1. knobbodi - Tossed Thallid and Scrambled Eggs Copperline Gorge / Gods' Eye, Gate to the Reikai / Thornscape Battlemage / Boom // Bust / Thallid This worked about as effectively as I figured it would. Thallid did a pretty decent amount of work this week, and everyone was playing lands to suspend their spells, so LD was pretty good. If not for meddling mage...
3. WhammWhamme - Tearing Aeons Cloudpost / Cloudpost/ Cloudpost / Cloudpost / Emrakul, the Aeons Torn No disruption or interaction with the opponent of any kind = not so good this week. Although, hardcasting emrakul is still pretty awesome
4. Due di Meno - Jhoira's HexDepths Dark Depths / Vampire Hexmage / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Jhoira's Timebug / Spread the Sickness Dark Depths is as good as ever, although this is the last week for it. Jhoira's Timebug and Spread the Sickness don't affect your opponents' suspended cards, but your combo won you a pretty decent amount of games on its own.
5. Heart of Draco - BAN ME.dec Island / Meddling Mage / Meddling Mage / Chrome Mox / Chancellor of the Annex Congratulations, you bastard... haha, it's actually pretty funny that the last week this is legal you happen to just X-0 the entire field. Oh well, I guess you can't do this starting next week, at least.
6. Reyemile - Meddling Control Meddling Mage / Echoing Truth / Deprive / Chrome Mox / Seachrome Coast Again, as with the last time you posted this deck, not having chancellor of the annex hurt you a lot, as the reason the meddling mage deck was successful was the one-two punch of chancellor and mage. I still like the fact that you have pretty interesting options.
7. Thundersnow - UG Control Breeding Pool / Nix / Quagnoth / Disrupting Shoal / Snapback Quagnoth was a pretty good answer to your opponents' casting nix, and shoal + one drop + snapback is still a great combo. However, you were just overpowered this week, and chancellor of the annex hurt you a lot.
8. Shogun17 - No-stick Isochron Scepter / Silence / Cloudpost / Cloudpost / Steel Overseer Perma-silence is pretty neat, but the fact that you can't get it off until turn 3 at the earliest meant that most of your games involve you playing steel overseer and hoping that it won you the game.
9. LSK - Whatever a porphyry is... Moltensteel Dragon / Silence / Porphyry Nodes / Nix / Hallowed Fountain Phyrexian mana was a pretty ingenious plan for this week, since you could suspend it without actually paying any mana. However, only having one land meant chancellor of the annex ran right over you.
Heart of Draco is the winner for this round with a ridiculous no-loss record! After this round, meddling mage and vampire hexmage are banned. Also, next round is sideboard week. When you submit a deck, you also submit a 6th card that counts as your sideboard. Before each match, you can replace one card with your sideboard card, as long as the swap leaves your deck legal. (You still have to be able to win the game against a goldfish, and you can't cause a card in an opponent's hand to change zones before that player's first turn.) The player who is going first sideboards first. That is, they make their decision, which is public information, and then the player on the draw makes their decision.
Player of the Month Standings: I will update these as soon as all results are finalized. I'm sure there are some errors in my calculations. (Although, chances are pretty good that HoD is winning this month so far)
Modern 5CB is identical to vintage 5CB, except for the following:
-The cardpool is limited to cards that have been printed since 8th edition and mirrodin (counting both of those), ie anything printed in the new card frame (but also including timeshifted cards, and not including cards printed in duel decks or the from the vault series)
-No one may submit a deck that can cause their opponent to move a card in their hand to a different zone before that player's first turn. That is, no turn 1 discard. And, I don't believe that it's possible, but if so, no one can submit a deck that can win on its first turn
-The banned list is:
Ghost Quarter
Meddling Mage (after this round)
Vampire Hexmage (after this round)
-Cards to be watched:
Chancellor of the Annex
Chrome Mox
Sorry this was kinda late. Next week's deadline is going to be sunday, august 21 at midnight eastern time. Although, if I haven't updated it yet, I'll still accept late entries.
In my matchup against 7 it's listed as 6-0 in 7's favor. It should be 6-0 in my favor instead.
He must use Shoal to counter my Isochron Scepter, otherwise, I can just Scepter/Silence on my turn to prevent him from being able to counter my Overseer. My Overseer outraces Quagnoth.
My only solace is the fact that I'm the one who suggested banning the Mage. I feel like this has been proven pretty distinctly...
Oh no! Without those cards what am I supposed to play?
I played HexDepths first week, Meddling/Annex week 2, Meddling/Progenitus Gold Week, and Meddling/Annex this week.
Now I'll just fade into obscurity...
Also, regarding SB week:
I think you should only be able to Sideboard on the draw, as that makes the number of chains to analyze halved and also you should ban Gemstone Caverns.

I think this one is due to the fact that you cannot stop me from playing quagnoth since I can
cast nix on the silence you would use to stop me from casting quagnoth then I can bounce the overseer on the turn quagnoth resolves to allow quagnoth to attack and reset overseer to a 1/1, and then you cannot get overseer to 5/5 before you have to block to live.
Thundersnow, you're totally right, about our game and your game with Shogun17. I for some reason thought that you needed to counter boom so you wouldn't be able to counter thallid. Both of our games ended up in a draw.
Heart of Draco, I don't feel like the extra calculating is going to be super difficult for me, and I wanted the sideboarded cards to actually be relevant, so I figured the best way to do that would be to have the sideboarded cards work on the play as well. And Gemstone Caverns seems fine to me. I can't see any decks that abuse it to any real degree to be worried about.
I'm going to wait a little bit before I update Player of the Month, in case there are any other corrections.
I added a rule to the special week to make it easier to calculate. The player going first sideboards first, so when you're on the draw you can counter-sideboard. That takes care of any standoffs that might take place

Except that I don't really need to race in the traditional sense. I can just keep on blocking until my Overseer is a 20/20 and you need to block it with Quagnoth or die. You need to attack with Quagnoth for 7 turns to kill me and I only need 5 turns after a reset to block your Quagnoth and live.
Yeah, adding 6 to your PotM when you were already in 2nd place probably solidified your victory, unless you tank the next two rounds. And even then, you'd probably be middle of the pack.
And I'm thinking the week after sideboard week is gonna be a normal week. We just banned two cards, so I feel that a week without a format might result in some interesting decks.
Since I didn't post this round until saturday, and didn't post the format for next week until a little later, I figured I'd make the deadline sunday at midnight.

2. XScorpion - Chancellor Control
Faerie Conclave / Calciform Pools / Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir / Ratchet Bomb / Chancellor of the Annex
Looks like this was not the week for this deck. Everybody had some sort of answer to chancellor/ratchet bomb, and teferi was never really helpful.
3. WhammWhamme - Tearing Aeons
Cloudpost / Cloudpost/ Cloudpost / Cloudpost / Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
No disruption or interaction with the opponent of any kind = not so good this week. Although, hardcasting emrakul is still pretty awesome
4. Due di Meno - Jhoira's HexDepths

10. Draco9 - Mono Green Control
Magus of the Vineyard / Magus of the Vineyard / Chancellor of the Tangle / Chancellor of the Tangle / Omnath, Locus of Mana
I really didn't expect this to do so well. Omnath is a pretty excellent threat. Congratulations, you get the innovation bonus this round! (+1 to your PotM score)

Yep, I guess I was mixing the two up. The extra size does make the difference. My bad.
