Cross-posted from the original discussion in the Atruna OOC thread:
I'd be interested in a Pokemon RP reboot, though I would prefer if there were plot, world, or stylistic differences from the original games. It would have to be an experience you couldn't replicate just by playing the games. In particular, a forum RP tends to be slower moving and needs to handle many separate stories at once, so I'd be interested to see how you could modify the highly single-player oriented thrust of the Pokemon franchise to accommodate that.
Ok here is what I have so far, tell me if this is sounds ok...
The Region will be new, but the pokemon will be from Gen1 and Gen2. (Gen1&2 are because those are ones I know (and remember) the best, I played Gen3 but it felt like they were scraping the bottom of the barrel with that and everything passed that.)
There will be six starter pokemon to choose from. (Charmander, Cyndaquil, Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Squirtle, Totodile)
It will be stylistically similar to Atruna. (Card images representing the players, routes, towns, pokemon, and items. This will include a map.)
The pokemon's level and move trees will follow the Gold and Silver level and skill trees.
Any other suggestions/comments that sound interesting...
I think the most important elements to nail down are the mechanics of battle, exploration, experience, and capture. It may require some leniency from the game's normal structure, like the last version did. I just know I don't want all my posts for the first however many days to be "Tackle"
Edit: Also, but my favorite pokemon is a Gen IV evolution of a Gen II! I suppose it will be fun to fall back in love with the originals though.
Edit Edit: Also, you miiiight want to consider 3rd gen movesets. A lot of 2nd gen pokemon never learned moves of one of their types in 2nd gen, which was stupid and got fixed in 3rd gen. Jumpluff and Sneasel come to mind. Maybe give the option if a player really wants their pokemon to learn a move learned in a later generation to let them learn it? I dunno, I'm just passionate about my pokemon team-crafting. You could use the HeartGold and SoulSilver skill trees, then it still FEELS like using Gold and Silver.... right? Because that's totally the point, right?
Move Trees I don't mind as much, but what pokemon we get to pick from to start or catch along the way does concern me a bit, can't wait to see how this turns out.
City Contents (Beyond the obvious Poké Mart, Poké Center, etc...)
Combat mechanics are the hardest thing by far, I think. What it looks like the old version of World of Pokemon did was suuuuper-freeform, and that might not be a horrible idea here.
Letting us be gym leaders wouldn't be bad ideas as well.
That'll make things easier for you to handle, and I would really love to make a pokemon team based on a certain type like most NPC's do, but it would be really ineffective if I were to be just an adventurer.

Yes. They should probably all start as NPC gyms but you can take over an NPC gym if you a) have beaten the NPC gym leader, and b) have enough pokemon of the same type to use as your gym team.
Then players could give the gym back to its NPC owner if they got bored of gym-leading, and it wouldn't be much work for you, it seems.
Also, hooray Gen I-III !!!
I'm super excited for this to start. No rush though. .... OK some rush, but just because I'm excited.
Hi there. I was informed by Raptor that this was happening, and decided I should help out as I was able to. Let me start by addressing a few things that people have been asking about in this thread and from previous incarnations of the RP (I've been through a couple reboots already before attempting mine.)
I'm interested.
I wanted to join the current Pokemon but it looks so dead
That's because it is. Interest died off about a year into it, and I burned out mentally due to real life responsibilities at the time. Even bringing on a second person to assist didn't abate the situation.

As a side note to this, there was never any discouragement of PC-PC interactions by the active players. It's just the mentality created by all the games of "Oh, I can really only interact with NPCs, everyone has their own story."
Nai, I recommend that Raptor receive WPL status as quickly as possible. I have a ton of material in the WPL section that would be beneficial for getting started.

Gym Leader was always a possibility, at least in my version. Unfortunately, the game didn't last long enough for players to reach that point. Actually, the potential was wide open. One could have been a gangster, a research assistant, full time trainer, photographer, ranger, nurse, police officer, and on and on.
Shouldn't there be some NPC Gym leaders as well though?
Yes, every (open) gym should start with an NPC leader. I say open, because in my version, the starting city had a closed gym with the intention of a player re-opening it and running one themselves.
................................
I don't know what Raptor exactly intends to do, but I basically just wanted to show that the door is wide open for potential, and that the constraints of the games themselves need not be adhered to.
Just spitballing here, but in terms of the whole "What else goes in cities?/NPCs" question, you could have "Missions" like RPG quests where people in the world ask you to do things and reward you with good items that can still function in a forum version like TMs or stronger pokéballs. I don't know your battle system, so I don't know if potions will be a thing that makes sense. But having people and institutions who give missions is a good way to fill up cities and towns, and give players cool things to do that aren't the traditional league challenge.

Thoughts?
P.S. If anyone with more experience would like to head up the reboot, I'd pass off the torch...

By "reasonable" does that mean still restricted to Gen !-!!? Either way, its a good change.
