Alam planted his trident into the dusty ground, his arms tensed in stretching movements.
Filthy.
These grounds were for the dogs, not someone like him. He deserved to be in the crowds. Amongst those who would sneer as they gleefully watched blood drip.
Tightening his grip on his weapon, Alam glared into the crowd. Cocking his head, he could see his opposition standing on the other edge of the arena. Little did they know that soon he would stand victorious. Soon the prizes shall be his. Soon he would return to the crowds rich once more.
Shana looked at everything, all while seeming to look at nothing at all. Her whip coiled in her left hand, she strode forward, her grace evident in every step she took.
Though her face was calm enough, her mind wandered....
I'm strong enough. I will prove them all wrong. I am more than they said I would be; I shall prove that to everyone, right here, right now.
With a long stride, Shana uncoiled the whip from her left hand, striking at the memories of the past.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

A plume of smoke and a thundering roar of the crowd signaled the beginning of the match.
Alam raised his trident and held it in an offensive form. Stalking towards his opponent, he muttered form phrases, honing his concentration. The dirt crunched underfoot, his heavy steps forming impressions in the ground.
First the weakness, then the mark. Strike true, Strike hard.
Shana stares through him, eyes as hard and solid steel.
You know what to do, she thought. Take that weapon out of his hands and fling it across the arena!
Her whip held in her left hand, uncoiled, she moves towards him, stepping lightly, barely leaving a mark in the ground at all. Dancing on the balls of her feet, she looks as if she is ready to bolt should he get too close. She eyes the length of his weapon, looking for the best place to wrap her whip around it and pull with all of her strength.
Near the head, she decided. His hands are near the middle, and if you pull him off-balance, he'll have to choose to fall with weapon in hand, or relinquish the trident. Once his is without his pointy stick, then you can strike.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

Alam eyed the whip lying in the girl's grip. He had watched many a match where unsuspecting opponents had been brought to their knees by the speed and accuracy of the underestimated whip.
She looked fast; nimble and deadly - she would surely play to her advatages. However, advantage was not without weakness, and he had his own cards to play. He was not as old as he looked, and the trident he held had slain many a warrior.
Breathing deeply, Alam ceased his repetitive chants and gritted his teeth.
Watching her opponent, ignoring the roars and chants of the crowd abover her, she throws her head back and begins a series of chant-songs designed to focus her mind on the task at hand.
I am the star in morning's sky. Become the star- rise above all else. I am the flame that never dies. Become the flame; elusive and scorching to all in your path. I am the voice in midnight's rain. Call thy enemy to battle; be as the water upon the stone. I am the spirit that's never tame. Be as a watchful spirit; let all pass through you as though you are not there. Keep thyself calm, and you shall prevail over those who battle with anger. A flame is dying, return to it all. Let the fire in your soul never die.
With a high-pitched cry, she ends her song, darting to the left side of her opponent.

Seeing the man swing his weapon, Shana dropped down flat to the ground, kicking up with her right foot and lashing out at the weapon as it swung over her head. His opponent had obviously anticipated his reaction and had struck accordingly. Alam braced himself, and felt her foot crunch into his arm. Alam twisted as the girl's whip screamed through the air. Snarling, he lost his footing as he swung around, his body pulled by the force he had put into the swing. Alam tripped and fell towards his opponent.
Shana saw her opponent falling, and knew that she had damned well better get out of the way or be forced to fight hand to hand on HIS terms...not good, as speed and agility can only get you so far.
She rolled to the left, snapping her whip upwards at an angle, trying to pull his weapon with it, and attempted to roll up from the ground onto her feet...hopefully standing over her opponent.

Alam brought his trident around as he fell. Gripping it, Alam threw his body weight through the trident towards the girl. She was quick, but was she this quick?
Feeling far too much weight on her upstretched arm, Shana is forced to snap her weapon upwards at a slightly different angle, so that the tip will uncoil and release the trident. As she does this, she moves herself sharply to the right, trying to stay out of his longer reach and more powerful hands.
Don't let him touch you, Shana, all men are the same.
A coldness overcomes her, and clarity returns. He can't hurt her because she won't let him.
As she dashes away from him, leaving his weapon in his hand, she kicks out, aiming for his face.

Alam gasped as he realised the girl had pulled away. Standing up, he saw the foot coming long before it connected. Unfortunately for him, the girl was living up to her strengths, and there was little more he could do than **** his head slightly to prevent any serious damage.
Flying backwards, Alam held his hand to his head, a throbbing headache pulsing in his head.
Distractions are nothing, filthy girl. Filthy fighter.
"Foolish girl. When I kill you here, I will buy and sell your family as slaves!"
Pacing backwards from the girl, Alam slowed his sharp breaths and concentrated on the girl, waiting for her next move.

Alam dug his feet into the soft dirt. A quick, rash move by either party would end quickly and bloody. That whip was perfect at range, and her speed ensured that she could escape from an open, close fight. Options spun in Alam's head as he evaluated the situation.

I need to either disable that whip or remove her speed advantage. Why not both?
Alam stepped back and lifted his trident. Crouching, he stared at the girl. With a roar, he charged at his opponent, his weapon glistening in the midday sun.
Dancing on the balls of her feet, she dashes gracefully to the right, arcing her whip over his head, but not trying to directly strike him with it. As she sidesteps his charge, she waits until he bypasses her, by just a bit....

Shana realized she had made a mistake. He had anticipated her jump, and it was a bit too late to back off now. She saw him jump at her, and she clutches her weapon close to herself, trying to protect as much of herself as she can so that she is not run completely over by his much-higher weight.

Alam squirmed as he tried to raise to his feet, the whip around his neck.
She moved her hands up the length of leather, getting the best grip she could, and crossed the lengths in an X and pulled.
