This was an unusual round. The field was atypically split between players who had some idea what the format should look like and those who seemed surprised by it. However, whereas this might normally result in a lot of unsatisfying knife-at-a-gunfight matches, here it became quite interesting since some of the "bad" decks came well equipped for the metagame they faced.
Also exciting was that we had two new players this round both of whom did well, as you will see. This is particularly unusual for a Special round where there are no netdecks to copy.
Alpha Werewolf has kindly offered to moderate next week, so please submit your decks to him. Note that the format is not precisely the same as this week since I have elected to ban a card (given the underdeveloped metagame I think I could have left it alone, but decided to play it safe).

1 - bateleur - Karakas / Leyline of Singularity / Nether Spirit / The Rack / Blinkmoth Nexus I thought this deck was obvious, but apparently not. As a result I played the tricksy Nexus where I should have had the less metagamey Mishra's Factory. Still, can't complain!
6 - ~Tilde~ - Island / Foil / Misdirection / Daze / Pathrazer of Ulamog Credit due for being the only player to actually run a 9/X creature. Unfortunately, your plan to run no other threats and go all out ot defend it was ineffective.
8 - WhammWhamme - Avatar of Woe / Simian Spirit Guide / Otherworldly Journey / Plains / Gemstone Caverns Your one trick pony does its one trick extremely well! You had a significant impact on the results of the round as a consequence, but ultimately the deck just used too many cards doing its thing. Incidentally, in case you were wondering, Otherworldly Journey did indeed work out fractionally better than Momentary Blink - smart call!
9 - ced395 - Aether Tradewinds / Commandeer / Energy Field / Frost Titan / Saprazzan Cove This deck looked amazing to me at first glance, but its one serious drawback is that it cannot get Energy Field down in time to beat the fastest on-the-board kills. Maybe in a different metagame this deck would be great, but not here.
11 - bmh - Dark Depths / Elixir of Immortality / The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Vampire Hexmage It continues to amuse me that whenever you say you hate a format you do very well. Indeed, yours was the best deck against the other good decks, losing only to WhammWhamme's unexpected Gemstone Caverns. Tabernacle was great tech and Elixir might be in contention for Normal weeks after this performance.
Five Card Blind (5CB) is a weekly Magic tournament, run entirely within this forum. To compete, players submit five-card decks which are played against each other. Scoring assumes optimal play, without randomness or concealed information.
1. Game Rules
1.1. Except for the changes described in these rules, games follow the rules of Magic.
1.2. Players' decks contain exactly five cards, which begin the game in hand. Players do not mulligan or sideboard.
1.3. Players' libraries begin the game empty. A player does not lose the game as a result of being unable to draw a card.
1.4. A random effect produces the result that least benefits the owner of the source of the effect.
1.5. Each player plays two games (one match) against each other player.
1.5a. Each player is the starting player once per match.
1.5b. If no player can win, the game is a draw.
1.5c. Games are played with perfect information.
1.5d. Games are played optimally; players attempt to win, draw, or extend the game – in that order.
2. Tournament Rules
2.1. Players submit their decks to the 5CB moderator.
2.1a. A player may submit multiple decks, but only the most recent deck is counted.
2.1b. An illegal deck is not counted. The removal of an illegal deck does not affect deck distribution (see Rule 2.4).
2.1c. The moderator determines the result of each match. Players may challenge results, but not after the results of the first round belonging to a new month have been posted (see Rule 2.5a).
2.2. Decks are subject to some restrictions.
2.2a. A player may not submit a deck that can – against any deck – win the game or force more than one card in an opponent's hand to change zones before an opponent's second turn.
2.2b. A player may not submit a deck that can't win both games of a match against at least one deck satisfying 2.2a and 2.2c.
2.2c. A deck may include any number of any card legal in Vintage (Type 1), with the exception of the following banned cards:
2.2d. A deck may include any number of any card that will become legal in Vintage upon release of a set that has been revealed fully and officially.
2.3. Points determine tournament standings.
2.3a. Players are ranked – first to last – in order of decreasing number of points.
2.3b. For each match, a player earns 3 points per game win and 1 point per drawn game. However, a player earns only 2 points for a split match (one win, one loss).
2.3c. A table of match results is posted each round. Its rows represent players and its columns represent opponents. Match results reflect the combined result of both games played in a match; 3 is a game win, 1 a drawn game, and 0 a game loss. 2 may be used instead of 3 to denote a split match. A player's points are listed at the end of his or her row.
2.4. In rounds of twenty or more players, players are divided randomly into equally-sized heats of n players, where n is the number of players divided by ten (rounded down).
For example, twenty-five players are divided into heats of twelve and thirteen.
2.4a. Except in the finals, a player only plays against players in his heat.
2.4b. The top four players of each heat advance to the finals, where they play again (with the same decks).
2.4c. Tiebreakers for advancement to the finals are as follows: number of matches in which a player wins both games, number of game wins, points scored against higher-scoring decks. If a tie is unresolved, the tied decks advance.
2.5. The player with the most POTM points over the course of a month is the Player of the Month.
2.5a. A month includes all rounds for which decks are due during that month.
2.5b. The top eight players – or more, if players are tied for the final spot – of rounds of less than twenty players, all players in rounds of eight or fewer players, and all players in the finals of rounds of twenty or more players earn POTM points according to their rank; The player with the highest score earns 8 POTM points, and each subsequent player earns one point less than the previous player, but can't earn less than 0 POTM points. Tied players earn equal points but are counted as separate players when calculating the points of other players.

You may choose for any creature in your deck to begin the game on the battlefield. Any creature which does so loses all abilities for as long as it remains on the battlefield.
A couple of rules reminders:
1. Decks with creatures of 10 or more total power are illegal as a result of this special round effect.
2. If a creature leaves the battlefield, it regains its abilities upon doing so. If that creature later re-enters the battlefield, it retains its abilities.
Deck Submission Deadline:
Saturday, October 16th, 8:00 pm GMT+2.
Submit your deck to Alpha Werewolf.
Please use this thread to discuss any aspect of 5CB. Also, consider a subscription to 5CB. Subscribed players who have not already submitted a deck receive a reminder PM about two days before deadline. PM bateleur, ced395, Mogg or Alpha Werewolf to subscribe.

I'm looking at the Anaklumsos-Promatim match. Why is it 6-0?
It isn't - thanks for the correction!

1 - bateleur - Karakas / Leyline of Singularity / Nether Spirit / The Rack / Blinkmoth Nexus
I thought this deck was obvious, but apparently not. As a result I played the tricksy Nexus where I should have had the less metagamey Mishra's Factory. Still, can't complain!
2 - Draco9_1_1 - Mishra's Factory / The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Ulamog's Crusher / Reanimate
Tabernacle was excellent tech and Factory was a good call, but Crusher made it look like you'd never heard of Gatherer and Reanimate was questionable at best.
3 - Promatim - Sower of Temptation / Gatekeeper of Malakir / Flickerwisp / Black Lotus / Black Lotus
This deck comprehensively crushed other attempts at aggression, but was hopelessly lacking in defence. Overall a surprisingly good result!
4 - BronYAur - Familiar's Ruse / Path to Exile / Fountain of Cho / Black Lotus / Indomitable Ancients
Ancients did its job on defence, but its lack of power and the fact you had no secondary threat meant you could get actual wins. Also, Femiliar's Ruse was the wrong kind of cleverness and should just have been Counterspell or (better) Dissipate.
5 - Powerrox93 - Wurmcoil Engine / Remote Farm / Flicker / Path to Exile / Path to Exile
Two copies of Path caught many opponents off guard. Your deck's big weakness was that Remote Farm is too slow. Also, Wurmcoil Engine was never once better than Goblin Goon!
6 - ~Tilde~ - Island / Foil / Misdirection / Daze / Pathrazer of Ulamog
Credit due for being the only player to actually run a 9/X creature. Unfortunately, your plan to run no other threats and go all out ot defend it was ineffective.
7 - KiNGskruffi - Angel of Despair / Black Lotus / City of Traitors / Isochron Scepter / Momentary Blink
This was excellent when it worked, but having only one threat and being very vulnerable on the draw held you back a bit. Nonetheless, a very respectable debut result!
8 - WhammWhamme - Avatar of Woe / Simian Spirit Guide / Otherworldly Journey / Plains / Gemstone Caverns
Your one trick pony does its one trick extremely well! You had a significant impact on the results of the round as a consequence, but ultimately the deck just used too many cards doing its thing. Incidentally, in case you were wondering, Otherworldly Journey did indeed work out fractionally better than Momentary Blink - smart call!
9 - ced395 - Aether Tradewinds / Commandeer / Energy Field / Frost Titan / Saprazzan Cove
This deck looked amazing to me at first glance, but its one serious drawback is that it cannot get Energy Field down in time to beat the fastest on-the-board kills. Maybe in a different metagame this deck would be great, but not here.
10 - Anaklusmos - Inkwell Leviathan / Karakas / Path to Exile / Leyline of Singularity / Orim's Chant
Winning your first tournament is impressive enough, but the most astonishing thing is that you did it using only four cards - Orim's Chant was never useful! Congratulations!
11 - bmh - Dark Depths / Elixir of Immortality / The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Vampire Hexmage
It continues to amuse me that whenever you say you hate a format you do very well. Indeed, yours was the best deck against the other good decks, losing only to WhammWhamme's unexpected Gemstone Caverns. Tabernacle was great tech and Elixir might be in contention for Normal weeks after this performance.

Next Week
Format: Indigenous
You may choose for any creature in your deck to begin the game on the battlefield. Any creature which does so loses all abilities for as long as it remains on the battlefield.
Leyline of Singularity is banned this week.
