Welcome to the 8th iteration of the High Number Death Game!
First off, read the rules:
* Players may join at any time. If you want to join, simply participate in the next round. Players already in the game can sit out as many rounds as they wish.
* Each round, players PM me with a number. All players who submitted the highest number LOSE that many points, all other players gain points equal to the number they submitted.
* You do not have to post to say you are joining. Just PM me with your chosen number, and please put "High Number Death Game", "HNDG" or something similar in the subject line, as well as the round number.
* Players can go into negative scores.
* There will be a bid cap on each round.
* Players who submit a number higher than the bid cap will lose points equal to their bid, and their bid will be disqualified.
* The bid cap for round one is 100.
* After each round, the bid cap will be become the maximum of the cap from the previous round, and twice the second-highest bid from the previous round.
* Each round ends when the next round begins. This will be shown by me posting to say so in this thread, and posting the updated scoreboard. I will aim to do a new round about every 48 hours, but if it goes on longer because I can't get to the computer, the round will be extended and it won't really affect the gameplay.
* You may post on this thread to discuss the game/formulate strategy/attempt to manipulate your opponents.
* At the end of 10 Rounds, the player with the most points is announced the winner for this game, and we'll start again from round 1!
As this is the first round, you shall have ~48 hours instead of 24 to submit your round 1 bids. Thus, round 1 will end Saturday, October 29 at around 9pm.
A reminder that the round 1 cap is 100 and that each round the cap will become twice the second-highest bid under the cap.
I hope we're just using integers. They've got that nice clean feel to them, and integrity to boot. For instance, consider 82. Just look at it, beautiful number, that's a number you can be proud of.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
Wasn't there going to be an integer-only requirement this time?
Oh yeah. Forgot about that. Well, that's an addition to HNDG9, since I don't want to change the rules in the middle of this. Unless you all want to just toss out the current round 1 bids and start from scratch with that knowledge in mind?

Or maybe if Error is being facetious with his guess then 90 would be top number!
No, clearly 82 is the correct guess, and we should all use it.

2 words: TRUNCATE.
Sounds good to me.
Updated rule, then: Any number will be rounded DOWN to the nearest number if it is not an integer.

I can afford to lose a lot of points, so I don't have to bid high. This should be interesting.
