A lot of diversity this week, which makes me happy. Next week has normal format.
This week's format was Landline-Orrery:
"At the beginning of the game, each player may choose any number of land cards in his or her hand. These lands start the game in play ("comes into play" abilities don't trigger). Nonland cards have flash. In addtion to the regular banned list, the following cards are banned: Dark Depths, Flash, Lotus Vale, Scorched Ruins, Show and Tell, Venser, Shaper Savant."
Results
1 Mogg – Azorius Chancery / Balance / Greater Gargadon / Mountain / Riftwing Cloudskate I despise playing a card as narrow as Boseiju, but can occasionally justify it in an otherwise powerful deck. But, when I found a way to get counter-protection (even Daze-Foil) without it, and play Balance, I did.
Five Card Blind (5CB) is a weekly Magic tournament, run entirely within this forum. To compete, players submit five-card decks which are played against each other. Scoring assumes optimal play, with perfect information and no randomness.
1. Game Rules
1.1. With the following exceptions, games follow the Magic: The Gathering Comprehensive Rules.
1.2. Players' decks contain exactly five cards, which begin the game in hand. Players do not mulligan or sideboard.
1.3. Players' libraries begin the game empty. A player does not lose the game as a result of being unable to draw a card.
1.4. A random effect produces the result that least benefits the owner of the source of the effect.
1.5. A player may not make a play which would win the game, create an extra turn, or force a card in an opponent's hand to change zones during either player's first or second turn.
2. Tournament Rules
2.1. Players submit their decks to the 5CB moderator (Mogg).
20
2.1a. If a player submits multiple decks, then only the most recent submission is counted.
20
2.1b. If a player submits a deck that includes a banned card, then the banned card is replaced with Library of Alexandria.
2.2. Decks may include any number of any card legal in Vintage (Type 1), with the exception of the following banned cards:
2.3. Each player plays one match, consisting of two games, against each other player. Each player is the starting player once per match. Results assume perfect information and play.
2.4. Points determine tournament standings. Players are ranked, first to last, in order of decreasing number of points.
20
2.4a. For each match, a player earns: 3 points for two wins or a win and a draw, 1 point for two draws or a win and a loss, and 0 points for two losses or a draw and a loss.
20
2.4b. Tiebreakers are determined by number of games won, followed by number of games drawn.
20
2.4c. A table of match results is posted each round. Its rows represent players and its columns represent opponents. Match results show the combined result of both games played in a match; 3 signifies a game win, 1 a drawn game, and 0 a game loss. A player's points are listed at the end of his or her row.
2.5. The player with the most points over the course of a month becomes the Player of the Month.
Deck Submission Deadline:
Friday, April 24th, 2:00 pm PST.
Please use this thread to discuss any aspect of 5CB.
Also, consider a subscription to 5CB. PM me to express your interest, and I'll send you a weekly reminder (about two days before deadline) to submit a deck.
How don't I 3-3 Chimp and bat? They can't win if Glowrider's in play. Indeed, metagaming against Good Will Hunting was the only reason Glowrider was in the deck.
Furthermore, I 3-3 Ngollon, who can't play his guy while Blood Moon is in play.
I can tie with the Baboons deck... I just wait until he plays a threat, then go off enough times to kill the threat and drop him to 1 life. If the threat is Baboons destroying Izzet Boilerworks, Karakas can bounce Muse and kill him. If the threat is Baboons destroying Karakas, I can pay the 2 to attack if the Muse ever tries to attack (and Grapeshot ganks the Baboons). If the threat is the Muse then he's on 1 life and I have a flier in play...
Also, Glowrider is the only reason Xyre can beat me, dammit.
Edit:
Wait a moment.
To not lose, Xyre has to lead with Blood Moon then drop Glowrider. I respond to Blood Moon by playing Cloud of Faeries. If he plays Glowrider, Cloud can block it. If he plays Preacher, I can Grapeshot it. Draw.

With three Loti, they combo in response to Glowrider. Look at the following scenarios: Lotus on the stack, you play Glowrider. They play 2x Lotus, Will, Pack, win. Or you, could let one lotus resolve, and respond to the second one, same thing happens.
Against ngollon, Blood Moon never becomes relevant, since he only needs to tap his lands once, and can play Kodama at instant speed.

WhammWhamme:
Both of your corrections are correct.
Oh, I see, cards have flash. That's a rule I certainly overlooked. Kind of makes my entire deck useless.
6 Sajin vs 7 ngollon. I keep urami back to trade with kodama and beat face with netherspirit. This happens regardless of who plays first. is 4-1, should be 6-0?
6 Sajin vs 9 ced395 I can't attack aginst windborne true. But neither can he without losing that which holds me back once I get urami out. If he responds to a lake of the dead I use the other one. Is 0-6, should be 2-2?
@deck4: I thought decks that could win before opponents first main phase were prohibited? Correct me if I am wrong.
They changed the rules. Now you're not allowed to /actually kill them/ before the third turn, but you can submit a deck capable of killing them sooner.
Personally, I disapprove of that rule change, but *shrug* it happened and this deck is funny.

6 vs. 7 is slightly more complicated than your description: In order to win, you have to race with Urami, and Kodama gets to hit first because you have to play Spirit. Net result: ngollon gets you to 3, but you win. So, yes, 6-0.
6 vs. 9 was carelessness on my part. Sorry about that.

Results
1 Mogg – Azorius Chancery / Balance / Greater Gargadon / Mountain / Riftwing Cloudskate
I despise playing a card as narrow as Boseiju, but can occasionally justify it in an otherwise powerful deck. But, when I found a way to get counter-protection (even Daze-Foil) without it, and play Balance, I did.
2 Halinn – Dust Bowl / Mishra's Factory / Orzhov Basilica / The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale / Vindicate
Vindicate was a great innovation. It gives the deck much needed flexibility and speed.
3 Xyre – Black Lotus / Black Lotus / Blood Moon / Glowrider / Preacher
In a round where people can respond to Glowrider, it loses its effectiveness. Still a solid four cards.
4 WhammWhamme – Cloud of Faeries / Grapeshot / Izzet Boilerworks / Karakas / Leyline of Singularity
With the exception of Krosan Grip, it beat up other fatties and combos like it's supposed to.
5 Chimpanzee – Black Lotus / Black Lotus / Black Lotus / Hunting Pack / Yawgmoth's Will
Known solid deck gets average score. Glad to see I wasn't totally off-base on people playing storm.
6 sajin – Lake of the Dead / Lake of the Dead / Nether Spirit / Tomb of Urami / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
5/5 + Spirit seems decidedly sub-par compared to most of the fatty strategies.
7 ngollon – Forest / Kodama of the North Tree / Leyline of Lifeforce / Simic Growth Chamber / Simic Growth Chamber
Why not Boseiju + Eureka + Progenitus, which would give you equal counter-protection and land, but with a 10/10 awesome guy?
8 kwijibo – Boseiju, Who Shelters All / Krosan Grip / Phyrexian Dreadnought / Simic Growth Chamber / Trickbind
Grip was interesting, if narrow, for split second, which is quite relevant in this format. The deck suffers somewhat from over-investing in a fragile win condition.
9 ced395 – Boros Garrison / Boros Garrison / Leyline of Lifeforce / Ravenous Baboons / Windborn Muse
Pretty simple, and very effective. It's Tabernacle + Dust Bowl with a faster and flying win condition.
10 bateleur – Black Lotus / Black Lotus / Black Lotus / Hunting Pack / Yawgmoth's Will
See #5.
