Rumours and legends speak of a magic engulfed island which can be reached only by skilled wizards but whose powers are then multiplied beyond description. And island where what the mind wants the physical world yields. This island is known as Tolaria.
Jonaleth yearns to reach Tolaria but he is aware that this journey might be tough and consuming not only on his body. At present he finds himself in the city of Arcadia which features a tavern, library and a number of residential buildings.
Jon draws his cloak around himself, and sets off down a street, looking for the tavern, and a place to settle so he can begin to figure out how to reach the isle of Tolaria. As he does, he lets his mind drift, and dredges up all relevant information he can about this place. (OOC: Where is it? What does he know about Arcadia? Etc..)
First, what time period is this? It's before the phyrexian invasion obviously. Mirage block then? Second, what possessions do I have, or do I decide that? Do I have any money, for example? I assume that yes, I have some. I also have a list of simple things Jon would have on hand at pretty much all times (arcane focuses for his spells, a simple sword+dagger pair, a bow with some arrows (for hunting in the wild, if need be), a satchel with some food and coin, a spellbook, a journal, a walking staff, some robes, and a thick cloak)
[OOC: You know little of Arcadia and that's why you need to explore the place. The names are taken from Magic stories but are unrelated and completely adapted. Don't be surprised if you find Yawmgoth in Tolaria
With regards to items you have the basic clothing items and materials but no weapons - you'll be finding those as you go along in your quest. So no bow and arrows here.]
Jon finds his way at the entrance of a small neat tavern, beautifully adorned with carved wooden figures on the outside. He can here music inside and the sound of people apparently enjoying themselves.
OOC: Do I have, you know, MONEY?? It might be nice ya know. Also, is a small knife alright (for cutting plants and things, or filleting a rabbit or somesuch, not for fighting, think pocket knife)?
IC: Hmm. This... should do for now. Jon enters the tavern, and looks about for a place to sit, preferably at the bar. He ignores the strange looks his silvered face brings.
Jon's voice is a strange double echo, thanks to the mask. "Yes... beer will do nicely." As she turns, he speaks up again, "A room for the night as well...."
While he waits, he pulls out his spellbook, opens it, and begins to make some notations on a difficult spell he's working on (OOC: Whispers of the Muse, he's puzzling out the buyback, and the trains of logic he'll need to traverse to cast it correctly).
The customer sitting on the nearby stool, a tall dark man clad with long black robes, turned round on hearing the echoing voice.
The barmaid nodded to the request and she gestured to the innkeeper to indicate that her customer needed a room for the night. In one quick instant, Jonaleth found a cold, chilling pint of beer on the counter in front of him.
Jon, being far more observant than might otherwise be indicated, notices the tall man, but says nothing. He lifts the mug, and tips it towards the mask (as though drinking). The liquid flows through the metal, and vanishes. (OOC: Just a magical mask that allows him to speak, eat, and drink through the metal.)
Jon continues to work on the spell, and downs the drink in a matter of moments. As he does, he simply indicates to the barmaid that he would like another. This continues till they close, if nothing else occurs.
The hours pass by and the alcohol keeps flowing. A group of young wizards entered the tavern and they immediately made themselves felt ... due to the loudness in which they were speaking.
After a couple of beers they became more restless.
Jon can hear: "Alexi is my girl - don't even try to look at her" A taller wizard answered: "Yeah or what" and then proceeded to push the shorter wizard over onto Jon, hitting his legs in the fall.
Jon is completely nonplussed by the man's attitude. "I am offering to help this man, not you. Perhaps he could stay the night with me, to prevent further disagreement? Believe me, you do not wish a fight."
He makes eye contact with the bigger man, and bores into him with his ice-blue eyes.
The man feels irritated at the apparently challenging behaviour and he stares back at Jon for some time. He then nodded his head and walked away with a a large number of the wizards that had just entered following him along.
The shorter wizard stood up and tried to rearrange his robes. "Oh, how can I thank you? I am Abel and I'm really grateful for what you just did."
"Abel, hmph. My name is Jon." He turns to look at the younger man, and inwardly sighs. I don't have time for this child, and yet, I did give my word. Perhaps he can be of use... "Sit with me Abel." Jon gestures to the chair next to him, and takes his seat.
"Tell me, what did I just witness? A dispute about some girl seems hardly befitting mages."
"You see Vladimir, the wizard whom you saw shoving me around ... he desires more than just my girl. He's a greedy wizard ... and a dangerous one at that."

In the meantime the barmaid when to search for the innkeeper who was nowhere in sight.
He makes eye contact with the bigger man, and bores into him with his ice-blue eyes.

Abel appeared to enjoy the friendly exchanges he was now having.
