The year is 2006. All was well with the world, save a war, several bombings a day, and the regular thins that make the world unwell. But, since a minority of the population (which also happened to be in the controlling interest of money and other matters) were happy, all was well. America was quiet and, largely, people were content.
The town we're interested in is a little corner of suburbia, a town that isn't particularly interesting no matter how you look at it. It wouldn't be important to anyone but the people that lived in it and, perhaps, a bored cartographer. If it wasn't for this story, this town would be overlooked in the annuls of history. There is a story here, however.
Sometime in the dog days of summer, a murder occurred. The victim in question was a little child. The murder caused mass outrage and wonder at who could do such a terrible crime. But there was no sign of the killer. They had escaped without a trace. Two days later, another child was killed. This was the start of a very bad summer.
Four people are involved in this story. They were all enjoying a carnival in the middle of town as the Mambo begins.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

This is Deraxas we're talking about.
Remember, the girl that just killed an aspect of herself before literally consuming her?
Yeah, I don't see her handling a pissing match in any way other than a duel.

I suppose it's true. Though the logistics implied in a human/Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon pairing makes me shudder.
...Something tells me that even should all arcane casters in the world unite, that the Grease spell would NOT be sufficient.
Billy was sitting down on a bench playing on his DS. He found a Wifi signal there and was checking the GTS on his pokemon game. Beside him was a plate of nachos he just bought. He had chips in one hand and his stylus in the other.
John mutters to himself, "How'd I get here again?" and wanders about listening to some big band wondering if there's anything interesting at all, like a nice book stand or something.
There was a large jazz band playing nearby. Suddenly an announcement came up on the P.A. It was hard to understand, but the general idea was to go to the main event stage.
"ooo jazz." Said Billy as he finished his trade and shut off his game. (After saving of course) and tried to find the stage where the band was playing.
"Jazz is it? Good enough." John walks in that general direction, but keeps an eye out for any place to buy something to drink, water preferably, but spirits would do in a pinch.
Well, it can't possibly be more boring than sitting here watching people slobber all over each other and stuff themselves into oblivion.
Jeska stands up and walks slowly toward the main stage area, sidestepping various bits of refuse in her path. She takes out an i-Pod from her hip pocket and turns it on, inserting the headphone into one ear. A loud blast of hard rock music soothed her nerves.

John finds a vendor, and buys that water. In-between popping pills, he surveys the crowd, and sighs. "I hate people, especially these yuppie pricks that think they're entitled to everything and then some." Pills in hand, and scorn in mind, he finds his way to the stage.
Observing this, John gets a chill, and pushes through the crowd towards the man, digging out his cell as he does. As he reaches the man, he calls 911, and reports everything he saw (the man, the words, and the shot, along with the scene where the man fell).
Touching nothing, John can't help but admire the killer's flair. "Were I a killer, I'd be much the same I think..." he mutters under his breath.
Billy was on the edge of the crowd when the first shot fired. Our demise? This can't be good...
He looked around to see where the gunman was running, and then to see if there were other people about, ones that were not panicing. He knew that these people would be the one's to avoid. He quickly grabbed his cellphone and dialed 911 as he ducked behind a bench. Comon... go through!
"****." John is less than pleased. He looks about for anyone else, and notices Zavier, since he isn't moving or anything. (OOC: He doesn't know the name, I'm just using it here.) "Kid! Go find a cop, or someone!"
"Damnit, I was hoping to get someone good there..."
John, knowing he can do no more, starts limping/walking away, hoping that he finds someone who can help him out. As he walks, he curses to himself: "Devil take my deficient blood!"
John is lucky the devil is too busy with all the new souls right now. Shots are heard from a distance away in the carnival. But, even more grotesque than the knowledge of the death, is the fact that some of the dead don't seem to be... Well, dead. They're twitching. As if still alive.
John, now wishing more fervently that he had some real energy right now, is avoiding any one and everyone that should be dead, and isn't. He decides to do something stupidly risky, and begins to run for the gates, reasoning that should he make it home, he'll be able to regain his strength somewhat, and might just be ok (thanks to his rapier foil and the .22 rifle he keeps in case of theives).
Seeing the kid up ahead, he calls out again: "Hey kid, some help? Please?"
(OOC: I'm also done for the evening Lock Down, just a note.)

My helpdesk should you need me.
What am I doing here again? There's too many people, it's a demonstration of excess, and I think I might be missing CSI.
She walks around , avoiding the more obvious idiots, and tries to find a place where it would be quiet.

After he had satisfied his penchant for the dramatic, he drew a gun, shot someone in the head, and escaped off into the developing panicking crowd.

911 wasn't answering the calls. There was service, but there was no answer from emergency assistance.
