1. knobbodi - Unbelievably Uncreative Update Shelldock Isle / Emrakul, the Aeons Torn / Oona's Prowler / Darkslick Shores/ Remand I didn't really feel like coming up with a brand new deck, so I just decided to make my previous deck's resilience be a little more proactive. Looks like it paid off, assuming I didn't make a mistake that would cost me 12 points this week like I did last week.
2. Draco9 - Spam Dat Spell Wheel of Sun and Moon / Pithing Needle / Lightning Bolt / Steam Vents / Mana Leak Your deck pooped on all the decks that ran inkmoth nexus, which was a very good thing to be able to do this week, and you had recurring removal and counterspells if you needed it. Sweet deck and nice finish!
3. XScorpion - Shattered Silence / Mind Shatter / Mana Leak / Drowned Catacomb / Inkmoth Nexus Mind Shatter was really powerful, but your deck tended to do far better when it was on the play, for obvious reasons. The fact that your win condition appeared to be the same one that every single other deck was using took away a bunch of your wins however.
4. WhammWhamme - Wasn'tthisbanned?.dec Inkmoth Nexus / Assault Strobe / Might of Old Krosa / Pact of Negation / Delay This was not the week to play this deck. Everyone was running either inkmoth nexus or a way to kill inkmoth nexus, pretty much. Funny enough, your choice of 2nd disruption spell differed from the other version of this deck, but you guys managed to still end up with the same score.
5. Heart of Draco - No to Whatever It Was You Were Going to Say Mana Leak / Mana Tithe / Nature's Claim / Dismember / Dryad Arbor You were one of the higher finishes, but your win condition was not the greatest, and your clock was very slow. Also one deck managed to make you use every single spell at your disposal, and still managed to beat you.
6. Feyd_Ruin - 0 Land Control Grixis Charm / Mental Misstep / Snapback / Vex / Ambush Viper Grixis charm was an awesome choice. The sheer number of options available to you definitely contributed to what wins you got. Your win condition wasn't super great and got killed a lot, but every time mental misstep was relevant it was devastating.
7. Antonia - 2nd turn kills of the many Teetering Peaks / Rafiq of the Many / Leyline of Lifeforce / Noble Hierarch / Inkmoth Nexus I like this take on the turn 2 inkmoth nexus kill a lot, but this was definitely not the week to be playing this deck. You finished better than the other two versions of this, however, mainly because you still had 2 potential win conditions once inkmoth nexus was gotten rid of. However, your reliance on noble hierarch and the fact that you didn't have any real disruption gave you several losses.
8. benbuzz790 - Iona, Shield of Everything One With Nothing / Iona, Shield of Emeria / Leyline of Anticipation / Unburial Rites / Mindbreak Trap You lost most of your games because if someone made you pay even 1 more mana for your one with nothing you couldn't cast unburial rites. I went through the list thinking that mindbreak trap was totally useless, until the very end where you got to use it twice. Turn 1 iona was very strong, but you were just so disruptable. Cool deck though!
9. Thundersnow - AGGRO! Goblin Guide / Glint Hawk / Diregraf Ghoul / Imaginary Pet / Memnite Flooding the board with creatures was a pretty neat idea. Unfortunately, most of the other decks tended to just outclass you, and having no disruption wasn't great. Also, if you had had just one more flying creature you would have picked up a few more wins against the inkmoth nexus decks.
10. Own3d - Pay 1 more.dec Inkmoth Nexus / Inkmoth Nexus / Leyline of Anticipation / Lodestone Golem / Thorn of Amethyst In a format where almost everyone was planning on spending the exact amount of mana they started with, making them pay 1 or even 2 more was pretty effective. Double inkmoth nexus was pretty nice too. Solid finish over all.
11. Error1 - Cybermoth Berserkers Inkmoth Nexus / Might of Old Krosa / Assault Strobe / Pact of Negation / Silence Not a whole lot to say here that I didn't say about WhammWhamme's deck. I was pretty amused though by the fact that the two different 2nd disruption spells you guys chose ended up netting you the same amount of points in the end.
12. Hinotama - Form of the Dragon Seething Song / Form of the Dragon / Leyline of Sanctity / Island / Spell Pierce Leyline of sanctity was mostly not relevant, and a decent amount of the time your opponents had the extra 2 to pay for spell pierce. The inkmoth combo decks were also a problem since inkmoth nexus flies. Still, turn 1 form of the dragon is bound to pick up a few wins.
Alright, so unless I made some grievous error (which I probably did, and will end up with me being 2nd to Heart of Draco = P), it looks like I'm the winner for this round! Sorry for the delays in posting this, but this weekend was pretty crazy! Hopefully I'll be able to keep my previous schedule of accepting decks until sunday and then calculating the results on monday from now on.
Also, since with all of these delays, Player of the Month doesn't really line up with the actual months. Would you guys rather I end this 'month' now, and have it only be due to 3 rounds, so that the months line up, or would you rather keep it how it is? Let me know!
I've also decided to keep blazing shoal on the banned list after this round. It pretty clearly demonstrated its dominance in the last few rounds before this, especially with the greater gargadon innovation. Next week is going to be a normal week, so we can give everyone a chance to come up with some new fast combo deck (or potentially a control deck with all the answers). Decks are going to be due by sunday, november 6th! And let me see some innovation guys! It makes my job that much more interesting.
Modern 5CB is identical to vintage 5CB, except for the following:
-The cardpool is limited to cards that have been printed since 8th edition and mirrodin (counting both of those), ie anything printed in the new card frame (but also including timeshifted cards, and not including cards printed in duel decks or the from the vault series)
-No one may submit a deck that can cause their opponent to move a card in their hand to a different zone before that player's first turn. That is, no turn 1 discard. Also, no one can submit a deck that can win on its first turn
-The banned list is:
Ghost Quarter
Meddling Mage
Vampire Hexmage
Chancellor of the Annex
Laboratory Maniac
Blazing Shoal
I strongly considered going Vex and Mental Misstep instead of Mana Leak and Mana Tithe...but then I didn't.
I think three is a little short for a month. I'd like 4, but that's just me. Besides, do people really want to dethrone me just by having a shorter month?
: P
Also:
Draco9 vs. Me.
There's no way for me to counter his bolt that stops my Arbor. There's no way for him to stop my Nature's Claim that kills his Wheel. Thus, we draw, unable to kill each other.
This is the most awesome-ist special week in the entire world! ! !
Damn, Remand was a good choice for a counterspell, since people were so reliant on the subsidized mana and couldn't pay the same colored mana cost twice in a row.
I like the variety of decks that showed up this week and last week.
This was a pretty sweet two weeks. I think I'm going to run two weeks of the really good special weeks from now on. Also everyone is free to post their own special week ideas if they want, to give whoever wins PotM ideas
I'm not quite sure but don't i win against Hinotama?
On the play I get to play my creatures and kill him with my flying inkmoth nexus on turn 2 before his upkeep and his form of the dragon does much?
On the draw
turn 1
Hinotama: Plays his form of the dragon.
Me: Play inkmoth nexus.
turn 2
Hinotama: form of dragon does 5 damage to me. On 15.
me: Play rafiq. Make inkmoth a creature. Play teetering peaks targeting the inkmoth. Swing with inkmoth. 8 poison to Hinotama.
turn 3
Hinotama: has to kill rafiq or get killed in my next turn.
me: make inkmoth a creature and swing. 9 poison to Hinotama.
turn 4
Hinotama: form of dragon does 5 damage to me. On 10.
me: make inkmoth a creature and swing for the win?
I knew ahead of time that "loses to counterspells".dec would be bad, but I just really liked that deck. I played One with nothing to awesome effect! It was the only card that works in that slot too! Lol, I'll do better next time.

Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.
Alright! I updated PotM, and I am currently the leader. However, I don't think I'm really qualified to win PotM since I'm running the game, but even if I win and I give it to second place, and second place ends up being Heart of Draco, it still counts as breaking his winning streak! Also, the race is close enough that someone else might pull ahead.
Also, benbuzz, I agree. Turn 1 iona is pretty sweet. It's just too bad you were so disruptable

Since you're the only one who responded, and you suggested running one more, and that's what I was leaning towards anyway, I figured I'd just go ahead and run one more.

I think Gemstone array isn't as bad. You need 4 mana (which is I guess 2 lands), but then have to wait more. Turn 3 infinite isn't really all that bad.
Another Leafcaller round would of course be stupid as crap. Perhaps just a standing rule that says you can't play non-land sources of mana? I dunno.

Pondering on Heart of (Me - 8) ideas, maybe a clause like "A player can't submit a deck that produces or more mana before an opponent's first turn." would work out instead of banning cards.

I'm not a fan of modern but seems like it will lead to some really broken and fun stuff
Heh, there are definitely other ways to do it. We're allowed to win on the first turn, right?
