There has been much discussion on the land rule, so let's put it to a vote.
The proposed changes:
Rules 1.4 a & b would change to:
Quote from Rules »
1.4 Players gain the "land rule" ability to allow them to cast their spells.
1.4a. If a player would draw a card while his or her library has no cards in it, that player instead puts a basic land card of the type of his or her choice from outside the game into his or her hand.
1.4b. Rule 1.4a does not apply if a replacement effect of a card owned by the affected player could be applied instead. Rule 1.4a is applied instead of any replacement effects of a card owned by an opponent that could be applied instead (effects that use the word "skip" are replacement effects).
1.4c. The starting player does not skip the draw step of his or her first turn.
Additionally, this change would allow the following ban list changes:
Probably more. Bazaar Trader could also donate a few things.
I figured it'd be easier then a huge ban list.
The land rule replacement effect doesn't have a controller/owner. If the triggers were favorable to the player, couldn't they stack the triggered effects to allow the land trigger to resolve first and essentially "ignore" Possessed Portal type effects?
I think that the proposed rule 1.4 is less intuitive than it could be. The rule should convey the following concept: Each player has a library containing infinite basic land cards of each type, in the order of his or her choice. While these cards are in a library, they can be drawn, but otherwise can't be affected.
By this concept, Words of Wilding should work. The first ability of Maralen of the Mornsong should work, though it should not cause problems. Using Stifle to prevent a player from drawing land should not work.
I suggest the following wording, which I would vote for:
"1.4a. If a player would draw a card while his or her library has no cards in it, that player insteads puts a basic land card of the type of his or her choice from outside the game into his or her hand.
1.4b. Rule 1.4a does not apply if a replacement effect of a card owned by the affected player could be applied instead. Rule 1.4a is applied instead of any replacement effects of a card owned by an opponent that could be applied instead (effects that use the word "skip" are replacement effects).
1.4c. The starting player does not skip the draw step of his or her first turn."
With this wording, Maralen would not need to be banned, but Laboratory Maniac would stay banned.
That works better.
Changed it above (minimal rewording for now).
(Maralen still gets the axe though. She's not a draw-replacement effect. She's a "can't" effect.)
If anyone wants to change their vote due to this adjustment, please post below.
As it stands now, it's tied up.
What would be perfect is:
You start the game with an infinite library of basic lands, ordered exactly how you need. You may reorder these lands at any time. They cannot be revealed, looked at, or moved to any zone except your hand. If you would shuffle cards into your library, instead put them on top of your library in the least beneficial order.
But that's kind of complicated sounding and begs for some random niche card to abuse.

Battle of Wits. Infinity is greater than 200, right?

'Events' can be replaced; 'effects' can't. Also, there's an extra 's' on 'instead' that should be removed.
A replacement effect usually has an owner. In this case, a replacement effect is generated by the game rules. Suppose that I own and control Thought Reflection. Which of these outcomes is possible:
a. During my draw step, I put two lands from outside the game into my hand.
b. During my draw step, I put one land from outside the game into my hand.

I like the changes proposed, but I am personally happy either way.
It's your choice, I'm just mod'ing.

Edit: How about making rule 1.4a into an emblem for each player? "Each player starts the game with an emblem that has 'blah blah blah'..." ?
weird special weeks mostly. Otherwise you can't really play them till turn three and it's pretty similar to third turn discard
It's not that much worse than Augur of Skulls is in the current environment, though. Cast spells fast or never cast them.
