More people, more cards, more POTM. Conflux is legal and February is here. This round saw a resurgence of combo, particularly Form of the Dragon. Now, with access to Progenitus, which is better?
I've mentioned before that I think Pact of Negation is bad for the format, and that's still my belief, but I seem to have quite missed the mark on Show and Tell. If anyone has further thoughts on either card, please post them here.
4 WhammWhamme – Chain of Vapor / City of Brass / Greater Gargadon / Orim's Chant / Restore Balance I just can't bring myself to say anything good about OMC. Maybe I'm still underestimating it, and OMC will one day storm the round, but Chant isn't going to get you there. It could have at least been Duress.
6 aurorasparrow – Daze / Foil / Nether Spirit / Thallid / Tropical Island Not too long since this was dominant, but people do adapt, and Thallid-Foil isn't really a powerful deck.
8 Knowledge – Mishra's Workshop / Smokestack / Sol Ring / Steel Golem / Wheel of Torture This is the only deck that far exceeded my expectations, if only because I don't understand how Wheel helps this deck. But it may be better Foil insurance than Sphere of Resistance, so I'm not sure.
Five Card Blind (5CB) is a weekly Magic tournament, run entirely within this forum. Players "blindly" submit five-card decks to compete against each other. Scoring assumes optimal play; given perfect information and no random effects, a match will always have the same outcome. 5CB is a pure challenge of deckbuilding and metagaming.
Rules
1. Players' decks contain exactly five cards, which begin the game in hand. Players do not mulligan or sideboard.
2. Players' libraries begin the game empty, but still exist. Players do not lose the game as a result of being unable to draw a card.
3. A random effect produces the result that least benefits the owner of the source of the effect.
4. During players' first and second turns, no player may make a play which would win the game, create an extra turn, or force a card in an opponent's hand to change zones.
5. Decks may include any number of any card legal in Vintage, with the exception of the following cards:
1. Each participant submits a deck to the 5CB moderator (Mogg). If a participant submits multiple decks, then only the most recent submission is counted.
2. Each participant plays against each other participant. Matches consist of two games, with each player going first once. Results assume perfect information and play.
3. Points determine tournament standings; the player with the most points wins the round. For each match, players earn: 3 points for two wins or a win and a draw, 1 point for two draws or a win and a loss, and 0 points for two losses or a draw and a loss. Tiebreakers are determined by number of games won, followed by number of games drawn.
4. The points from all rounds ending in a given month are summed to determine that month's Player of the Month. At the end of each month, the player with the most points becomes the Player of the Month.
Mogg> I'm glad someone finally ran the presumed-optimal Lich's Mirror build. After you designed it a few weeks back I was beginning to think nobody would actually run it before Pact got banned!

Just noticed this - did aurorasparrow really submit this deck with Tropical Island in place of Island? Because if he can never cast the Thallid his results are quite different from what is reported.
I've mentioned before that I think Pact of Negation is bad for the format, and that's still my belief, but I seem to have quite missed the mark on Show and Tell. If anyone has further thoughts on either card, please post them here.
This week had normal format.
Results
1 Mogg – Black Lotus / Channel / Lich's Mirror / Magma Mine / Pact of Negation
About as good, but a bit better, than I thought it would be.
2 Halinn – Black Lotus / Form of the Dragon / Misdirection / Snapback / Show and Tell
I expected this do much better, but I also have a history of deluding myself that Misdirection is playable.
3 ced395 – Black Lotus / Channel / Pact of Negation / Pact of Negation / Platinum Angel
The classic 3-3 (at least since Rakdos lost discard). I think, though, that this deck is overshadowed by Mirror.
4 WhammWhamme – Chain of Vapor / City of Brass / Greater Gargadon / Orim's Chant / Restore Balance
I just can't bring myself to say anything good about OMC. Maybe I'm still underestimating it, and OMC will one day storm the round, but Chant isn't going to get you there. It could have at least been Duress.
5 Chimpanzee – Black Lotus / Form of the Dragon / Red Elemental Blast / Show and Tell / Simian Spirit Guide
I could not have predicted that REB would be relevant in so many matches. That said, it was still only three of eight, so you playing 3CB more.
6 aurorasparrow – Daze / Foil / Nether Spirit / Thallid / Tropical Island
Not too long since this was dominant, but people do adapt, and Thallid-Foil isn't really a powerful deck.
7 MyNameIsFourteen – Chain of Vapor / Island / Kataki, War's Wage / Meddling Mage / Mox Pearl
It's amazing how much of a difference Mox over land makes. I've never quite understood Kataki, but it seemed to be at least mildly relevant.
8 Knowledge – Mishra's Workshop / Smokestack / Sol Ring / Steel Golem / Wheel of Torture
This is the only deck that far exceeded my expectations, if only because I don't understand how Wheel helps this deck. But it may be better Foil insurance than Sphere of Resistance, so I'm not sure.
9 bateleur – Aura of Silence / Black Lotus / City of Traitors / Soldevi Digger / Voidstone Gargoyle
I think Gargoyle's classic strength compared to Kodama is a minimized reliance Lotus. It was still interesting to see this build in action.
