a city, location, or race that was their domain when the EW was running. They don't have to, but I would not dare make major decisions as to what became of what they created, canon or nor, without offering them the chance first. I will also offer control of NPCs to them on a case by case basis, if they are a still living character they once controlled or a descendant of such.
Feel free to post out of character on this thread, for now.
I hope there is still interest in this. Please spread the word to the old EW members so they know this is going on. I just hope people have fun with this.

Welcome back Bane! You just missed a removal of another attempted EW reboot. I'd love to see you do it. And I'll totally see if I can come up with a character who belongs here.
I have thought about it. I'll probably even work on something more permanent in my spare time while this is going. But for now this will be like getting our feet wet, and could be used to serve as a bridge for any reboot or continuance if it comes. The "dark possible future" episode.

Well sign me up.:) Been trying to find some good roleplay for a while now (and not the dirty kind. Okay, I was, but i was looking for them as two separate things), and this opportunity is perfectly timed.
I'll take a few days to decide on what character I want to play. Should we use any of the old spells/lingo from EW, or try to create a new system as we go?
If you want to use specific skill and spells trees and alike you are free to. Its also fine if you want to be vaguer. If you put "Midlevel plant magics" It would be fine. I'd assume spells and magics would have changed over a 100 years.
On a lark I am working completely revamping the old EW magics and LSSs. Maybe in the future I might be trying a soft reboot. We'll see.

Oh man, I remember them. Now to decide. Starting character fled with most of the others, or bring them in a little later and have them have stayed behind.
Oh, Also. If anyone wants any of their characters to have been on the Adelaar strike force (or conversely, any Adelaar crew members you want not to have been on it), let me know. You won't be able to quest with them really, but won't deny anyone the input. Right now assuming the Adelaar crew, some if not all the Dream Lords, certain NPCs, and both surviving Lum-Katar.

That's one more person in... Still trying to track down the rest, regardless of how creative my searching has to be, or how much of my more shameful 20 year old self I have to expose by logging in to inactive last.fm accounts to message DAK...
Anyone know if there are fairly active people in the Colosseum these days that might not have been around in the old days? I might want to contact them, see if I can get new and old blood in on this.

Oh definitely, the more the merrier. And make sure they know they don't have to be totally up on what the old EW was like as I can make EWify any incompatible aspects of characters they send me.
I have PMed Gato and DAK and keeping an eye out for the AIM names I have for them. Not on facebook or social media sites so don;t know how/if they can be contacted that way.
Has anyone heard from Tabby much since the EW died?

As far as I can tell, Tabby has been completely MIA since EW. When I talked to Gato a few years back he had said that even he hadn't heard from the Tabs in a few years.

Once I get starting character profiles from everyone. Also want to give time for people to find out about/be contacted about this. Hopefully not too long.

I agree. I feel like DAK will get around to noticing at some point, so I'm down with waiting for a few days. I also have the feeling that Tabby is going to show up out of the blue. He has that sort of timing.
Just establishing I am still here and planning on doing this, just trying to give people time. Meanwhile I am working on what to do for this and possible future EW stuff.
