This idea was mentioned in a thread a few weeks back. Seeing as there is a lack of card blind games now, i figured I would start this up. Every week this thread will run a different varient of a card blind game. It can be as simple as 3 card stud, or as complicated as the current 2cb we have going now.
I'm going to moderate; but I'm going to be really lazy about it :D. Seriously, very, very lazy. Everyone will have to figure out their own portion of the grid. Actually, I just realized that will let us do more complicated weeks. If someone could help me with a general set of rules, that would be great. What I'm thinking is that there would be a short rule set that we can use week to week, and a list of pre-planned rules that can just be there for specific weeks. For example, we might have "60 card deck of lands", "Automatic land each turn", "Pay 1 life: add one mana," and "No lands besides those in your hand" as prepared mana rules; each week you could pick from the list or make up a new one.
As for how to determine what variant we're going to run each week... Just post ideas; I'll put up a poll in addition to the results on saturdays and everyone will have the weekend to vote. Whoever has the most votes wins. In the case of a tie I'm just gonna pick one.
Finally, since we're changing the rules each week, there will definitely be rules conflicts and ambiguous rules. In the event that someone misinterpreted the rules or they weren't clear enough, the person who came up with the idea for the week has final say. Everyone must adhere to their decrees. (So, if you're not sure about something, it's in everyone's interest to ask)
How's it sound? Any ideas for games? Anything I should change? Is this even feasible?
EDIT: I'd like to kick this off this week, so get your ideas in. I've only got one entry so far, and it's mine. The schedule will be a bit accelerated this week. I'm going to put up a poll sunday night, close it monday night. Decks will be due Friday at 5pm EST, I'll try to get everything up so you guys can check it out that night.
EDIT: It seems I'm a little too ambitious. I'm going to give this a week to warm up, get some options, and run a poll next weekend.
0. Overview
Card Blind Labratory (LabCB) is a weekly Magic tournament, run entirely within this forum. To compete, players submit decks which are played against each other. Scoring assumes optimal play, without randomness or concealed information.
Unlike other Card Blind formats, LabCB does not have a consistent format that players always use. Instead, each round is different, with changing rules and card counts.
1. Game Rules
1.1. Except for the changes described in these rules, games follow the rules for a normal game of Magic.
1.2. Players' decks contain exactly X cards, where X is equal to the round's format card count, which begin the game in hand. Players do not mulligan or sideboard.
1.3. A player does not lose the game as a result of being unable to draw a card.
1.4. A random effect produces the result that least benefits the owner of the source of the effect.
1.5. Each player plays two games (one match) against each other player.
1.5a. Each player is the starting player once per match.
1.5b. If no player can win, then the game is a draw.
1.5c. Games are played with perfect information.
1.5d. Games are played optimally; players attempt to win, draw, or extend the game – in that order.
1.6 If any rules specific to the week's format conflict with the rules listed here, these rules are overridden.
1.7 If any rules disputes occur between players during a weekly format, the format's creator has the final word over the interpretation of his or her format. If the creator is not available before the beginning of the next round, the moderator has the final word.
2. Tournament Rules
2.1. Players submit their decks to the 2CB moderator.
2.1a. Players submit their decks by private message (pm).
2.1b. A player may submit multiple decks, but only the most recent deck is counted.
2.1c. An illegal deck is not counted. At the moderator’s discretion, an illegal deck may be replaced by a similar deck – in which any offending cards have been removed or replaced.
2.1d. The moderator determines the result of each match. Players may challenge results, but not after the results of the first round belonging to a new month have been posted (see Rule 2.4a).
2.1e. A player may name his or her deck. If a player does not, then the moderator may name it.
2.2. Decks are subject to some restrictions.
2.2a. A player may not submit a deck that can't win both games of a match against at least one deck satisfying all rules.
2.2b. A deck may include any number of any card that will become legal in Vintage upon release of a set that has been revealed fully and officially since the start of the round.
2.2c. A deck may include any number of any card legal in Vintage (Type 1).
2.2d. A deck may not include any cards listed on the banned list, which changes and is posted with the format of the round.
2.3. Points determine tournament standings.
2.3a. Players are ranked – first to last – in order of decreasing number of points.
2.3b. For each match, a player earns 3 points per game win and 1 point per drawn game. However, a player earns only 2 points for a split match (a win and a loss).
2.3c. The combined result of both games in a match is called a "match result". Possible match results are: 6 – two game wins, 4 – a win and a draw, 3 or 2 or S – a win and a loss, 2 – two draws, and 1 – a draw and a loss.
2.3d. A table of match results is posted each round. Its rows represent players and its columns represent opponents. A player's points are listed at the end of his or her row.
2.4. The player with the most Player of the Month (POTM) points over the course of a month is the Player of the Month.
2.4a. A month includes all rounds for which decks are due during that month.
2.4b. Each round, each player receives POTM points equal to his or her average match result for that round multiplied by 100, rounded to the nearest integer. For example, a player scoring 6-6-6-6-X-0-0-0 in a round with 8 decks receives 343 POTM points (24 / 7 x 100 = 342.8 Rounded to 343).
2.4c. Each round, for one week after the submitted decks have been posted, 50 POTM points will be awarded to the first player to post a deck that scores 6 points against each submitted deck.

One of the reasons we're pruning the current 2CB rules is that I plan on using this XCB lull (we seriously only have one XCB running atm, prior to this thread) to streamline all of the XCBs together. As such, I'm already planning on making a ruleset for 1CB / 1CBB, 3/4/5cb, etc.
I have no eta on when I'll complete these, since my current IRL life is quite busy. But when I get them done, it should help. For your continual rulesset, I recommend starting with the current 2CB set, since it has been redone from the ground up.
Also, if you don't have the XCB Modtool yet, see here.
It'll especially be of use to you, since you can change the card count, etc, quickly.
Sidenote: For naming and reference sake, I recommend "LabCB" instead of "XCB Lab".
Also, I always play all XCBs, so count me in

That looks really good. I think I'm going to cut out 2.4c If there is never a defined meta, it might be hard to pick a creative deck. Having two polls each week, or me picking a deck arbitrarily both seem like bad alternatives. The 6-0 rule might be fun though. With the format changing each week, it could be easier to 6-0 the field.
Additionally, I think the empty library part of 1.3 and all of 2.2a might be too specific to the previous blind formats. I'm also going to add:
1.6 If any rules specific to the week's format conflict with the rules listed here, these rules are overridden.
1.7 If any rules disputes occur between players during a weekly format, the format's creator has the final word over the interpretation of his or her format. If the creator is not available before the beginning of the next round, the moderator has the final word.

Additionally, I'm going to submit this potential format:
5 Card Blind - With Library
Players start the game with 5 basic lands of their choosing in hand, and 10 cards in their deck.
Players choose 5 Legacy legal cards as the first 5 cards of their library and 5 basic lands as the second 5 cards of their library.
Players choose the order of the cards in their library.
Any effect that would shuffle or change the order of a library does not; however, effects can remove cards (such as intuition).
Any spell or ability that would cause cards in an opponent's library to change zones is countered by game rules.
Players lose if they would draw from an empty library.
The person who plays first does not skip the draw step of his or her first turn.
Cards can't be shuffled into your library. They're exiled instead.
Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.
Players choose 5 Legacy legal cards as the first 5 cards of their library and 5 basic lands as the second 5 cards of their library.
Players choose the order of the cards in their library.
This does mean that you have to place your 5 basics below your five other cards, right?

Someday, I would like to do a team Card Blind competition. Players announce in advance what team they would like to join (Team A or Team B), converse with their fellow teammates, then submit decks. The team with the higher score wins! To make scoring fair, regardless of how many people are on each team, a team's total score is multiplied by the number of players on the opposing team to get the adjusted score. (The round would play out like normal card blind, you still have to fight against your teammates.) For instance:
Team A : 05 Players : 20.0 Score Total
Team B : 10 Players : 40.0 Score Total
Team A : 20.0 x 10 = 200.0 Adjusted Score
Team B : 40.0 x 05 = 200.0 Adjusted Score
-----
Team C : 02 Players : 20.0 Score Total
Team D : 10 Players : 120.0 Score Total
Team C : 20.0 x 10 = 200.0 Adjusted Score
Team D : 120.0 x 02 = 240.0 Adjusted Score
Feyd, any format or card restrictions on the backbuild? Since everyone does their own grid, I think it might be feasible if we ban a few cards or restrict it to legacy/modern/standard, etc.
Draco9, any specific game you wanted to do with teams? How many cards, what format, special rules?

This does mean that you have to place your 5 basics below your five other cards, right?
Is anyone else in?
Also, I'm going to give everyone a week to think of some good variants. Three days might have been too ambitious.

Draco9, any specific game you wanted to do with teams? How many cards, what format, special rules?

Revolving Strawman XCB
Normal rules, except for each deck submitted MUST lose 0-6 to the worst deck placing deck submitted in the prior week. (With ties... the mod chooses.)
It could be interesting. My guess is that it would follow a wave of strong and weak decks week after week.
(I really like this week XCB lol)
