So, I forgot to ban Lightning Helix/Scepter, and about half the players noticed and took advantage. Oh well, it was still an interesting round. With all the one mana discard gone, many people went one of two ways, either turning to Castigate, Smallpox, or Brain Pry, or else aiming for a quick combo kill. It turns out that discard is still king of the combo, though.
Congratulations are definitely in order for Thoomor, who not only anticipated the superiority of discard in a format where emptying your hand on turn 1 is really hard, but took that and made a deck that metagamed perfectly against both the discard decks and the Scepter decks. It turns out that what really made a good deck this round was LD.
1 jcsuperstar - Pillage is great. The rest of this list sucks.
Boros Garrison, Ghitu Encampment, Honden of Infinite Rage, Pillage, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale I'd comment, but actually, you pretty much nailed it.
2 armlx - carrion pigeons is awesome and deserves to win (aka noname.dec)
Disenchant, Isochron Scepter, Lightning Helix, Mox Ruby, Plains Two things: Disenchant only guarantees a tie. Why bother? and Why waste an extra slot on mana? You can't do anything with only one mana anyway.
3 Xyre - Who Bans Blackmail?!
Daze, Island, Mox Emerald, Tempting Wurm, Tempting Wurm This deck could have really bitten you in the butt, but it didn't. I would have at least tried to find a substitute for one of the Wurms, so you have a backup plan. Imaginary Pet?
4 Chimpanzee - 3CB times 2
Ancient Tomb, Illusionary Mask, Isochron Scepter, Lightning Helix, Phyrexian Dreadnought Good deck, but for some reason it always felt like there was too much you couldn't answer.
5 Mogg - Just Having Fun.
Ancient Tomb, Illusionary Mask, Mana Vault, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Phyrexian Dreadnought Turn 2 wins are nice, but there was a fair amount of artifact hate going around. Also, this deck loses hard to Maze of Ith, Tabernacle, which hurt.
6 carrion pigeons - Post-Christmas Depression
Ancient Tomb, Donate, Illusions of Grandeur, Mox Sapphire, Mana Crypt Self-descriptive and self-destructive. Just how I like them.
7 Halinn - IsoStick, Metagame version!
Ancient Tomb, Illusion // Reality, Isochron Scepter, Isochron Scepter, Lightning Helix This was better than armlx's deck by a lot, but there was still major room for improvement.
8 menma - Land-Tech
Corpulent Corpse, Daze, Maze of Ith, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, Underground Sea Unfortunately, Daze is not great in a format like this; it's too easy to get around. It is nice aginst Scepter, though.
9 WhammWhamme - Wee Beasties
Hunting Pack, Mana Crypt, Mox Emerald, Mox Sapphire, Retract I PM'd you about this, but I never heard from you. If I'm missing something, let me know, because this deck doesn't seem workable to me.
10 dashieff - ANewMetaGame.dec
Castigate, Isochron Scepter, Lightning Helix, Mox Pearl, Mox Jet The best Scepter deck by a ways. Discard is just that good, I guess.
11 bateleur - Mirror Broken
Ancient Tomb, Eureka, Hickory Woodlot, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Pestermite The fact that this loses unconditionally on the draw to Helix, and is utterly vulnerable to discard going first or second, made it a poor choice for the round, but it otherwise looks pretty solid. I love the idea of 10 billion Faeries storming in for the win.
12 YuanTi - Discard and Bondage, Oh My!
Ancient Tomb, Brain Pry, Lotus Petal, Mox Jet, Yixlid Jailer There were good ideas here, but you're running three mana sources for no especially good reason (getting Jailer out turn 1 and using discard is generally unnecessary). Also, Jailer is very poor, despite the awesome artwork.
13 Thoomor - The Dusty Tomb
Blinkmoth Nexus, Dust Bowl, Maze of Ith, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth Again, gratz on the amazing metagame call.
14 The Mad Tapper - Dr. Smallpox or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Ban
Basking Rootwalla, Diabolic Edict, Dryad Arbor, Peat Bog, Smallpox Smallpox is an utter beating. I thought you were going to win, when I was looking over the decks, and you did come really close.
15 andelijah - Alternate Casting Costs
Commandeer, Disrupting Shoal, Disrupting Shoal, Dryad Arbor, Misdirection I have never seen the point of this deck. Commandeer is conditionally good, but Disrupting Shoal is awful. You may as well run Spell Snare and run a better WC.
Please remember that a single POTM point will be deducted for each time deck has been played before the current week.

The deadline for next week will be Thursday, Feb. 7 at 3PM EST. Results will be posted before the end of the following Saturday.
For bookkeeping purposes, I would appreciate it if you could alphebetize your decks. Just to save me 10 minutes. Don't bother if you're dyslexic, though.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
WhammWhamme's deck works fine, and probably knocks me out of first. Did you misread Mana Crypt as Mana Vault?
I think it goes 6-4-3-6-6-3-6-3-X-3-3-6-6-6-0 = 61
Also, when will Morningtide be made legal in 5CB?
No, I didn't. Here's what I'm assuming: play Mox Emerald, play Mox Sapphire, play Mana Crypt, tap all, play Retract targeting Mana Crypt, play Mana Crypt, tap Mana Crypt, total mana production is 4G, which is not near enough.
I'm guessing that he thought Mana Crypt makes 3 mana, but it still doesn't work then, since he can only make 6G and not 5GG. So honestly, I have no idea.

Retract returns all artifacts the caster controls. So it's Mox, Mox, Crypt, tap for 2UG, Retract, Mox, Mox, Crypt, tap again for a total of 4UGG.
EDIT:
Mine should be 2-6-6-6-3-3-6-2-0-0-3-6-2-x-6 = 51
Here's the corrections:
14 The Mad Tapper - Basking Rootwalla, Diabolic Edict, Dryad Arbor, Peat Bog, Smallpox
1 jcsuperstar - Boros Garrison, Ghitu Encampment, Honden of Infinite Rage, Pillage, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
Listed as 6-0
Should be 2-2
Tabernacle hoses me, and he can play around Smallpox. As long as he doesn't play Tabernacle as his only land, I can't forcibly remove it with Smallpox. My best bet is to blow up one of his mana producing lands and then draw against Tabernacle.
14 The Mad Tapper - Basking Rootwalla, Diabolic Edict, Dryad Arbor, Peat Bog, Smallpox
6 carrion pigeons - Ancient Tomb, Donate, Illusions of Grandeur, Mox Sapphire, Mana Crypt
Listed as 0-6
Should be 3-3
When you're on the play you successfully set up the combo. But when I'm on the play you're boned. You can't play Illusions and Donate in the same turn and every card you have is crucial, so as soon as I untap and cast Smallpox it's over.
14 The Mad Tapper - Basking Rootwalla, Diabolic Edict, Dryad Arbor, Peat Bog, Smallpox
9 WhammWhamme - Hunting Pack, Mana Crypt, Mox Emerald, Mox Sapphire, Retract
Listed as 6-0
Should be 0-6
I can't Smallpox fast enough to keep him from throwing down eight 4/4 critters.
The fact that this loses unconditionally on the draw to Helix
No it doesn't - that's the entire reason I prefer it to Illusions/Donate.
When Pestermite hits play I tap their Scepter. They can activate it in response if they like, but then I make a million faeries in response to the activation. Either way, they lose.
So...
vs. armlx
Currently: 3-3
Should be: 6-0
vs. Chimpanzee
Currently: 0-6
Should be: 6-0
vs. Halinn
Currently: 3-3
Should be: 6-0
(You're right about vulnerability to discard, but I was expecting more stuff like Thoomor's deck and long-game control. That's metagaming for you.)

Yes, Morningtide will be legal for 5CB #20 since sets are now legal from their release date (and 5CB follows vintage - see rules above).

Yeah, Morningtide is legal as of this week. Due to the new release schedule conflicting with the schedule I'd drawn up for special weeks and the like, I haven't been able to make allowances for Morningtide up to now.
I think by the time Shadowmoor comes out, I'll change the schedule so that I run special weeks early in the month and normal weeks later.

I’m not sure what specifically you missed here, but I can easily pay for Illusions long enough to hit you for 24 twice.

Dust Bowl is too slow to be relevant. I can pay for Tabernacle and hit for twelve each turn.

Tabernacle + Dustbowl is pretty effective here.
13 Thoomor - Blinkmoth Nexus, Dust Bowl, Maze of Ith, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth vs. 14 The Mad Tapper - Basking Rootwalla, Diabolic Edict, Dryad Arbor, Peat Bog, Smallpox
Listed as: 2-2 Should be: 6-0
If TMT waits and plays for the draw, Thoomor destroys TMT’s Peat Bog and wins. TMT can play Smallpox. Thoomor will discard/sacrifice Maze of Ith and Dustbowl. TMT is left with Rootwalla and Arbor in play and Edict in hand. He can’t sacrifice Arbor to fulfill the land requirement because he would have to sacrifice it as a creature first. TMT’s Arbor is useless because of Tabernacle and Thoomor wins with Nexus.

Drat. Good call about the order of sacrifice on Smallpox. You're right, I can't sac Dryad as the land. And yeah, JC can just sac Tabernacle to Smallpox and set up Honden ftw. Man, you need to stop figuring up scores. I lose points every time you do.

I’m not sure what specifically you missed here, but I can easily pay for Illusions long enough to hit you for 24 twice.
No. Illusions of Grandeur has cumulative upkeep, and you can't pay 4 mana ever unless you choose to forgo your win condition. Then you can't pay 6.

I can pay for Daze and Tabernacle, and one Dreadnought will get through each turn.
No. menma Dazes your Mask and you can only get one Dreadnaught into play. Then you have to pay the upkeep for it during your upkeep step, and you have no spare mana to play the second Dreadaught during your main phase, so Maze stops you.

Tabernacle + Dustbowl is pretty effective here.
Er, how? Dustbowl is far too slow to deal with a turn 2 win, and Tabernacle has no effect on 10 billion hasty Pestermites, nor on 1 hasty Kiki-Jiki until it's too late.
13 Thoomor - Blinkmoth Nexus, Dust Bowl, Maze of Ith, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth vs. 14 The Mad Tapper - Basking Rootwalla, Diabolic Edict, Dryad Arbor, Peat Bog, Smallpox

If TMT waits and plays for the draw, Thoomor destroys TMT’s Peat Bog and wins. TMT can play Smallpox. Thoomor will discard/sacrifice Maze of Ith and Dustbowl.

I play Tomb, Vault and pass. Next turn, I have five mana, so Daze is irrelevant.

I'm not sure why I would see above, since Thoomor doesn't run Daze. Let's see how it plays out if Thoomor is first:
T: Tabernacle
M: 2x 12/12
T: Maze
M: Pay for Tabernacle, swing (one 12/12 get's maze'd)
T: 8, Dust Bowl (requires 3 + tap to activate, so he waits another turn to use it)
M: Pay for Tabernacle, swing (one 12/12 get's maze'd). Thoomor's life total is now sub-zero.
I'm really, really confused by this statement, on multiple levels. First, I can pay at least 6 (crypt + tomb + tomb + mox), and as much as 10 (I'll be able to untap vault). Second, what would cause me to lose my Dreadnoughts? Third, when would I ever have to pay 6? Illusions adds one turn to my kill, so I win on turn 3.
I'm really, really confused by your statement. You're deck is Mana Vault, Ancient Tomb, Illusionary Mask, and Phyrexian Dreadnought x2. You can only tap Mana Vault for mana once because it takes to untap it and the only other mana source you have produces :2mana:. When you say you can use a second Tomb and a Mox, I find myself wondering if you think Donate gives you all of his permanents. Donate gives one permanent, in this case Illusions of Grandeur.

I think you nailed it. I've gotten just a little too used to Sky Swallower + Illusions of Grandeur. So, yeah, ignore my correction there.

Boros Garrison, Ghitu Encampment, Honden of Infinite Rage, Pillage, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
I'd comment, but actually, you pretty much nailed it.
2 armlx - carrion pigeons is awesome and deserves to win (aka noname.dec)
Disenchant, Isochron Scepter, Lightning Helix, Mox Ruby, Plains
Two things: Disenchant only guarantees a tie. Why bother? and Why waste an extra slot on mana? You can't do anything with only one mana anyway.
3 Xyre - Who Bans Blackmail?!
Daze, Island, Mox Emerald, Tempting Wurm, Tempting Wurm
This deck could have really bitten you in the butt, but it didn't. I would have at least tried to find a substitute for one of the Wurms, so you have a backup plan. Imaginary Pet?
4 Chimpanzee - 3CB times 2
Ancient Tomb, Illusionary Mask, Isochron Scepter, Lightning Helix, Phyrexian Dreadnought
Good deck, but for some reason it always felt like there was too much you couldn't answer.
5 Mogg - Just Having Fun.
Ancient Tomb, Illusionary Mask, Mana Vault, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Phyrexian Dreadnought
Turn 2 wins are nice, but there was a fair amount of artifact hate going around. Also, this deck loses hard to Maze of Ith, Tabernacle, which hurt.
6 carrion pigeons - Post-Christmas Depression
Ancient Tomb, Donate, Illusions of Grandeur, Mox Sapphire, Mana Crypt
Self-descriptive and self-destructive. Just how I like them.
7 Halinn - IsoStick, Metagame version!
Ancient Tomb, Illusion // Reality, Isochron Scepter, Isochron Scepter, Lightning Helix
This was better than armlx's deck by a lot, but there was still major room for improvement.
8 menma - Land-Tech
Corpulent Corpse, Daze, Maze of Ith, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, Underground Sea
Unfortunately, Daze is not great in a format like this; it's too easy to get around. It is nice aginst Scepter, though.
9 WhammWhamme - Wee Beasties
Hunting Pack, Mana Crypt, Mox Emerald, Mox Sapphire, Retract
I PM'd you about this, but I never heard from you. If I'm missing something, let me know, because this deck doesn't seem workable to me.
10 dashieff - ANewMetaGame.dec
Castigate, Isochron Scepter, Lightning Helix, Mox Pearl, Mox Jet
The best Scepter deck by a ways. Discard is just that good, I guess.
11 bateleur - Mirror Broken
Ancient Tomb, Eureka, Hickory Woodlot, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Pestermite
The fact that this loses unconditionally on the draw to Helix, and is utterly vulnerable to discard going first or second, made it a poor choice for the round, but it otherwise looks pretty solid. I love the idea of 10 billion Faeries storming in for the win.
12 YuanTi - Discard and Bondage, Oh My!
Ancient Tomb, Brain Pry, Lotus Petal, Mox Jet, Yixlid Jailer
There were good ideas here, but you're running three mana sources for no especially good reason (getting Jailer out turn 1 and using discard is generally unnecessary). Also, Jailer is very poor, despite the awesome artwork.
13 Thoomor - The Dusty Tomb
Blinkmoth Nexus, Dust Bowl, Maze of Ith, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
Again, gratz on the amazing metagame call.
14 The Mad Tapper - Dr. Smallpox or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Ban
Basking Rootwalla, Diabolic Edict, Dryad Arbor, Peat Bog, Smallpox
Smallpox is an utter beating. I thought you were going to win, when I was looking over the decks, and you did come really close.
15 andelijah - Alternate Casting Costs
Commandeer, Disrupting Shoal, Disrupting Shoal, Dryad Arbor, Misdirection
I have never seen the point of this deck. Commandeer is conditionally good, but Disrupting Shoal is awful. You may as well run Spell Snare and run a better WC.

No it doesn't - that's the entire reason I prefer it to Illusions/Donate.
When Pestermite hits play I tap their Scepter. They can activate it in response if they like, but then I make a million faeries in response to the activation. Either way, they lose.

I’m also really impressed by Chimpanzee’s results this month. He pulled second place by a good margin despite only playing in 4/5 rounds.
Here’s what I got for my deck, WhammWhamme’s, dashieff’s, Thoomor’s and TMT’s. As you can see, my results differ from yours.
Below are my explanations for the changes in those games (aside from WhammWhamme’s games, which should be pretty clear now).

Tabernacle + Dustbowl is pretty effective here.

vs.
14 The Mad Tapper - Basking Rootwalla, Diabolic Edict, Dryad Arbor, Peat Bog, Smallpox
Listed as: 2-2
Should be: 6-0
If TMT waits and plays for the draw, Thoomor destroys TMT’s Peat Bog and wins.
1 jcsuperstar - Boros Garrison, Ghitu Encampment, Honden of Infinite Rage, Pillage, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale

14 The Mad Tapper - Basking Rootwalla, Diabolic Edict, Dryad Arbor, Peat Bog, Smallpox

Jc gets Honden to stick and wins (it can kill creatures, too).

Edit: I'm an idiot.
So? Jc sacrifices Tabernacle and discards Pillage. TMT has no way to deal with the relevant cards.
I agree with the other corrections you had to my corrections.
