NOTE: I am going to be out of town next weekend. As such, this 3CB will remain open until I get back. Do not expect a 3CB next monday, but a few days late. If you feel like it, submit a deck for both this week and next week. They will be the exact same format.
Before we start, just thought I'd let you know that you can go to TheManaDrain to enter in their 3CB Here. They're hurting for players, so please, play both!
Also, there's a 3CB article for the front page. The first installment will be seen on Saturday.
ALSO: Enough people were confused by the 12:00 deadline for this week (5, to be exact) that I retroactively extended it to 12:00 Midnight. Because of confusions like this, I'll not be continuing this format. There's a much cleaner way of doing expected-metagame formats anyway!

Analysis:
I don't have time at all for deck reviews (it's currently 1:30 AM and I have to write a 3-page paper before going to sleep) but I do have one thing to say:
What an odd, odd metagame this week. Really. Very odd.
Watch list:
Nothin'
Banned cards (alphabetized, since it will be long for the next few weeks): PLEASE CHECK YOUR DECK BEFORE SUBMITTING
The Rack
Form of the Dragon
All ante cards
Any card that forces your opponent to discard more than 1 card a turn.
Any non-mass-produced card (Proposal, 1996 World Champion, etc.)
Unglued
Unhinged
Banned Decks:
*Any deck that can feasibly force your opponent to discard more than 1 card a turn. (The word force here is important. Mind Bomb is still legal, unless combined with Mindslaver ) (NOTE: Remove-From-Hand effects count as discarding)
*Any deck that can feasibly win on the first turn.
The Next Tournament
The next tournament starts right now and will be tabulated on the closing day. Entries will be closed sometime on the week of Feb 20th, 2005 at and results will be posted soon thereafter
THE NEXT TOURNAMENT WILL BE A SPECIAL FORMAT!!!
It seems that five players have strolled in from out of town, and are so cocky that they're willing to show you their decks! The following decks will be considered a part of the game this week. Any player who submits a deck that goes 6-0 vs. all of these decks will get 40 extra points. Going 3-3 or better vs. all of these decks is 10 extra points.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH DETAILS
Ways to get points:
+X points for each point you get in a 3CB tournament (i.e. if you get 30 points in a tournament, you get 30 POTM points)
+10 points for winning a "Coolest Deck" title (I will no longer be eligible for this)
+5 points for winning a "Coolest Deck Name" title (I will no longer be eligible for this)
If you have any questions about this format, about the rules, or simply want to see some statistics about the game, visit www.basementdwellers.com/3cb The 3CB page!
On the page, you'll find this week's format, links to all the 3CB's, and all-time rankings.
[-----------------------------] POTM TROPHY THINGAMAJIGGER
I realized that I'd never seen a Trivia/Games/Contests thread give out real-world prizes for their online games. I thought it might be interesting to try out.
So, every POTM winner (including, retroactively, Dusk_ and Fadeblue) will recieve (assuming they're willing to give me their adress) a customized 3CB trophy. It will be a card from my collection which somehow fits you and will have written on it "3CB POTM WINNER!" and the date.
It's nothing you could sell on eBay but it should be fun nonetheless.
(I'm still working on these)

I'd sincerely appreciate all suggestions being in that format. Having the decklist of what I'm correcting in the post makes things 100% easier for me. Thanks.
ANYway,
Feel free to discuss this week's and next week's 3CB in this thread and post any questions you may have! Good Luck!
10 - Ankh-Morporkian: Treetop Village, Eladamri's Vineyard, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
The Variation of a netdeck
23 - reedofalethia/aurorasparrow: Saprazzan Cove, Indentured Djinn, Confiscate
So long ago.dec
Current score: 0-6
Suggested Score: 3-3
Reason: I should 3-3 reedofalethia/aurorasparrow's deck, because when I go first, I race him. He can't play the djinn, because the Tabernacle would kill it, meaning he has to race for the Confiscate, and is barely too slow:
A1: Village(20-20)
r/a1: Cove(20-20)
A2: Vineyard, Tabernacle(20-20)
r/a2: Counter on Cove, burn for 2(20-18)
A3: Activate Village, attack(20-15)
r/a3: 2 counters on Cove, burn for 2(20-13)
A4: Activate Village, attack(20-10)
r/a4: 3 counters on Cove, burn for 2(20-8)
A5: Activate Village, attack(20-5)
r/a5: 4 counters on Cove, burn for 2(20-3)
A6: Activate Village, attack(20-0)
14 - Feyd_Ruin - Black Lotus, City of Traitors, Kodama of the North Tree
The Pentacle of the Five Trees
22 – help im a bug – Mox Jet, Mishra’s Factory, Ravenous Rats
It Looks Like People Are Walking Into...
Current Score - 3-3
Suggested Score - 1-4
When he goes first, I can double block his Kodama and kill it. The factory pumps up to 3/3.
20 - Shadowlord - Taiga, Thallid, Crack the Earth
Sarnath'd???
22 – help im a bug – Mox Jet, Mishra’s Factory, Ravenous Rats
It Looks Like People Are Walking Into...
Current score - 4-1
Suggested score - 2-2
when he goes first:
1 Taiga, thallid 20-20
1 Mox, Factory, Rats (discard crack) 20-20
2 Sit there (1 counter) 20-20
2 Attack with everything 20-17
3 Attack (2 counters) 19-17
3 Attack - 19-14
4 Attack, remove counters, make a token 18-14
4 Attack with everything 18-11
5 Attack, (1 counter) 16-11
5 Attack with everything 16-8
6 Attack, (2 counters) 14-8
6 Attack with everything 16-5
7 Attack, make a second token - 14-5
7 Attack with everything 14-2
8 Sit there (1 counter)
8 Attack with everything, everything is blocked and we all die. GG!
Question: I understand that if we can 6-0 all five of those decks we get extra points. However, I don't understand if, in addition, those decks are also in the round.

just think of it as Ankh (you know... an Ankh) More Pork, Ian. That's how I remember it :tongue2: (without the e, anyway)
That's how to remember my name. Or, you could just read the Discworld Novels by Terry Pratchett. I recommend the second method.:)

And dear god, it's on the INTERNET! It has to be true!
...riight.
20 - Shadowlord - Taiga, Thallid, Crack the Earth
vs
16 - Nazgul_Master - Black Lotus, Treasure Hunter, Dissipate
suggested:2-2
should be:4-1
If i go 1st:
S:Taiga,Thallid
N:Glowrider
Thallid is better than Glowrider so i win
If he goes 1st
N:Lotus,Glowrider
S:Thallid,i win.
so he has to keep for dissipate
N:Lotus
S:Taiga,Thallid
N:Disspate
and we draw...
Um... where did you get Glowrider?
<edit>
Actually, running the numbers, should be 3-3:
First match goes (almost) exactly like you said. a 2/2 can't outrace arbitrarily large numbers of saps
Second match:
N: Lotus, Hunter, Lotus
If S goes Taiga, Crack, he has to sac his only mana source and N can just sac the Lotus, N wins
If S goes Taiga, Thallid, N Counters with Dissipate, N still wins
Shadowlord - Yes, the decks are part of the regular game. So if you draw vs. one you still get 2 points.

25 - Greebo - Rishadan Port, Mishras Factory, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
9 - Bluemage 76 - City of Traitors, AEther Vial, Chisei Heart of the Oceans
Current Match Score: 0-6
Suggested Match Score: 2-2
You are correct here.
--------------------
25 - Greebo - Rishadan Port, Mishras Factory, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
18 - Alfred - Fountain of Cho, Devout Witness, Swords to Plowshares
Current Match Score: 2-2
Suggested Match Score: 6-0
Also correct. I knew the Port trick vs. Swords and the Tabernacle/wait it out trick vs. Witness, but forgot to put the two together

10 - Ankh-Morporkian: Treetop Village, Eladamri's Vineyard, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale

23 - reedofalethia/aurorasparrow: Saprazzan Cove, Indentured Djinn, Confiscate

Correct; I did the race incorrectly.

14 - Feyd_Ruin - Black Lotus, City of Traitors, Kodama of the North Tree
The Pentacle of the Five Trees
22 – help im a bug – Mox Jet, Mishra’s Factory, Ravenous Rats

Suggested Score - 1-4
You're joking! I remember sitting there, reminding myself that you could gang block the Kodama, and I apparently put down 3-3. Bah. Changing.
-----------------------
Whamme - 3
Alfred - 18
Listed 0-6 should be 2-2
Correct. Sigh. That is so obvious. WTF happened last night?
------------------
10 - Ankh-Morporkian
18 - Alfred
Listed 0-6 should be 2-2.
Correct. I forgot about using Vinyard to cast the Witness.
----------------------
20 - Shadowlord - Taiga, Thallid, Crack the Earth
vs
13 - Hivemaster - Karakas; Isamaru, Hound of Konda; Swords to Plowshares
Suggested:0-6
Should be:2-2
This is wrong, but I also got it wrong. If he goes first, he goes:
Karakas/Isamaru
You: Taiga/Thallid
Him: Stp
You: Crack (he sacs Karakas)
SALAd - you are correc tthat he can sac the Lotus to the Crack. However, he cannot do so if he sacs it to the Dissipate.
Why should he counter it? <edit follows>
Scenario 1: N counters the Crack, S keeps his Taiga, we end up with same scenario from game 1: Thallid vs. a 2/2. S wins
Scenario 2: N allows the Crack to resolve. BOTH players must sac a permanent: S must sac his only mana source, N only sacs his Lotus, leaving a 2/2 vs. an empty board. N wins.
Player A: Black Lotus/Treasure Hunter/return Lotus/Play Lotus
Player B: Taiga/Thallid
If player A does not counter the Thallid, he loses because Thallid beats vanilla 2/2.
If player A does counter Thallid, this happens:
Player A: Black Lotus/Treasure Hunter/return Lotus/Play Lotus
Player B: Taiga/Thallid (Dissipated, Lotus is sacced to pay for Dissipate)
Player A: Attack with Treasure Hunter
Player B: Crack the Earth, B sacs Taiga, A sacs Treasure Hunter, draw.
AAAAAAAAAH, I'm the last
What happened to all that Visara players? Or Worldgorger? Hmpf, false metagame for Meekstone :/
At least I won against the winner

POTM TROPHY THINGAMAJIGGER
I realized that I'd never seen a Trivia/Games/Contests thread give out real-world prizes for their online games. I thought it might be interesting to try out.
So, every POTM winner (including, retroactively, Dusk_ and Fadeblue) will recieve (assuming they're willing to give me their adress) a customized 3CB trophy. It will be a card from my collection which somehow fits you and will have written on it "3CB POTM WINNER!" and the date.
It's nothing you could sell on eBay but it should be fun nonetheless.
(I'm still working on these)

Also, everyone, Listen Up:
New format for suggesting corrections:
I'd sincerely appreciate all suggestions being in that format. Having the decklist of what I'm correcting in the post makes things 100% easier for me. Thanks.
ANYway,
Feel free to discuss this week's and next week's 3CB in this thread and post any questions you may have! Good Luck!

The Variation of a netdeck
23 - reedofalethia/aurorasparrow: Saprazzan Cove, Indentured Djinn, Confiscate
So long ago.dec
Current score: 0-6
Suggested Score: 3-3
Reason: I should 3-3 reedofalethia/aurorasparrow's deck, because when I go first, I race him. He can't play the djinn, because the Tabernacle would kill it, meaning he has to race for the Confiscate, and is barely too slow:
A1: Village(20-20)
r/a1: Cove(20-20)
A2: Vineyard, Tabernacle(20-20)
r/a2: Counter on Cove, burn for 2(20-18)
A3: Activate Village, attack(20-15)
r/a3: 2 counters on Cove, burn for 2(20-13)
A4: Activate Village, attack(20-10)
r/a4: 3 counters on Cove, burn for 2(20-8)
A5: Activate Village, attack(20-5)
r/a5: 4 counters on Cove, burn for 2(20-3)
A6: Activate Village, attack(20-0)
EDIT: Formatting
That's how to remember my name. Or, you could just read the Discworld Novels by Terry Pratchett. I recommend the second method.:)
And dear god, it's on the INTERNET! It has to be true!
...riight.
The Pentacle of the Five Trees
22 – help im a bug – Mox Jet, Mishra’s Factory, Ravenous Rats
It Looks Like People Are Walking Into...
Current Score - 3-3
Suggested Score - 1-4
When he goes first, I can double block his Kodama and kill it. The factory pumps up to 3/3.
20 - Shadowlord - Taiga, Thallid, Crack the Earth
Sarnath'd???
22 – help im a bug – Mox Jet, Mishra’s Factory, Ravenous Rats
It Looks Like People Are Walking Into...
Current score - 4-1
Suggested score - 2-2
when he goes first:
1 Taiga, thallid 20-20
1 Mox, Factory, Rats (discard crack) 20-20
2 Sit there (1 counter) 20-20
2 Attack with everything 20-17
3 Attack (2 counters) 19-17
3 Attack - 19-14
4 Attack, remove counters, make a token 18-14
4 Attack with everything 18-11
5 Attack, (1 counter) 16-11
5 Attack with everything 16-8
6 Attack, (2 counters) 14-8
6 Attack with everything 16-5
7 Attack, make a second token - 14-5
7 Attack with everything 14-2
8 Sit there (1 counter)
8 Attack with everything, everything is blocked and we all die. GG!
Draw.
Listed 0-6 should be 2-2
I should also shouldn't lose to #10: Here is how it plays out:
T1: Treetop
T1: Cho
T2: Vineyard, Tabernacle
T2: Counter (18, 20)
T3: Attack (15, 20)
T3: Counter (13, 20)
T4: Attack (10, 20)
T4: Counter (8, 20)
T5: Attack (5, 20)
T5: Using vineyard mana + counter cast Witness.
T6: Attack (2, 20)
T6: Stack upkeep cost for Tabernacle, use cho to activate witnesses ability and destroy vineyard.
Tie. Listed 0-6 should be 2-2.
I should 3-3 #12: Here's how it plays out going first:
T1: Cho
T1: Meloku
T2: Counter
T2: Attack (18, 20) token (take mana burn) (18, 19)
T3: Swords meloku (18, 21)
T3: Attack (17, 21)
T4: Counter
T4: Attack (16, 21)
T5: Counter
T5: Attack (15, 21)
T6: Counter
T6: Attack (14, 21)
T7: Witness
T7: Attack (13, 21)
I win the damage race going first.
I should also 6-0 #26 and #27, because sphere of resistance down't stop me from STP their creatures. It just takes 1 more mana to do it.
I should get 16 extra points.
That's how to remember my name. Or, you could just read the Discworld Novels by Terry Pratchett. I recommend the second method.:)

my sig. made by me.
I got badly beaten, and didn't even win for a creative deck title... The Beatles man! How can
whiteblack beat THE BEATLES?!?!Hopefully I'll do better against this meta...
Um... where did you get Glowrider?
<edit>
Stax - you were runner up for coolest name :D.
Shadowlord - Yes, the decks are part of the regular game. So if you draw vs. one you still get 2 points.
---------------------
25 - Greebo - Rishadan Port, Mishras Factory, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
--------------------
10 - Ankh-Morporkian: Treetop Village, Eladamri's Vineyard, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
The Variation of a netdeck
23 - reedofalethia/aurorasparrow: Saprazzan Cove, Indentured Djinn, Confiscate
So long ago.dec
Current score: 0-6
Suggested Score: 3-3
Correct; I did the race incorrectly.
----------------------
14 - Feyd_Ruin - Black Lotus, City of Traitors, Kodama of the North Tree
The Pentacle of the Five Trees
22 – help im a bug – Mox Jet, Mishra’s Factory, Ravenous Rats
It Looks Like People Are Walking Into...
Current Score - 3-3
Suggested Score - 1-4
You're joking! I remember sitting there, reminding myself that you could gang block the Kodama, and I apparently put down 3-3. Bah. Changing.
-----------------------
Whamme - 3
Alfred - 18
Listed 0-6 should be 2-2
Correct. Sigh. That is so obvious. WTF happened last night?
------------------
10 - Ankh-Morporkian
18 - Alfred
Listed 0-6 should be 2-2.
Correct. I forgot about using Vinyard to cast the Witness.
----------------------
20 - Shadowlord - Taiga, Thallid, Crack the Earth
vs
13 - Hivemaster - Karakas; Isamaru, Hound of Konda; Swords to Plowshares
Suggested:0-6
Should be:2-2
This is wrong, but I also got it wrong. If he goes first, he goes:
Karakas/Isamaru
You: Taiga/Thallid
Him: Stp
You: Crack (he sacs Karakas)
OR
Him: Karakas/Isamaru
You: Taiga/Crack (he sacks Karakas)
Him: Swing for win!
Should be 4-1 his favor.
--------------------
20 - Shadowlord - Taiga, Thallid, Crack the Earth
vs
16 - Nazgul_Master - Black Lotus, Treasure Hunter, Dissipate
suggested:2-2
should be:4-1
Correct.
SALAd - you are correc tthat he can sac the Lotus to the Crack. However, he cannot do so if he sacs it to the Dissipate.
Sorry about this week, guys. Lotsa stuff going on, and a lot of complicated matchups. Next week will be better
-Goblinboy
Why should he counter it? <edit follows>
Scenario 1: N counters the Crack, S keeps his Taiga, we end up with same scenario from game 1: Thallid vs. a 2/2. S wins
Scenario 2: N allows the Crack to resolve. BOTH players must sac a permanent: S must sac his only mana source, N only sacs his Lotus, leaving a 2/2 vs. an empty board. N wins.
B: Taiga/Thallid
If he lets the Thallid through, he loses. He has to Dissipate it or he loses. Thus, when Crack gets cast, he has to sac the hunter.
-Goblinboy

I'll shut up now...
that energy field deck is annoying. not so easy to go 3-3 or better against.
4th place at CCC&G Pro Tour
Chances of bad hands (<2 or >4 land):
21: 28.9%
22: 27.5%
23: 26.3%
24: 25.5%
25: 25.1%
26: 25.3%
Player B: Taiga/Thallid
If player A does not counter the Thallid, he loses because Thallid beats vanilla 2/2.
If player A does counter Thallid, this happens:
Player A: Black Lotus/Treasure Hunter/return Lotus/Play Lotus
Player B: Taiga/Thallid (Dissipated, Lotus is sacced to pay for Dissipate)
Player A: Attack with Treasure Hunter
Player B: Crack the Earth, B sacs Taiga, A sacs Treasure Hunter, draw.
-Goblinboy
What happened to all that Visara players? Or Worldgorger? Hmpf, false metagame for Meekstone :/
At least I won against the winner
