This week marks the start of the July POTM race, and it's a special week: At the start of the game, remove a card in your hand from the game. At the beginning of your draw step, add a copy of that card to your hand. Note: The starting player decides which card to remove first. Also, for this round rule 2.2. will only check a deck's legality for when that deck is playing first.
I'm not adding the special rules from last week, because that would just be too much to keep track of.
The rules have been updated to accommodate the heat system. The wording could still use some work, but it's functional. The heat system was originally explained here.
Deck comments will return next week; I just wanted to get the results up faster.
Five Card Blind (5CB) is a weekly Magic tournament, run entirely within this forum. To compete, players submit five-card decks which are played against each other. Scoring assumes optimal play, without randomness or concealed information.
1.2. Players' decks contain exactly five cards, which begin the game in hand. Players do not mulligan or sideboard.
1.3. Players' libraries begin the game empty. A player does not lose the game as a result of being unable to draw a card.
1.4. A random effect produces the result that least benefits the owner of the source of the effect.
2. Tournament Rules
2.1. Players submit their decks to the 5CB moderator (Mogg).
2.1a. The moderator acknowledges submissions and informs players of mistakes in a timely manner.
2.1b. A player may submit multiple decks, but only the most recent is counted.
2.1c. If a player's final deck is illegal, the moderator replaces cards in the deck with Library of Alexandria until the deck is made legal. Replacements are made such that the revised deck functions as closely as possible to the original.
2.2. A player may not submit a deck that can – against any deck – win the game or force more than one card in an opponent's hand to change zones before an opponent's second turn.
For example, Cabal Therapy + Swamp x4 is illegal because an opponent's deck may have duplicates of a card, but Cabal Therapy + Subterranean Hangar x4 is legal because Cabal Therapy can't be played until the third turn.
2.3. A deck may include any number of any card legal in Vintage (Type 1), with the exception of the following banned cards:
2.4. Each player plays one match, consisting of two games, against each other player. Each player is the starting player once per match. Results assume optimal play and perfect information.
2.4a. If no player can win, the game is a draw.
2.4b. A player that can't win or draw plays to extend the game.
2.5. Points determine tournament standings. Players are ranked, first to last, in order of decreasing number of points.
2.5a. For each match, a player earns 3 points per game win and 1 point per drawn game. However, a player that wins one game and loses the other earns only 2 points.
2.5b. A table of match results is posted each round. Its rows represent players and its columns represent opponents. Match results reflect the combined result of both games played in a match; 3 is a game win, 1 a drawn game, and 0 a game loss. A player's points are listed at the end of his or her row.
2.6. In rounds of twenty or more players, players are divided randomly into equally-sized heats of n players, where n is the number of players divided by ten (rounded down).
For example, twenty-five players are divided into heats of twelve and thirteen.
2.6a. A player only plays against players in his heat.
2.6b. The top four players of each heat advance to the finals, where they play again (with the same decks).
2.6c. Tiebreakers for heats are as follows: number of matches in which a player wins both games, number of game wins, points scored against higher-scoring decks. If a tie is unresolved, both tied decks advance.
2.7. The player with the most points over the course of a month becomes the Player of the Month.
2.7a. In rounds of fewer than twenty players, only the points of the top eight players are counted.
2.7a. If heats are used, only points earned in the finals are counted.
Format: Infinite Cards
At the start of the game, remove a card in your hand from the game. At the beginning of your draw step, add a copy of that card to your hand.
Note: The starting player decides which card to remove first. Also, for this round rule 2.2. will only check a deck's legality for when that deck is playing first.
Deck Submission Deadline:
Friday, July 3rd, 2:00 pm PST.
Please use this thread to discuss any aspect of 5CB. Also, consider a subscription to 5CB. Subscribed players who have not already submitted a deck receive a reminder PM about two days before deadline. PM me to subscribe.

You have this match as 6-0 in favor of Magus
It should be 4-1, as on the play I can suspend Ith turn 1. Ith can block Quagnoth if it attacks so he has to hold it back as a blocker making this a draw as neither of us can attack profitably.
Edit:Actually, I can also draw if he is on the play. I commandeer one of his lotuses, then he has to forgo casting blood moon. Ith still leads to a draw for this. So it should be 2-2.

Does the copy of the card function as a card in every aspect? If I copy a Darksteel Colossus, and it ends up in my graveyard, will it get shuffled into my library? Or will it cease to exist outside of the hand and/or in play (er...the battlefield)?
And by 'You choose the option that gives you the best result', do you mean that, when you run the gauntlet, the card that gives the best possible result for that particular game will be chosen?
If someone claims that they are an unlynchable, unkillable, octa-voter, with 4 daykills and 6 doc-protects, then technically lynching that person solely based on his claim would be gaming the mod, but I would be just fine doing that.
Mogg, my initial testing shows that you are completely crazy! This format is a nightmare to process. I've only been thinking about half a dozen decks and already my brain has been reduced to mush!
It's also a huge amount of fun.

It functions as a card in every respect. At the start of each game, you make the play that helps you most, just as in any other game situation.
Thanks. I came across the idea when I was looking at other CB forums. One forum has a game called 3cb: 2 + inf, where you have infinite copies of a third card in your library. I changed the rules some, because I didn't want to look for all the effects - like ripple - that make that version degenerate. Also, I like formats that tie in a way to help the second player.

You may want to stipulate that the player chooses which card to infinitize when they send in their deck. Otherwise, you're going to end up with decks with lines of play that make the worst Stax decks look like simplicity itself. Don't burn yourself out over a desire to make the metagame more open, when it makes your life this much more difficult.
Just a suggestion. *shrug*
EDIT: @dethwing, why would he? The regular rules of Magic apply where not specified, and they say playing first means no draw.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'

At least I refined my original idea, which included a Fatespinner effect (to interact with draw step). I've settled on a straight-forward deck, and now I'll start looking at submissions to see what calculation conundrums I've overlooked.
As a general note to players: suggestions are appreciated, but no changes will be made to the current round.
And to Madmanquail: that deck could win, but I don't think it would. And Darksteel Reactor is just better.
Also, for this round rule 2.2. will only check a deck's legality for when that deck is playing first.
If your deck is legal when you play first, then your deck is legal. For example, the deck Thoughtseize + Swamp x4 is legal. To get copies of Thoughtseize, you'd have to remove it from your hand, and wouldn't be able to play the first Thoughtseize until your second turn.
Another question. Is Niv's deck this round legal? It has the ability to play a turn 1 mindslaver. This allows it to win before turn two if the opponent is running channel as well (they can make them channel themselves to death on their first turn). No, wait, it runs hickory woodlot. If it could throw out a first turn mindslaver it would be, right?
Also, for this round, how do soldevi digger, wheel of sun and moon, conjurer's bauble and lich's mirror work?

you see the first submission included a filter land, rejected!

Consider the rule as follows:
"At the start of the game remove a card in your hand from the game. At the beginning of your draw step take a card you own from outside the game with the same name as that card and put it into your hand."
I'll probably update it to read that way next week. It's a bit less elegant, but avoids confusion regarding copies. Essentially, you are gaining a tangible card each turn, which can exist in any zone.

6 FuriouslySleepingIdea – Commandeer / Infiltrator il-Kor / Ith, High Arcanist / Misdirection / Mystic Gate
vs
8 Magus819 – Black Lotus / Black Lotus / Black Lotus / Blood Moon / Quagnoth
You have this match as 6-0 in favor of Magus
It should be 4-1, as on the play I can suspend Ith turn 1. Ith can block Quagnoth if it attacks so he has to hold it back as a blocker making this a draw as neither of us can attack profitably.
Edit:Actually, I can also draw if he is on the play. I commandeer one of his lotuses, then he has to forgo casting blood moon. Ith still leads to a draw for this. So it should be 2-2.
You choose the option that gives you the best result.
4 power isn't what it used to be. Fixed.

EDIT: Just read the special rules... is it just a bluff?

It functions as a card in every respect. At the start of each game, you make the play that helps you most, just as in any other game situation.
Thanks. I came across the idea when I was looking at other CB forums. One forum has a game called 3cb: 2 + inf, where you have infinite copies of a third card in your library. I changed the rules some, because I didn't want to look for all the effects - like ripple - that make that version degenerate. Also, I like formats that tie in a way to help the second player.
6-0 instead of 3-3 against Farik, and 4-1 instead of 6-0 against me. Net: 2 point gain.

Just a suggestion. *shrug*
EDIT: @dethwing, why would he? The regular rules of Magic apply where not specified, and they say playing first means no draw.

Uhh, is that decklist correct? How does it do anything? Sunken Ruins can't ever produce colored mana.
The format for that last week was that you could tap those lands for the coloured mana without paying the activation cost.

Yes. Except as noted in the regular and special game rules, games follow the rules of Magic.
If your deck is legal when you play first, then your deck is legal. For example, the deck Thoughtseize + Swamp x4 is legal. To get copies of Thoughtseize, you'd have to remove it from your hand, and wouldn't be able to play the first Thoughtseize until your second turn.

It would; it was. Ironically, the original deck (with Library replacing Mindslaver) might have performed better; the delay is significant.
