The officer nodded in agreement. He was clearly both surprised and relieved at their acceptance of his questioning, and he was sure to move quickly to take advantage of their agreement.

"Did you two see a young blonde woman run through this way? She would have been holding a briefcase and some sort of handbag."

Thomas gives a blank stare.
"Uhm. I don't think so. Can you be more specific? Please understand that this woman might've zipped by and she just didn't register."

Talia gave Thomas a short glance and a raised eyebrow, before turning back to face the police again.

"Nope, don't think so, officer. We must have missed her in all the confusion and such. A fire is a terrible thing really."

The policeman looked dissapointed. "Yes, terrible. Alright, could you point me in the direction of someone else you saw on the scean? We would like to find this person as quickly as possible." The policeman looks anxious to find this person.

"Oh, umm..." began Talia, looking around. "How about the two firemen that followed us into the hole just now?"

Thomas scratches his left sideburn.

"Come to think of it, we saw a lot of the people here on the scene. Can you tell us what's so important about this girl?"

"Thank you for you cooperation. And I'm sorry, but I don't even know why we are searching for this woman, only that it was a top priority." He paused for a moment. "I probably shouldn't have said that, just ignore it." He said as he turned to walk to a group of fire fighters. People were still running about in a sort of chaotic manner and the fire was still burning, just not as intensly as before.

"Is that officer strange or what?" mumbled Talia aloud, knitting her brows. "Why would be so top priority about that woman?"

"I could think of a few things, if they're looking for the woman I think they're looking for," Thomas whispered hoarsely.

"Care to enlighten me then?" asked Talia curiously, looking at Thomas. "Is she that friend of yours?"

"I guess she fits that description closely enough. Thanks for keeping mum. I don't really know half of what's going on."

He beams an awkward smile.

"It's been a really weird day."

"Tell me about it," mumbled Talia. "What was it you were going to tell me?"

After a moment's thought, she continued on. "Does it has anything to do with the fire, and that strange wisp of smoke?"

"You are totally not going to believe this, but that girl has powers."

Thomas rubs his eyebrows with his thumb and forefinger, as if he just realized that he said something profoundly stupid.

"And. I think I have powers too," he says, his eyes still covered by his hand.

"Powers?" asked Talia slowly, surprised. "You mean like Superman? Super strength, shooting lasers from the eyes and all that?"

"Yes. No. I don't really know that much, and this isn't the right place to give you a demonstration--and I don't even know if I could manage that."

Thomas looks around, almost desperate to get a glimpse of Kayla in the throng of people.

Where are you?

He looks at Talia. "I have seen really weird things today, and I would perfectly understand if you think I'm crazy, because even I have a hard time believing any of this, but I know it's all real."

"Then try me," replied Talia solemnly. "Let me judge by myself the validity of your statement... and demonstration."

"I can only show it to you with my friend around... at least that's how I know it works. So we'll have to find her, and I don't think she'll be too happy to know that I told you."

"You need your friend in order to show me what you can do?" asked Talia, looking surprised. "Now, I am curious."

"Do you want to look for her?"

As if they summoned her, Kayla was there "Where have you been? I've been searching all over for you." she said to Thomas

"Oh, there she is," Talia chirped out. "We were questioned by cops just now, looking for a woman."

"Really? Crazy, this whole thing is a little crazy at the moment." She looked very glad to see her friend.

"Crazy? I thought we were going to get arrested!"

Thomas gives her a sidelong glance.

"Oh, and she knows."

"So, what's up?" asked Talia, glancing between the two people. "I have a feeling I am going to be very surprised by this revelation. Come on, spill it."

She didn't seem to catch the meaning at first. "What?" She asked, partially confused.

[Who are they, especially the woman? What is her purpose? Why was she at the site of the fire? And why were those in authority looking for her? And what exactly can our friend, Thomas, do? :)]
