Two Card Blind (2CB) is a Magic tournament, run entirely within this forum. To compete, players submit two-card decks which are played against each other by the moderator. Scoring assumes optimal play, without randomness or concealed information.
1. Game Rules
1.1. Except for the changes described in these rules, games follow the Magic: The Gathering Comprehensive Rules for games between two players.
1.2. Players' decks contain exactly two cards, which begin the game in hand. Players do not mulligan or sideboard.
1.3. Players' libraries begin the game empty. A player does not lose the game as a result of being unable to draw a card.
1.4. A random effect produces a result that least benefits the owner of the source of the effect.
1.5 Whenever a player could play a Land card, that player may put a Basic Land card from outside the game onto the battlefield. (Basic Snow Lands are Basic.)
2. Tournament Rules
2.1. Players submit their decks to the 2CB moderator (Personman).
2.1a. The moderator informs players of mistakes in a timely manner. (Sometimes. Often I run kinda late. Be careful.)
2.1b. A player may submit multiple decks, but only the most recent as of the deadline is counted.
2.1c. If a player's final deck is illegal, their most recent legal deck is used. If no legal deck has been submitted, they do not participate.
2.2. A player may not submit a deck that can, against any deck, win the game or force one or more cards in an opponent's hand to change zones before an opponent's first turn, or force a specific card in an opponent's hand to change zones before an opponent's second turn. (Note that forcing your opponent to discard two cards is very likely to force a specific card their hand to change zones.)
2.3. A deck may include any number of any card legal in Vintage (Type 1).
2.4. Each player plays one match, consisting of two games, against each other player. Each player is the starting player once per match. Results assume optimal play and perfect information.
2.4a. If an effect causes the players to make simultaneous decisions for which perfect play is not deterministic, players make decisions that least benefit the owner of the effect.
2.4b. If no player can win, the game is a draw.
2.4c. A player that can't win or draw plays to extend the game.
2.5. Points determine tournament standings. Players are ranked, first to last, in order of decreasing number of points.
2.5a. For each match, a player earns 3 points per game win and 1 point per drawn game. Matches in which each player wins one game and loses one game are worth only 2 points per player, rather than 3.
2.5b. A table of match results is posted each round. Its rows represent players and its columns represent opponents. Match results reflect the combined result of both games played in a match. A player's total points are listed at the end of his or her row.
3. Banned List
3.1 The following cards are banned. Any deck that includes a card on this list is illegal.
* Fastbond
* Meddling Mage
* Arcane Denial
* Figure of Destiny
* Nezumi Shortfang
* The Rack
* Black Lotus
POTM:
Each month, the player with the highest combined score from the four rounds that month is designated Player of the Month. Here are the previous winners, in reverse chronological order:
Next week will be more of the same, Fast Forward Week, in which all cards with CMC <= 5 are banned, and you send in 5 basic lands along with your deck that will start in play.
Realm Razer's pretty good but there are definitely some answers. Cobra Trap I am an idiot and Nemesis Trap, for instance. I don't think it needs banning.
Deadline is back to Wednesday (a week from tomorrow), at 11:59 PM EST.
I don't know if nom is town or scum. But I'd like to point out this type of behavior is his standard modus operandi.
Court Mafia: Day 1, hatch plan to KILL EVERYONE ELSE IN A SINGLE NIGHT, when the plan only allows him to hit 11 random players, ATTEMPTS TO FIRE ANYHOW (Roleblocked).
In other words....Nom is an impulsive player who doesn't think about planning long-term or listening to others. I wouldn't be surprised if he was town. At all.
vs dread/spelljack 0-6. oh snap. well done.
vs spelljack/akroma 0-6 outraced. thought this was 1-4, but he gets enough to play face down with spelljack mana vs realm razer/confiscate x2 (listed 1-4) shoud be 3-3 on the play i can either time stop realm razer, or, if he doesnt cast it, force a discard with time stop mana open on turn 8
vs nirkana revenant/ beacon 3-3 on the play, time stop then dragon. or wait til both...
vs terra stomper/take possession 1-4 on the draw he outraces. on the play, whoever plays a spell loses so we dont.
vs emrakul x2 6-0
vs barren glory/gargadon 6-0 if he could cast barren glory and suspend gargadon turn 1, it would be different
vs bringer/realm razer 3-3
vs spire golem/time stop 1-4
vs jokulhaups/gargadon x2 3-3 see barren glory for on the play. on the draw, well...
vs beacon/ulamog 2-2 discard doesnt do much...i guess i can force two ties by just time stopping ulamog.
vs akroma/take possession 1-4 force the tie on the play
vs aboshan/valkyrie can the valkyrie gain control of the dragon if they trade? if so 2-2. otherwise 4-1. not sure how that works.
vs realm razer/myojin 3-3
1) play land and Bringer, five lands in play L=20/4
2) play land, 5 lands in play
3) make token, play land
4) play land, 6 lands in play
5) make token, t=2
6) play land, 7 lands in play
7) make token, t=3 play Realm Razer
8) attack he is forced to block so I get 6 tapped lands back, play land, 7 lands in play
9) make token, t=4, attack with three tokens, bringer, and razer for a total of 18 damage
10) play Myojin and kill all creatures
very close but I end up winning
2-2 Time StopSpire Golem on the play Spire Golem trades with razer and Myojin is stopped, on the draw the same strangely
4-1 JokulhaupsGreater Gargadon on the draw if he suspends his Gargadon first I play my Razer, he sacs land, Gargadon kills razer, Myojin blocks all day. if he does a turn 1 Jokulhaups then Gargadon comes down 6 turns later Razer chump blocks for a turn and Myojin wins
3-3 Beacon of ImmortalityUlamog, the Infinite Gyre edit: read the beacon wrong. Immortality out races me on the draw
1-4 Akroma, Angel of FuryTake Possession on the draw blocks with Akroma and ties it up, on the play he wins
3-3 Aboshan, Cephalid EmperorAdarkar Valkyrie on the draw he plays his Valkyrie first then his Legend, I destroy all creatures but he saves his Emperor and wins
Myojin didn't get me many points, looks like I would have done better with an anti Realm Razer card like exalted angel or Akroma, Angel of Fury
I clearly chose the wrong card to pair with Realm Razer (it should've been Exalted Angel, imo), but here we go:
Vs. Feyd_Ruin: On the play:
Me, T1 - Bringer of the Green Dawn
F_R, T1 - Nirkana Renevant
Me, T2 - Get a token, Realm Razer.
F_R, T2 - Swamp
Me, T3 - Another token.
F_R, T3 - Swamp
Me, T4 - Token number three.
F_R, T4 - Swamp
Me, T5 - Token four. Swing with three tokens and Bringer to do 9 damage, because Bringer's blocked.
F_R, T5 - Island
Me, T6 - Swing with four tokens and Realm Razer for lethal.
On the draw:
F_R, T1 - Nirkana Renevant, Island
Me, T1 - Realm Razer
...and I don't get to play Bringer of the Green Dawn until it's too late.
3-3.
Against ced395: I lose. 0-6.
Against tomsloger: Doesn't this deck violate a rule of 2CB? If Time Stop counters a spell, the deck will definitely force me to discard a specific card in my hand before my second turn. I'm not exactly sure how that rule works, to be fair.
Nom_anor: Loses when I get Realm Razer out first, wins otherwise. 3-3.
Paellin: Either of Realm Razer or Bringer of the Green Dawn outraces Spire Golem, though Spire Golem can hold Realm Razer off. Still, I can force the win - cast Realm Razer first. Either it's countered and I can freely play the Bringer, or it's not countered, and I can cast Bringer when we're both at five lands. 6-0.
Tilde, bmh: If I'm not mistaken, I get Bringer of the Green Dawn on-board in time to indefinitely chump block. On the play, that's trivial; on the draw, they have to wait a turn to play Jokulhaups to suspend the Gargadon. If they don't, Bringer gets online. Either way, I get the Bringer before they get multiple attacks in with the Gargadon. 6-0.
Thundersnow: On the play, I get him down to 4 before he starts doubling his life total, and quickly bring it down from there. On the draw, I'm not fast enough. 3-3.
Personman: I never stand a chance. 0-6.
Keifru: On the play - Realm Razer hits for 16 and I get Bringer out before you can do anything. You play either creature, and I get in for the last 4.
On the draw - Keifru plays Adakar Valkyrie. I play Bringer of the Green Dawn. Keifru plays Aboshan and attacks with the Valkyrie for 4. I make a token, play Realm Razer, and can't attack. Keifru attacks for 4 more. I make a token. Keifru attacks for 4 more, I make a token. Keifru attacks for 4, pretty much sealing my fate. 3-3.
Versus Error1 - Mirror match! Except I win, because I can play Bringer before he beats me down, which pretty much seals the match each time. 6-0.
____
Also, while Realm Razer has answers (morph creatures, Bringers, Nemesis Trap) I still think that it might be fun to try a week without it, just to see how the meta changes. We're only doing two weeks of this format, after all.
I think I get the most win on the play; lose on the draw matches.
Vs. Naphatali: (4-1)
On the play:
drop Barren Glory and win
On the draw:
Neither player can win.
T1: Him: land, go
Me: land, suspend.
T2: Him: land, go
Me: land, go (9GG, 7 land)
Him: Land, go
Me: land, (8GG, 8 land), barren glory(spelljacked), sac land for GG, swing.
Him: Akroma, go
Me: swing. He can go to 4, but he can't kill me next turn and will have to hold back and block. So it ends with him blocking GG, either now or next turn.
Feyd_Ruin (0-6)
I need the third turn I don't get.
ced (2-2)
He gets me to 1 life on the play, but since he has to take my BG to keep me from winning, our guys just trade.
tom (3-3)
He actually only wins on the play. I win when I'm on the play by suspending the GG on turn 1, rather than casting Barren Glory.
T1: Land, suspend GG.
Him: Land, go.
T2: (Time Stopped in upkeep. He could hold it as a counter to my BG, but it's just plain better for him to get me in the upkeep, since he can prevent me from playing a land and removing a counter from GG).
Him: Land, Dragon. I lose my Barren Glory.
T3: Play land (7 land, 8FF), go.
Him: attack for 5.
T4: Swing with GG.
Him: attack for 5(I'm at 10, he's at 12)
T5: Attack for 8(I'm at 10, he's at 4)
Him: Either attacks me to 5 then loses, or holds back to block, then loses the next turn.
On the play he's got me, though.
LSK(3-3)
I get him on the play. He gets me on the draw
WhammWhammee(3-3)
Same as hinotama. I can't stop him if he goes first.
Tilde(6-0)
On the play, I just Barren Glory and win.
On the draw, he has to Jokulhaups, giving me a 1-turn advantage. On my sixth turn, I play Barren Glory, then de-suspend GG and swing. On his turn, he then gets to de-suspend his on GG, but I'll kill him first in a race(since I got the first attack), and if he blocks, then Barren Glory kicks in.
bmh(6-0)
See Tilde
Personman(0-6)
He said that we tied both games, but he actually wins on both the play and draw.
When I'm on the play:
T1: Suspend GG, go.
Him: Morph Akroma, go.
T2: Barren Glory(7 land, 9 GG), go.
Him: Take Possesion on Barren Glory, swing with morph, go (7 land, Morph, I'm at 18 life)
T3: Unsuspend GG, swing(him at 12)
Him: Unmorph Akroma, pump to 8/6, swing(I'm at 10)
T4: Swing (him at 4)
Him: Pump to 12/6, kill me.
I think he missed the morphing akroma play, but it wins it for him(compare to vs. Naphtali, where he has keep mana open to spelljack my Barren Glory)
Keifru(6-0)
No disruption except a turn behind from him tapping my land.
Error1(3-3)
On the play, I barren glory and win. On the draw, I lose.
47 points total
I think RR is fine. More is good enough against it that it doesn't seem format warping.
If it weren't for morph, though, I would say ban it.
At all.
no the Myojin of Cleansing Fire beats the bringer on the play. It's a close match tho and you put me at 2 life, I worked it out on the previous page.
Looking at your analysis, you miss that I can attack with the Bringer at 6 lands with a token to block. I can do this because if you block with your Realm Razer or throw it into my tokens, I'll be able to play Realm Razer the same or next turn, so your blocking with yours doesn't deter me.
1-4 vs Barren Glory + Greater Gargadon
I agree with Nom_anor
3-3 vs Realm Razer + Bringer of the Green Dawn
On the Play: I Spelljack whatever he casts first and race. Or play Akroma, with mana for Spelljack and win if he stalls.
On the Draw: Lose - First turn Bringer is too much.
If they play the GG first, I hold off and either Spelljack the GG when it resolves, or Spelljack the Jokulhaups if they cast it before GG resolves and then use it to kill the GG when it does resolve, leaving me with Akroma in hand for the win. They can't just wait on me for the draw either as I can outrace with Akroma if he hits the table morphed first (keeping mana to Spelljack Jokulhaups). If I can win on the draw, then I can also win on the play
2-2 vs Beacon of Immortality + Ulamog, The Infinite Gyre
I hold the Spelljack for Ulamog, and Akroma can never cause enough damage to outrace endless Beacons. The Beacon player can lose when on the draw if they cast Beacon early for me to Spelljack, allowing Akroma in to beatdown before Ulamog can be played, but with optimum play its still a draw (at least as far as I can see)
6-0 vs Aboshan, Cephalid Emperor + Adarkar Valkyrie
On the draw
20 20 UUUWWW Valkyrie
20 20 UUURRR -
20 16 UUUWWWW attack(4)
20 16 UUURRRR
20 12 UUUWWWWW attack(4)
20 12 UUURRRRR Akroma
20 12 UUUWWWWWW Aboshan
8 12 UUURRRRRR pumpx6 attack(12) (can't be blocked or tapped due to prot blue & prot white)
My holes on the new sheet: 123456789012345678
4 4 0 0 x ? 3 6 ? ? 4 6 ? ? 6 6 ? 3
6 ced395 (Terra Stomper, Take Possession):
OTP: Revenant / Stomper. InfiTurn win.
OTD: Stomper / Island(6mana) , Attack (F15) / Island(7mana) , Attack (F10) / Swamp(8mana) : Infiturn to eventual Win
Neither game gives him time to steal Revenant, which superbigs stomper and then skull
6-0
9 Nom_Anor (Barren Glory, Greater Gargadon)
OTP: Revenant / Glory , Infiturn win
OTD: Glory / Revenant, Gargadon / Infiturn win
No time for him to get gargadon or glorywin.
6-0
10 LSK (Realm Razer, Bringer of the Green Dawn)
OTP1: Revenant / Bringer , Infiturn Win
OTP2: Revenant/ Razer, my hitter outraces. Can infiturn before bringer since i'm a land drop ahead (3 Swamps + 2 Island w/ rev).
OTD: Razer / -, Kills me before i get land 6
3-3
13 & 14 : ~Tilde~ & bmh (Jokulhaups, Greater Gargadon)
OTP1: - / SuspGarg , - / Haups-sack. I cant recover
OTP2: Revenant / Haups, Suspend Garg. Gargadon hits & kills before I hit 8mana.
OTD: Suspend / Revenant, Haups-sack. I can't recover
0-6
Going through these slowly, getting ready for my upcoming trip + work has been eating more of my time than anticipated. Will make a point of being done before I leave tonight though.
Naphtali: Agree on all counts.
Feyd_Ruin: Terra Stomper is an 8/8, not a 5/5, but it doesn't matter, you still win. Otherwise agree.

Guys Realm Razer didn't even win.

1. Game Rules

Man; and I thought nobody would expect my Barren Glory deck.
I thought of doing Barren Glory with Decree of Annihilation but I realized that it wasn't all that awesome.
Fattycakes Zombie of Clan Limited
Awesome!
RIP Krensae Fluidtail: Sleep well with the fish
vs dread/spelljack 0-6. oh snap. well done.
vs spelljack/akroma 0-6 outraced. thought this was 1-4, but he gets enough to play face down with spelljack mana
vs realm razer/confiscate x2 (listed 1-4) shoud be 3-3 on the play i can either time stop realm razer, or, if he doesnt cast it, force a discard with time stop mana open on turn 8
vs nirkana revenant/ beacon 3-3 on the play, time stop then dragon. or wait til both...
vs terra stomper/take possession 1-4 on the draw he outraces. on the play, whoever plays a spell loses so we dont.
vs emrakul x2 6-0
vs barren glory/gargadon 6-0 if he could cast barren glory and suspend gargadon turn 1, it would be different
vs bringer/realm razer 3-3
vs spire golem/time stop 1-4

vs realm razer/myojin 3-3
either 41 or 39.
3-3 Spelljack Dread, on the play I win, on the draw I loose
1-4 Spelljack Akroma, Angel of Fury He is forced to block with his morph on the draw, and wins on the play
3-3 x2Realm Razer Confiscate
3-3 Beacon of Tomorrows Nirkana Revenant on the play I get to remove all his lands but he has a better creature out.
3-3 Terra Stomper Take Possession Take Possession beats myojin
3-3 Time Stop Ebon Dragon on the draw he uses time stop to counter Realm Razer and then myojin is discarded
6-0 x2Beacon of Tomorrows Emrakul, The Aeons Torn far to slow for the format
3-3 Barren Glory Greater Gargadon on the draw he plays Barren Glory I get rid of his lands but die when he suspends Gargadon
3-3 Realm Razer Bringer of the Green Dawn On the play I play Realm Razer and get him to four life before he can play his bringer. Then if he attacks me with anything I win with Myojin because my lands untap first so it works out like this
2) play land, 5 lands in play
3) make token, play land
4) play land, 6 lands in play
5) make token, t=2
6) play land, 7 lands in play
7) make token, t=3 play Realm Razer

3-3 Beacon of Immortality Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre edit: read the beacon wrong. Immortality out races me on the draw
1-4 Akroma, Angel of Fury Take Possession on the draw blocks with Akroma and ties it up, on the play he wins
3-3 Aboshan, Cephalid Emperor Adarkar Valkyrie on the draw he plays his Valkyrie first then his Legend, I destroy all creatures but he saves his Emperor and wins
Myojin didn't get me many points, looks like I would have done better with an anti Realm Razer card like exalted angel or Akroma, Angel of Fury
RIP Krensae Fluidtail: Sleep well with the fish
Cobra Trap doesn't help vs Realm Razer and the problem is some relatively crappy single cards can counter a Realm Razer on the play but then your stuck playing crappy cards
Morphs do work well against the guy though

If it weren't for morph, though, I would say ban it.
no the Myojin of Cleansing Fire beats the bringer on the play.
I agree with Nom_anor
3-3 vs Realm Razer + Bringer of the Green Dawn
On the Draw: Lose - First turn Bringer is too much.
6-0 vs Jokulhaups + Greater Gargadon

14 11 GG resolves attack(9)
8 11 RRRRRR morph attack(6)
8 2 attack
! 2 RRRRRRR Pumpx7 attack(13)

Naphtali: Agree on all counts.
Feyd_Ruin: Terra Stomper is an 8/8, not a 5/5, but it doesn't matter, you still win. Otherwise agree.
I searched "stomper" and mistook Stomper Cub
