3. Heart of Draco - BAN ME TOO.dec Chancellor of the Annex / Chrome Mox / Nezumi Shortfang / Ratchet Bomb / Swamp / SB: Hex Parasite I actually feel like this deck is at the level that I want this strategy to be at. I don't think turn 1 shortfang is brutal enough to cause chancellor to be banned, although this is still a really powerful deck.
X 1 2 3 4 5 6
1 X 6 3 0 6 6 20
2 0 X 2 6 6 3 16
3 3 2 X 6 6 3 18
4 6 0 0 X 6 6 18
5 0 0 0 0 X 3 2
6 0 3 3 0 3 X 6
I win this round. Congratulations to me I guess, haha.
Next week is going to be a normal week, since we haven't had one of those in a little while. Submissions are going to be due sunday august 28th at midnight eastern time, although late submissions will be accepted while I still haven't put the grid up yet.
Modern 5CB is identical to vintage 5CB, except for the following:
-The cardpool is limited to cards that have been printed since 8th edition and mirrodin (counting both of those), ie anything printed in the new card frame (but also including timeshifted cards, and not including cards printed in duel decks or the from the vault series)
-No one may submit a deck that can cause their opponent to move a card in their hand to a different zone before that player's first turn. That is, no turn 1 discard. Also, no one can submit a deck that can win on its first turn
-The banned list is:
Ghost Quarter
Meddling Mage (after this round)
Vampire Hexmage (after this round)
-Cards to be watched:
Chancellor of the Annex
Chrome Mox
Should go 6-0 against Karntron...he can't resolve Karn or Clockwork before Stuffy (because of chancellor), and I make him discard his 7 cost card. Stuffy loses to Stabwhisker.

An ability exists on the stack independently of its source. Removal of the source after that time won't affect the ability. Some abilities cause a source to do something rather than the ability. Any activated or triggered ability that references information about the source checks that information when the ability is put onto the stack. Otherwise, it will check that information when it resolves. If the source is no longer in the zone it's expected to be in, its last known information is used.
Clockwork dragon beats you, though. When he's on the play, it goes like this.
T1: Mine T1: Shortfang T2: Power plant T2: activate once, he discards karn, attack for 1 (20-19) T3: Tower, Clockwork Dragon. T3: Flip shortfang, attack for 3 (20-16) from here, he takes 3 from shortfang and then attacks you and activates for X = 2, then kills you with dragon
Clockwork dragon costs 7
He has to pay 1 or it gets countered
uh oh spaghettios
You're thinking of steel hellkite, aren't you?

And your Game 1 vs me, I can block Bloodghast all day as soon as I flip shortfang. You only win game 2 because of ratchet bomb.

I was definitely thinking of steel hellkite, which would have beat you. You're right, you beat him 6-0. That means Heart of Draco beats him too
Also, the way I calculated this round allowed for sideboarding each game. The player going first got the option to swap out a card from his sideboard with his maindeck, and then the player going second, knowing what the player going first was going to do, can do the same. So I get to have ratchet bomb vs you both games.
I really wanted to pull that stunt two weeks in a row.
Also, I find it weird that out of 6 decks (that number makes me sad), we had 2 Decks that were exactly identical except for a a different SB that negated each other, and 2 decks that were very similar, particularly in name.
Yeah, I thought that was pretty bizarre. The pairs were even listed in the order that I received them, so that was weird too. But as far as the names go, except for your deck, which you submitted a name, I named all of the submissions, so them having such similar names is not so odd.
So, this round I gave the bonus point towards Player of the Month to XScorpion, because besides mine, I liked his and Heart of Draco's decks the best. But I figured Heart of Draco doesn't need any help winning PotM this month, so the point goes to XScorpion.
Also, I hope we can get some more entries next week. 5 people plus me is not exactly optimal.
Yeah, I sent out a message to a bunch of people, but for some reason I didn't send it to you. I thought you had submitted a deck already I guess. Oh well, there's still next week (and the week after, and the one after that, etc. lol)
I'll start messaging you guys if I don't have a deck from you by about a day or so until the deadline if you guys want, as a little reminder.
Oboro, Palace in the Clouds / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Bloodghast / Sea's Claim / Distress / SB: Ratchet Bomb
Distress was relevant exactly zero times, but bloodghast was really good in a field full of discard, and sea's claim was as good as ever.
2. XScorpion - Shortfang Control
Swamp / Nezumi Shortfang / Chrome Mox / Chancellor of the Annex / Ratchet Bomb / SB: Mental Misstep
6 cards definitely means that the control decks are at an advantage, since they can run a wide variety of answers. Unfortunately, mental misstep was only relevant the once.
3. Heart of Draco - BAN ME TOO.dec
Chancellor of the Annex / Chrome Mox / Nezumi Shortfang / Ratchet Bomb / Swamp / SB: Hex Parasite
I actually feel like this deck is at the level that I want this strategy to be at. I don't think turn 1 shortfang is brutal enough to cause chancellor to be banned, although this is still a really powerful deck.
4. Hinotama - I can feel it coming in the AIR tonight
Rite of Flame / Rite of Flame / Rite of Flame / Form of the Dragon / Mountain / SB: Magus of the Moon
Form of the Dragon turn one was pretty powerful, and the people without answers to you didn't even have a chance
5. Thundersnow - KarnTron
Urza's Mine / Urza's Tower / Urza's Power Plant / Karn Liberated / Stuffy Doll / SB: Clockwork Dragon
A backup plan for when one of the three lands is disrupted in some way would probably have been better than 3 different threats.
6. Reyemile - KarnPost
Cloudpost / Cloudpost / Glimmerpost / Karn Liberated / Wurmcoil Engine / SB: Platinum Angel
The same goes for this version. Some sort of card that was castable with fewer mana would have been nice to have.
X 1 2 3 4 5 6
1 X 6 3 0 6 6 20
2 0 X 2 6 6 3 16
3 3 2 X 6 6 3 18
4 6 0 0 X 6 6 18
5 0 0 0 0 X 3 2
6 0 3 3 0 3 X 6
I win this round. Congratulations to me I guess, haha.
