You may choose for any creature in your deck to begin the game on the battlefield. Any creature which does so loses all abilities for as long as it remains on the battlefield.
4 - shadowfenix Raze / Path to Exile / Gemstone Caverns / Mountain / Autochthon Wurm The big problem here is that you have a dead card on the play. Raze worked well in multiple matches, though I can't help but wonder if there wasn't a better card.
9 - BronYAur Inkwell Leviathan / Foil / Island / Nether Spirit / Maze of Ith While bateleur's deck solved a lot of problems by dodging them, you just ran a Foil into most of them - the only player to do so this round. Congratulations.
10 - Taodd The Rack / The Rack / Ensnaring Bridge / Mishra's Workshop / Etched Champion Relying on double Racks to win is doubtful, and Etched Champion did nothing because it couldn't attack while it's protection was active. Still, you dodged a lot of removal and problems with Ensnaring Bridge - great choice!
Five Card Blind (5CB) is a weekly Magic tournament, run entirely within this forum. To compete, players submit five-card decks which are played against each other. Scoring assumes optimal play, without randomness or concealed information.
1. Game Rules
1.1. Except for the changes described in these rules, games follow the rules of Magic.
1.2. Players' decks contain exactly five cards, which begin the game in hand. Players do not mulligan or sideboard.
1.3. Players' libraries begin the game empty. A player does not lose the game as a result of being unable to draw a card.
1.4. A random effect produces the result that least benefits the owner of the source of the effect.
1.5. Each player plays two games (one match) against each other player.
1.5a. Each player is the starting player once per match.
1.5b. If no player can win, the game is a draw.
1.5c. Games are played with perfect information.
1.5d. Games are played optimally; players attempt to win, draw, or extend the game – in that order.
2. Tournament Rules
2.1. Players submit their decks to the 5CB moderator.
2.1a. A player may submit multiple decks, but only the most recent deck is counted.
2.1b. An illegal deck is not counted. The removal of an illegal deck does not affect deck distribution (see Rule 2.4).
2.1c. The moderator determines the result of each match. Players may challenge results, but not after the results of the first round belonging to a new month have been posted (see Rule 2.5a).
2.2. Decks are subject to some restrictions.
2.2a. A player may not submit a deck that can – against any deck – win the game or force more than one card in an opponent's hand to change zones before an opponent's second turn.
2.2b. A player may not submit a deck that can't win both games of a match against at least one deck satisfying 2.2a and 2.2c.
2.2c. A deck may include any number of any card legal in Vintage (Type 1), with the exception of the following banned cards:
2.2d. A deck may include any number of any card that will become legal in Vintage upon release of a set that has been revealed fully and officially.
2.3. Points determine tournament standings.
2.3a. Players are ranked – first to last – in order of decreasing number of points.
2.3b. For each match, a player earns 3 points per game win and 1 point per drawn game. However, a player earns only 2 points for a split match (one win, one loss).
2.3c. A table of match results is posted each round. Its rows represent players and its columns represent opponents. Match results reflect the combined result of both games played in a match; 3 is a game win, 1 a drawn game, and 0 a game loss. 2 may be used instead of 3 to denote a split match. A player's points are listed at the end of his or her row.
2.4. In rounds of twenty or more players, players are divided randomly into equally-sized heats of n players, where n is the number of players divided by ten (rounded down).
For example, twenty-five players are divided into heats of twelve and thirteen.
2.4a. Except in the finals, a player only plays against players in his heat.
2.4b. The top four players of each heat advance to the finals, where they play again (with the same decks).
2.4c. Tiebreakers for advancement to the finals are as follows: number of matches in which a player wins both games, number of game wins, points scored against higher-scoring decks. If a tie is unresolved, the tied decks advance.
2.5. The player with the most POTM points over the course of a month is the Player of the Month.
2.5a. A month includes all rounds for which decks are due during that month.
2.5b. The top eight players – or more, if players are tied for the final spot – of rounds of less than twenty players, all players in rounds of eight or fewer players, and all players in the finals of rounds of twenty or more players earn POTM points according to their rank; The player with the highest score earns 8 POTM points, and each subsequent player earns one point less than the previous player, but can't earn less than 0 POTM points. Tied players earn equal points but are counted as separate players when calculating the points of other players.
Deck Submission Deadline:
Saturday, October 23rd, 8:00 pm GMT+2.
Submit your deck to Alpha Werewolf.
Please use this thread to discuss any aspect of 5CB. Also, consider a subscription to 5CB. Subscribed players who have not already submitted a deck receive a reminder PM about two days before deadline. PM bateleur, ced395, Mogg or Alpha Werewolf to subscribe.
One minor correction: I beat Tom on the play (Ghostway/Gargoyle locks out PTE and Akroma, and I can then double block an ability-free Akroma if it attacks, while pecking to death with the PTE Gargoyle. Karakas bouncing Akroma comes online too slow)
My etched champion can attack while its protection is active as long as I don't play ensnaring bridge because the champion counts itself as 1 of the 3 artifacts needed for metalcraft. Also it was kind of necessary so that the deck was legal and didn't just draw every game due to opponents not playing anything. I haven't looked at the matchups closely enough to know if it'd ever be the appropriate move to just play rack/rack then next turn champion though, so no idea if that effects the outcome of any games.

Thing is: if you don't play out your bridge, you'll be overrun by huge creatures. You have to play it, because Champion taps to attack, and therefore can't block forever.
The racks mean it CAN just sit and block forever. Really the entire point of the champion is to be able to force my opponent's hand so that the rest of my deck is live. Unfortunately I think it can make for some complicated and numerous lines of play lol.
disagreeing with several results here. then again, im usually wrong in my disagreements
vs Feyd_Ruin and Powerrox93
-karakas beats iona. hard.
vs Promatim
he can play meddling mage turn 1. if he names akroma i path it. if he names path i start putting storage counters on my land. i get to 8 counters turn 9, cast akroma turn 10. so id be at 2 on the draw. but thats game over. pro blue nullifies drake and i build up more storage counters (now that i have a blocker) until i can 1 hit k.o.

No, he bounces your Market turn 9 and wins easily.
In me vs Promatim I think he wins when he's on the play. I can't stop meddling mage naming the rack but he can't swing with mage if I have champion out and just plays drake taking champion then boomerangs the drake. I have to play champion otherwise mage can swing, bridge never stops champion or mage from swinging because the racks are stuck in hand. I still win on the play.
A couple of possible corrections (in a blatant attempt to share the win!):
9 - BronYAur
Inkwell Leviathan / Foil / Island / Nether Spirit / Maze of Ith
vs
1 - Draco9_1_1
The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Mishra's Workshop / Sunblast Angel / Mimic Vat
Listed: 6-0 Suggested: 4-1
Inkwell Leviathan (and optional Nether Spirit) dies to Tabernacle before Island can be played.
10 - Taodd
The Rack / The Rack / Ensnaring Bridge / Mishra's Workshop / Etched Champion
Listed: 6-0 Suggested: 4-1
On the play, Taodd plays Champion, then two Racks. If none of these is Foiled he takes 11 damage and then tries for Ensnaring Bridge. This must be Foiled at which point Taodd wins in three turns from Rack damage and swinging once, blocking Leviathan three times in the meantime. 11+2+2+2 is not a kill. If BronYAur foils anything else instead the Bridge resolves in time to prevent him winning and Rack damage eventually kills him. The draw can be achieved by keeping all cards in hand except Maze, which holds back Champion.

I'm still not 100% about one thing with how the games are played. Are creatures that start in play due to the special rules of the week able to swing on their controller's first turn? I'm under the impression they are since it's considered an illegal deck to have a creature with 10 or more power.
Whatever order is least likely to result in you winning.
This is essentially right, but the wording in unfortunate.
There is no "likely" in 5CB. The order to get is whatever order gives you the worst outcome. Note also that this assumes you are shuffling things into your library because of a shuffle instruction on a card in your deck. If you shuffle things into your library because of a card in the opponent's deck, you get the order that gives the best possible outcome.
(In both cases 5CB rule 1.4 is the reason.)

You may choose for any creature in your deck to begin the game on the battlefield. Any creature which does so loses all abilities for as long as it remains on the battlefield.
1 - Draco9_1_1
The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Mishra's Workshop / Sunblast Angel / Mimic Vat
I liked the concept, but Sunblast Angel is too small and the deck was too slow. Tabernacle was useful, but often just helped you eke out a draw.
2 - bmh
Dark Depths / Elixir of Immortality / The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Vampire Hexmage
Rerunning your previous deck? Considering that this deck scored well last time, I'd run something different or improve on it.
3 - WhammWhamme
Black Lotus / Ghostway / Voidstone Gargoyle / Voidstone Gargoyle / Lavaborn Muse
The combo only reliably works on the play, which is a problem, and Tabernacle screws you over.
4 - shadowfenix
Raze / Path to Exile / Gemstone Caverns / Mountain / Autochthon Wurm
The big problem here is that you have a dead card on the play. Raze worked well in multiple matches, though I can't help but wonder if there wasn't a better card.
5 - tomsloger
Mercadian Bazaar / Karakas / Akroma, Angel of Fury / Path to Exile / Path to Exile
Double Paths really worked well, but a better threat and maybe another support card instead of the Bazaar and Akroma would've improved your performance - too slow when it matters.
6 - bateleur
Mishra's Workshop / Sol Ring / Chalice of the Void / Ensnaring Bridge / Darksteel Reactor
A brilliant bit of metagaming that screws over creature removal, huge creatures and combos (when you're on that play, that is). Very impressive.
7 - Feyd_Ruin
Gemstone Caverns / Plains / Elvish Spirit Guide / Momentary Blink / Iona, Shield of Emeria
The better Iona deck, but it didn't quite cut it. It can't touch Ensnaring Bridge, for one.
8 - Promatim
Tundra / Mox Sapphire / Meddling Mage / Gilded Drake / Boomerang
The general power level of the deck seemed kinda low, though it did decently.
9 - BronYAur
Inkwell Leviathan / Foil / Island / Nether Spirit / Maze of Ith
While bateleur's deck solved a lot of problems by dodging them, you just ran a Foil into most of them - the only player to do so this round. Congratulations.
10 - Taodd
The Rack / The Rack / Ensnaring Bridge / Mishra's Workshop / Etched Champion
Relying on double Racks to win is doubtful, and Etched Champion did nothing because it couldn't attack while it's protection was active. Still, you dodged a lot of removal and problems with Ensnaring Bridge - great choice!
11 - Powerrox93
Iona, Shield of Emeria / Flicker / Black Lotus / Plains / Path to Exile
Iona doesn't work as well when the lock is at Sorcery-speed. Path was useful, though.

Thing is: if you don't play out your bridge, you'll be overrun by huge creatures. You have to play it, because Champion taps to attack, and therefore can't block forever.
Whamme: Accepted. I must've had Iona on my mind.
My blog.
vs Feyd_Ruin and Powerrox93
-karakas beats iona. hard.
vs Promatim
he can play meddling mage turn 1. if he names akroma i path it. if he names path i start putting storage counters on my land. i get to 8 counters turn 9, cast akroma turn 10. so id be at 2 on the draw. but thats game over. pro blue nullifies drake and i build up more storage counters (now that i have a blocker) until i can 1 hit k.o.
listed as 0, 2, and 0. should be 6's for all.
No, he bounces your Market turn 9 and wins easily.
The other two are accepted.
My blog.
9 - BronYAur
Inkwell Leviathan / Foil / Island / Nether Spirit / Maze of Ith
vs
1 - Draco9_1_1
The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Mishra's Workshop / Sunblast Angel / Mimic Vat
Listed: 6-0
Suggested: 4-1
Inkwell Leviathan (and optional Nether Spirit) dies to Tabernacle before Island can be played.
10 - Taodd
The Rack / The Rack / Ensnaring Bridge / Mishra's Workshop / Etched Champion
Listed: 6-0
Suggested: 4-1
On the play, Taodd plays Champion, then two Racks. If none of these is Foiled he takes 11 damage and then tries for Ensnaring Bridge. This must be Foiled at which point Taodd wins in three turns from Rack damage and swinging once, blocking Leviathan three times in the meantime. 11+2+2+2 is not a kill. If BronYAur foils anything else instead the Bridge resolves in time to prevent him winning and Rack damage eventually kills him. The draw can be achieved by keeping all cards in hand except Maze, which holds back Champion.
