The rules of normal ~CB games remains the same...with the following twist. With each deck submitted to me by PM, also submit 1 card to Ban. Nobody will know what cards are banned until I am ready to post results. All cards banned will effect all players, and thus be removed from all players deck submissions.
This will create an intresting Metagame, since players will find themselves building decks from cards they feel are less likely to get banned. I chose 7CB since this means people can build decks that get a few cards banned and still have playable decks.
**If a card is banned, NOBODY can play it in the entire event. Yourself included. The idea is for people to Meta around more obscure cards, the usual strategies will most likely be neutered by a random banning. If you make a deck of all power cards (or all the same card), do not be surprised if you wind up playing with empty or neutered decks.
**New rule. This week we will try something new. If a card gets banned, it will be replaced with a basic land matching the first colour of the first legal non-colourless card in your list. How this effects game play, it should prevent people from being completely crippled losing 1 card.We will vote on this after the game is over.
**I noticed certain cards seem to get singled out, if everyone bans the same card that makes for a very lame Meta.
***BONUS CONTEST*** The Mods Vetoed my siggy card (the Asinomancer) because it was too big. I thought it would be a cool to have a Banner for BAN HAMMER to direct people here. Lets see who can make the best Banner. Post entries here and everyone can vote.
you should just permanantly ban any cards that get chosen all the time.
this way the format has a chance to evolve, otherwise people will have a tendancy to just ban the real power cards
Why do you think the Lotus was banned? We had a discussion about this in the other thread. Force of Will, something you'd assume would always get banned, was not. That's probably because everyone assumed someone else would ban it, so they banned something more specifically dangerous.
If everyone banned Lotus every week, or if there was arbitrarily large amount of Lotus bannings each week, then I would back it indefinitely. I think the threat of it being banned both prevents people from depending on it and prevents people from banning it.
It's probably fine if it stays on the perm ban list, though.
alot of random cards would eventually see permaban...check last weeks list...do you want Taiga permanently banned :-P
This idea is sound, however eventually everything playable will get banned.
Not true. Permabanning cards one at a time means that the format will be constantly changing. There will always be cards to ban; they just won't be the same ones over and over.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
I'm protesting round 3. I submitted a deck to round 2 and it was not included. I submitted it a week ago.

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
Banning a card because too many people choose it each weak is ridiculous. No one in the history of this format has played a Black Lotus. Just try to absorb that one.
You are banning a card that has never been played.
Part of the skill of this format is choosing the correct card to ban. No offense, but this just means that players that are banning it are choosing a poor card. You shouldn't ban a card to help people make smart choices. They should have to learn to not waste their ban themselves.

With 5CB not getting stagnant why would 7CB which has more options stop changing? I realize its only my opinion, but frankly I think permabans just ruin this format.

First of all, the only reason that Lotus has never been played is because it was permabanned. I am certain that someone would have tried to play it in the second round just to see if he could get away with it, if it hadn't been banned (because that was my plan, though I doubt I would have been the only one).
Second of all, who really wants to waste their ban on cards like that? Even if you do manage to get someone with it occasionally, they will have had a backup plan. You want to be banning the cards that are key to people's strategy. And yet, you can't let people get away with playing Lotus. It's more fun and more strategic to try to anticipate people's innovations than to let random luck determine who wins rounds, based on which common archetypes got the most screwed. If you want that, you should go play RAF.
Last of all, 5CB is pretty stale. It has a metagame, but new innovations are few and far between, except during special weeks. 7CB is an opportunity to start something completely different, and much more interesting. It is definitely true that, in the absence of continuous permabannings, 7CB will probably have a balanced metagame. But the point is not to make it as similar as possible to 5CB, is it?
Maybe every once in a while, a card will get banned and people will say, "Oh wow, how did that get so many points (or whatever)?" And then they'll move on. It won't have been unbalanced, it's even possible that it won't have been used to its fullest potential. But so what? That's the total extent of the negative consequences. The game goes on, and new cards will become playable. That's what makes it fun. We don't need to explore every nook and cranny of usefulness for every card in order to have a defined metagame.

But the lotus is an active threat, while Force and Unmask are disruption. If you have a deck that gets especially wrecked by Unmask or Force you can ban one. And with Unmask and Force they may well have committed an extra card in order to get through your defences.
I was hoping Monday like last time since I havn't submitted yet. :-(
