This is the results for round 2.14 and the start for round 2.15.
Round 2.14
This round was Secret Santa.
You gave someone a third card, and someone gave you one as well. Your gift was given to the player preceeding you. Likewise, you were given the gift of the player succeeding you.
Entries
01 Feyd_Ruin :: Omnoth, Locus of the Treetop Treetop Village / Omnath, Locus of Mana / Exploration After legitamately competing all last month, I decided to play an easy, fun deck this time. Hindsight: Give Omnath trample, and he wins a lot more. My gift was nice, speeding me up a full kill-turn. Thanx Reyemile!
02 Reyemile :: This is my deck, and I'm sticking to it! Volrath's Stronghold / Necrotic Sliver / Plaguebearer Although your gift was redundant - redundancy can come in very handy. It doubles the likely hood that you a removal/threat sticks.
03 Draco9 :: I wish they'd have made a Poxbearer Exploration / Plaguebearer / Augur of Skulls A fast plague bearer was nice. Augur was also a great gift. Not only did it stop the noncreature threats (Beacon), he regenerates, which makes him a nice wall in a land of little trample.
04 Error1 :: Lagniappe Strip Mine / Mayor of Avabruck / Exploration Your gift was, unfortunately, slightly useless to your deck. It made me question whether or not to adjust the player list so that everyone got something they liked - but I decided it was best to keep it the way it was, otherwise the fairness is taken out. Strip Mine was interesting, as it increased the likely hood of Mayor flipping before removal.
05 Shogun17 :: I'm playing a Hag for the fun of it! Hag Hedge-Mage / Syncopate / Maelstrom Pulse The hag was random. So random, I wonder if there was a specific matchup you were intending to defeat. Your Maelstrom Pulse gift worked well for you. You owe Tane a thanx.
07 WhammWhamme :: Counter-Control Negate / Beacon of Destruction / Dissipate There were, unfortunately, not many noncreature threats this round. Dissipate was nice back-up counter.
08 Antonia :: Illegal.dec Inkmoth Nexus / Pendelhaven / Augur of Skulls You had very nice luck with a first turn Augur gift. That alone gave you quite a few matches.
09 Personman :: Beats! Beats! Beats! Purity / Figure of Destiny / Mayor of Avabruck A triple threat, with a nice curve. The Mayor gift made the aggro go all out, even if the necessary green slowed figure down a little - but then again, you wouldn't play a forest unless you needed the mayor.
10 Parsley :: Randomly Good Mayor of Avabruck / Dissipate / Pithing Needle Mayor with dissipate was nice. If you were gifted an Island by some miracle, I would have fell over laughing. The needle still worked well, with Augurs, Necrotic Slivers, Levelers, lands, etc. It was a well thought out and useful gift.
11 Dragondart :: Never Goina Give You Up Anurid Scavenger / Orim's Chant / Tomb of Urami Scavenger-Chant was good, but Tomb actually worked extremely well. Not only did it put the brakes on a turn faster, it gave you a second threat when Anurid wasn't enough.
12 Mogg :: Legal Karn Gaea's Touch / Karn Liberated / Necrotic Sliver Karn isn't quite as dominating with three cards running amok, but your gifted necrotic backup was nice. You could 3rd turn Karn->Exile, and then 4th turn Necrotic->Vindicate plus another Karn exile, and still be able to build up karn for the reset.
13 benbuzz790 :: Single Black Gatekeeper Seeking Interrogator Cabal interrogator / Gatekeeper of Malakir / Leyline of Singularity Interrogator was interesting. I'm not sure why you chose him over Augur though. Augur is a good wall even if their hand is empty, gets both cards, and doesn't require additional mana to use. Your leyline was a sweet gift, gathering you plenty of wins against the mayor-matchup.
14 Catmurderer :: Sneak Attack / Emrakul, the Aeon's Torn / Dissipate You did well against anything that didn't have a fast clock, but were too slow against those who did. When I got your entry, I had hoped you would receive an exploration or anything to push it a couple turns faster. Show and Tell would have worked out better this round.
15 VikingMetal4L :: Santa Loves Me Volrath's Stronghold / Necrotic Sliver / Mayor of Avabruck A perfect gift. First turn Mayor for an aggressive clock, repeated destruction, and even repeated mayor if needed. Worked out perfectly.
16 fnord :: Sceptorcate Isochron Scepter / Lightning Helix / Vindicate Again, a very complimentary gift. The vindicate made sure you anything that a helix couldn't get would still be short-lived.
17 Thundersnow :: Land Fall Oboro, palace in the clouds / Plated Geopede / Exploration Geopede became a huge threat with exploration, swinging as a 7/7 by second turn, and killing fourth. Unfortunately, it was all-in, which died to removal and mayor. If only he had trample…
Next Round will be Normal Round.
Entries are due Saturday Night at Midnight.
Normal Round
Next week is a normal week.
The third week of January we will be doing Dragondart's special. (Each player gets a Leyline to start with.)
The fourth week of January we will do our "Niche" round.

Basic 2CB Rules
0. Overview
Two Card Blind (2CB) is a weekly Magic tournament, run entirely within this forum. To compete, players submit two-card decks which are played against each other. Scoring assumes optimal play, without randomness or concealed information.
1. Game Rules
1.1. Except for the changes described in these rules, games follow the rules of Magic.
1.2. Players' decks contain exactly two cards, which begin the game in hand. Players do not mulligan or sideboard.
1.3. Players' libraries begin the game empty. A player does not lose the game as a result of being unable to draw a card.
1.4. Each player owns an infinite supply of Basic Lands of each type outside the game. These may be played as if they were in his or her hand.
1.4b. You may play only one land from your hand in addition to only one land from outside the game during your turn; however, continuous effects may increase these numbers (if a card states that you may play an additional land this turn, you may play one from your hand, one from outside the game and one from either your hand or outside the game).
1.4b'. Playing lands from your hand will make you a better person. Officially.
1.5. A random effect produces the result that least benefits the owner of the source of the effect.
1.6. Each player plays two games (one match) against each other player.
1.6a. Each player is the starting player once per match.
1.6b. If no player can win, the game is a draw.
1.6c. Games are played with perfect information.
1.6d. Games are played optimally; players attempt to win, draw, or extend the game – in that order.
2. Tournament Rules
2.1. Players submit their decks to the 2CB moderator.
2.1a. A player may submit multiple decks, but only the most recent deck is counted.
2.1b. An illegal deck is not counted. The removal of an illegal deck does not affect deck distribution (see Rule 2.4).
2.1b'. If an illegal deck is submitted, the deck may be editted at the moderator's discretion (i.e.: If a deck is submitted with a banned card, but can still be considered a legal deck--such as being able to win against a goldfish deck--without that card, the deck may still be included, but without the offending card).
2.1c. The moderator determines the result of each match. Players may challenge results, but not after the results of the first round belonging to a new month have been posted (see Rule 2.5a).
2.1d. A player may name his or her deck. If a player does not, the moderator may name it.
2.2. Decks are subject to some restrictions.
2.2a. A player may not submit a deck that can – against any deck – force any card in an opponent's hand to change zones or Win the Game before an opponent's second turn.
2.2b. A player may not submit a deck that can't win both games of a match against at least one deck satisfying 2.2a and 2.2c.
2.2c. A deck may include any number of any card legal in Vintage (Type 1), with the exception of the following banned cards:
2.2d. A deck may include any number of any card that will become legal in Vintage upon release of a set that has been revealed fully and officially since the start of the round.
2.3. Points determine tournament standings.
2.3a. Players are ranked – first to last – in order of decreasing number of points.
2.3b. For each match, a player earns 3 points per game win and 1 point per drawn game. However, a player earns only 2 points for a split match (one win, one loss).
2.3c. A table of match results is posted each round. Its rows represent players and its columns represent opponents. Match results reflect the combined result of both games played in a match; 6 is a match win, 2 a drawn or split game, and 1 or 4 a draw/loss or draw/win respectively. A player's points are listed at the end of his or her row.
2.5. The player with the most PotM points over the course of a month is the Player of the Month.
2.5a. A month includes all rounds for which decks are due during that month.
2.5b. Each round, each player receives PotM points equal to their average match result for that round, rounded down to 1 decimal place. For example, a player scoring 6-6-6-6-X-0-0-0 in a round with 8 decks receives 3.4 points (24/7).
2.5c. Each week, .5 PotM points will be given to the deck deemed most creative and original.
2.5d. Each week, after the grid is posted, the first player to able to post a deck that can successfully go 6-0 over every deck in the grid will also receive 1 PotM point.
Make sure that you give only the best of gifts this holiday season, because what you give directly affect you as well. At the end of the round, you will gain bonus points equal to 1/3rd (rounded up) of your gift's recipient's score, since you helped build a third of his or her deck. Round rankings and PotM will be calculated with this bonus (so you can actually get over 6 potm points this week).
I don't think you should be weighting this week over the others. Wouldn't it make sense to calculate each person's score as
2/3 * your score + 1/3 * your gift recipient's score
Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.
Nice Two Card Blind Banner, though I have an issue with it. I rather it depict useless cards so it doesn't inadvertently influence a player's deckbuilding decisions.
Do I get to learn who I can curse for my crappy gift? Or who I gave my super useful gift to? Seems I was the only one who got something completely useless:(
Gifts were given in submission order.
Your gift was given to the player preceding you.
Your Secret Santa was the player succeeding you.
A couple of players got not-so-lucky gifts.
No one gave a "bad gift" - sometimes they just didn't fit with the deck.
I wanted to rearrange, but I figured it wouldn't be right.
Specifically, I wanted to shuffle Catmurderer, WhammeWhamme, Reyemile, and Error1's gifts.
Since it's not calculated, this could technically still be done, but I believe some people would end up upset, since it wasn't randomly chosen.
Someone could easily say "But I'd have won if you gave me gift X"
It worked well 90% of the time.
I apologize for the 10%.
I guess every once in a while, you're the bad luck guy who get's Aunt Petunia's fruit cake for a present
Edit:
We could redux this, where players who want to participate say so.
Then gifts are given.
Then you submit your deck, having full knowledge of your present?
We could do this this coming round, even.
I decided on a normal week because I didn't have anything pre-planned.
I could easily shuffle the "presents" around, and private message each person with their gift.
Then we build.
Any new comers will get a randomly selected present to build from.
Each submitted deck had to follow the normal rules. So did every gift. But if the combination of a deck with a gift created a deck that would usually be illegal (like turn 1 Augur), that was deemed okay.
I guess it's fine for now, but in the future, please never do anything based on submission order. It is extremely nonrandom, not to mention abusable. People have patterns in when they submit, and two people could very easily collude by submitting one after the other. Or I could even just post "Hey guys, I just submitted X / Y! Give me something good!" to the thread, and whoever saw it first could score some extra points for me and emself.
I always hated when 5CB heats were done in submission order, it meant I always ended up paired with the other people who always submitted late

Thing is, Feyd didn't reveal the method of gift selection until now. In the 2CB 2.13 thread, he said it was "semirandom".
As for the Hag, I thought its versatility would work well with whatever I received (and it did). However, having only a 2/2 as a threat, and no way to protect it from anything costing less than 4 cost me.
Thing is, Feyd didn't reveal the method of gift selection until now. In the 2CB 2.13 thread, he said it was "semirandom".
Hence "I guess it's fine for now"
But in the future, we might guess that this is how e'd do it again, even if e doesn't specify that time either. So in the future, things like this should be truly random.
Here's the first bit of my results:

09 Personman :: Beats! Beats! Beats!
Purity / Figure of Destiny / Mayor of Avabruck
vs 01 Feyd_Ruin - 6-0
Feyd can't stop Mayor from turning on by turn 3, at which point it makes a blocker for Omnath every turn. Meanwhile, I take 3 damage beats until I play Purity, which is less than 7 turns after I start taking damage. Then I take no damage until I level Figure and win in the air. I can do way better than this, but this is a nice clean proof.
vs 02 Reyemille - 0-6
T1: Figure
T1: Bearer
T2: Mayor, swing with figure (19)
T2: Necrotic
T3: 3 lands, pump, Swing with both (15)
T3: Mayor flips. Sac necrotic at Mayor.
T4: 4 lands. Pump figure. Swing. (11)
T4: Kill figure with Bearer. Put Necrotic on top.
T5: 5 lands.
T5: Sac necrotic at a land. Put it on top.
T6: 5 lands.
T6: Cast necrotic, sac it at a land.
T7: 5 lands.
T7: Put necrotic on top, cast it.
T8: 6 lands, Purity.
T8: Can now fully cycle Necrotic at Purity every turn. Meanwhile, win by swinging with Bearer.
vs 03 Draco9 - 0-6
T1 - Figure
T1 - Exploration
T2 - Mayor, swing (19)
T2 - Augur and Bearer
T3 - Pump, Swing with both (15)
T3 - Mayor flips. Kill it with bearer. Swing with both (18)
T4: Pump figure, swing (11)
T4: Kill figure. Swing with both (16)
T5:
T5: Swing with both (14)
T6: Purity
T6: 12 isn't quite enough right now, but can still take one hit from purity, and after that it dies every turn.
vs 04 Error1 - 6-0
His Mayor is faster than mine, but I have an extra blocker in level 2 figure, and then later I win in the air.
vs 05 Shogun17 - 0-6
E has three answers for my three questions. The fact that Syncopate exiles Purity is really sad for me. And after he answers my questions, he's left with a Hedge-Mage I can't deal with.
vs 05 Shogun17 - 0-6
E has three answers for my three questions. The fact that Syncopate exiles Purity is really sad for me. And after he answers my questions, he's left with a Hedge-Mage I can't deal with.
I had it scored 6-0 in your favor, but after thinking about it a bit more, I think it might be a 4-1 in my favor.
If you go first, you can flip the mayor and produce a wolf before I can do anything. I kill the mayor on turn 3 leaving you with a figure and a 2/2 wolf. On turn 4, I cast my Hag and put my pulse on top. On turn 5, I pulse your figure. Then I can keep my mana open to counter purity. This leaves my 2/2 up against your 2/2 wolf.
When I go first, it's mostly the same except I can kill the mayor before it transforms and makes a wolf, so i end up winning that one.
Interrogator was interesting. I'm not sure why you chose him over Augur though. Augur is a good wall even if their hand is empty, gets both cards, and doesn't require additional mana to use. Your leyline was a sweet gift, gathering you plenty of wins against the mayor-matchup.
I went with Interrogator because he sticks around after making them discard, so If I catch a person with, say, a 3 drop and a 4 drop he can just win by himself. He goes well with gatekeeper because I can force them to play their threat or have it discarded. Then gatekeeper can remove the threat. This came into play a few times, including against you!
My deck was really weak to mayor, so I'm glad that I was gifted the leyline. Strip mine is a great choice Error1, I bet it sealed a lot of matches. It's too bad you didn't get a second threat, I bet that would have sealed the deal.
Eventually two tokens will legendary rule themselves, and I can get mayor with gatekeeper.
I looked at Hag too! It seems like a decent card, taking out half their deck, or re buying one of your spells are both very useful. This was the first matchup where interrogator worked the way I wanted him to.
On the play, I sneak interrogator under Syncopate. I use his ability with X = 2, and you reveal syncopate and maelstrom pulse. You discard pulse. You buy it back on your turn with Hag (instead of making me discard leyline). On my turn I interrogate again and get rid of pulse. Then again and get rid of syncopate. I can cast gatekeeper to kill the hag. If instead you reveal syncopate and the hag, I make you discard the hag. When you pulse interrogator, I'll have enough mana to pay for syncopate when I cast gatekeeper for 2.
On the draw, I can't get interrogator under syncopate, so I wait. If you ever cast the hag, i can get interrogator down and we go through a similar exchange. So we both sit and do nothing forever.
On the play,
I can use interrogator to keep you from resolving karn. Then you can play the sliver (and have to sacrifice it) or hold it (and eventually discard it).
On the draw,
You resolve karn and +4 him, taking my leyline. I can't really do anything to stop karn at this point.
On the play,
I cast gatekeeper on turn 2 to start the beats. On turn 3 I cast interrogator. On turn 4 i activate interrogator with x = 3 to take sneak attack. We race and I get there first.
On the draw,
I cast interrogator on turn 2, and on turn 3 I activate it with x = 2... which is not enough to stop you from getting sneak attack down on turn 4. Sorcery speed discard makes me sad.

i only have a minute before work.
I'll update your lines and try to finish the calculations this afternoon.
a couple of quick points:
If we do this again, the "randomness" of the gifting will be completely different.
I did it this way so that I could theoretically calculate as the week went.
I just didn't have time to actually do that.
Omnath can't beat gatekeeper, and I can double block treetop village. If you hold omnath, I can make you discard it before I play gatekeeper.
2-2
On my 2nd turn, I have 5 open mana.
(Treetop, Forest->Exploration->Forest | Forest, Forest)
I cast Omnath and upwell two green.
If you cast gatekeeper at any point, I animate treefolk and sack him.
Then I have at least a 7/7 to swing with right away.
You die quickly, or you block a couple turns and still die.
This was the reasons I thought augur would be better.
You would Gatekeeper my Treetop, and wall Omnath with Augur's regeneration, forcing a tie.
Quite comically, I'd end up with a 100/100+ that kept stopping to see the itty bitty 1/1 skeleton guy to ask him what was up.
But I like that you went a route other then the often-used Augur.
-
The Land Rule vote tied out, so we're NOT changing it for now.
We should probably discuss it in thread though.
Find a nice compromise where both sides are at least semi-happy.
Ah. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I'm not sure how I missed that one...

The active player puts a basic land card of the type of his or her choice from outside the game into his or her hand.

I don't think you should be weighting this week over the others. Wouldn't it make sense to calculate each person's score as
2/3 * your score + 1/3 * your gift recipient's score
As you only built 2/3 of your own deck.
Practice for Khans of Tarkir Limited:
Draft: (#1) (#2) (#3) (#4) (#5)
My score = 2/3 me + 1/3 fnord's, but fnord's = 2/3 his + 1/3 feyd's, but feyd's = 2/3 his + 1/3 mine.
... So ...
My score = 2/3 me + (1/3)[(2/3) fnord + (1/3)[(2/3) Feyd + (1/3) My score]]
I guess it's not too hard to solve for my score, but my example is only a chain of three and doing this 12 times is a bit time consuming...
More facts of magic
No, iteration like that isn't appropriate here. There're only 2 levels here: deck score (calculated traditionally) and player score.
Let's say my deck gets 6 points and yours gets 3, with me using your card. So,
Deck scores:
fnord: 6
benbuzz709: 3
You deserve credit for 1/3 of my deck (2 points) and 2/3 of your own deck (2 points) for a final score of 4 points.
Practice for Khans of Tarkir Limited:
Draft: (#1) (#2) (#3) (#4) (#5)
Mix that with work, holidays, etc... I haven't had time to do the grid this week.
If anyone would be so willing to help calculate results, it would be greatly appreciated.

Cabal interrogator / Gatekeeper of Malakir / Leyline of Singularity
I went with Interrogator because he sticks around after making them discard, so If I catch a person with, say, a 3 drop and a 4 drop he can just win by himself. He goes well with gatekeeper because I can force them to play their threat or have it discarded. Then gatekeeper can remove the threat. This came into play a few times, including against you!
01 Feyd_Ruin :: Omnoth, Locus of the Treetop
Treetop Village / Omnath, Locus of Mana / Exploration
Omnath can't beat gatekeeper, and I can double block treetop village. If you hold omnath, I can make you discard it before I play gatekeeper.
2-2
02 Reyemile :: This is my deck, and I'm sticking to it!
Volrath's Stronghold / Necrotic Sliver / Plaguebearer
I can't beat the recurring removal.
0-6
03 Draco9 :: I wish they'd have made a Poxbearer
Exploration / Plaguebearer / Augur of Skulls
Plaguebearer can't kill my guys, I can't beat through Augur.
2-2
04 Error1 :: Lagniappe
Strip Mine / Mayor of Avabruck / Exploration
My deck was really weak to mayor, so I'm glad that I was gifted the leyline. Strip mine is a great choice Error1, I bet it sealed a lot of matches. It's too bad you didn't get a second threat, I bet that would have sealed the deal.
Eventually two tokens will legendary rule themselves, and I can get mayor with gatekeeper.
6-0
05 Shogun17 :: I'm playing a Hag for the fun of it!
Hag Hedge-Mage / Syncopate / Maelstrom Pulse
4-1
06 Tane :: W/B Weenie
Mother of Runes / Student of Warfare / Vindicate
*crush* -- the sound of your deck beating mine.
0-6
07 WhammWhamme :: Counter-Control
Negate / Beacon of Destruction / Dissipate
Interrogator does his thing.
6-0
08 Antonia :: Illegal.dec
Inkmoth Nexus / Pendelhaven / Augur of Skulls
I can't beat inkmoth + pendelhaven anyway. Augur is just icing.
0-6
09 Personman :: Beats! Beats! Beats!
Purity / Figure of Destiny / Mayor of Avabruck
Well, I can't ever beat purity. Nice deck, even without mayor.
0-6
10 Parsley :: Randomly Good
Mayor of Avabruck / Dissipate / Pithing Needle
You play T1 pithing needle, and destroy my plan.
0-6
11 Dragondart :: Never Goina Give You Up
Anurid Scavenger / Orim's Chant / Tomb of Urami
I might be able to stop scavenger, but Tomb always comes back and kills me.
0-6
12 Mogg :: Legal Karn
Gaea's Touch / Karn Liberated / Necrotic Sliver
On the play,
I can use interrogator to keep you from resolving karn. Then you can play the sliver (and have to sacrifice it) or hold it (and eventually discard it).
On the draw,
You resolve karn and +4 him, taking my leyline. I can't really do anything to stop karn at this point.
2-2
14 Catmurderer ::
Sneak Attack / Emrakul, the Aeon's Torn / Dissipate
On the play,
I cast gatekeeper on turn 2 to start the beats. On turn 3 I cast interrogator. On turn 4 i activate interrogator with x = 3 to take sneak attack. We race and I get there first.
On the draw,
I cast interrogator on turn 2, and on turn 3 I activate it with x = 2... which is not enough to stop you from getting sneak attack down on turn 4. Sorcery speed discard makes me sad.
2-2
15 VikingMetal4L :: Santa Loves Me
Volrath's Stronghold / Necrotic Sliver / Mayor of Avabruck
I can't beat the recurring vindicate.
0-6
16 fnord :: Sceptorcate
Isochron Scepter / Lightning Helix / Vindicate
I still can't beat recurring spells.
0-6
17 Thundersnow :: Land Fall
Oboro, palace in the clouds / Plated Geopede / Exploration
Gatekeeper is good against single threat decks. It's cool how you got exploration for your landfall deck.
6-0

Ok, now everyone correct me.
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.

i think this is right
I'll update your lines and try to finish the calculations this afternoon.
a couple of quick points:
If we do this again, the "randomness" of the gifting will be completely different.
I did it this way so that I could theoretically calculate as the week went.
I just didn't have time to actually do that.
On my 2nd turn, I have 5 open mana.
(Treetop, Forest->Exploration->Forest | Forest, Forest)

The Land Rule vote tied out, so we're NOT changing it for now.
We should probably discuss it in thread though.
Find a nice compromise where both sides are at least semi-happy.
No longer staff here.

There is an extra step that occurs during the Beginning Phase, called the Exploration Step. The Exploration Step occurs after the Draw Step. (Effects that skip the draw step won't affect the exploration step.)
The Exploration Step
The active player puts a basic land card of the type of his or her choice from outside the game into his or her hand.
