Before we start, just thought I'd let you know that you can go to TheManaDrain to enter in their 3CB Here. They're hurting for players, so please, play both!
MY GOD. 45 entries. It grows a bit. And unlike last time, there were only two mirror matches. The result? 903 matches calculated. Phew.
Good news: Analyses this week! Yum.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
There is new policy regarding deck edits. Because these contests are getting so huge, I'd like to start earlier in the week to put less of a crunch on Sunday and Monday. As such, you will only have 24 hours to edit your deck after you initially send it. If I haven't calculated your matchups yet, I may be lenient with this rule. But if I have calculated your matchups, it ain't changing.
In this thread, be sure to post your opinions on whether or not Misguided Rage should be banned. Scavenger/Capsize and Scavenger/Arc Lightning are both balanced and I'll leave them be. But is Rage too good?
I will continue to post the 3CB thread on MTGNews. However, once it is posted, I will no longer update it. All matchup fixes and such will appear only on the Salvation thread. It's really a pain to have to transcend websites to fix two numbers.
I am looking for a couple people to potentially help with 3CB matches. I still plan on doing the majority of them, but some help for heavy weeks would be appreciated. This is NO commitment at all. To join, simply add goblinboy87@hotmail.com to MSN Messenger. If you're on when I'm doing matches, I'll give you an IM.
1. Goblinboy: Crack the Earth; Taiga; Thallid
In Theatres This Summer A good ol' Crack deck. <3. Thankfully, there turned out to be quite a few storage land decks this week.
2. billking: Hickory Woodlot; Tempting Wurm; Tempting Wurm
Biggs and Wedge A very good deck. I like it. There's always that anamoly that you see when someone plays a Dreadnought only to have it StP'd. This gets around it and thus has a distinct advantage. Slower, though, and that's a pain.
3. jcsuperstar: Black Lotus; Nether Spirit; Pox
"Ban Pox" This one draws more often than the Last Rites version, but that isn't a bad thing when those draws come from losses. Nice pick.
4. non_the_road: Boomerang; City of Traitors; Isochron Scepter
Draw! MISE!... er.... nice deck. Too many decks have the ability to nix Scepter to give you an across-the-board Mise, but really, how often does that happen, especially with 39 players?
5. Quilt: Arcbound Slith; Mishra's Workshop; Sphere of Resistance
The Getaway Nice build. I've always liked these, but holes in the curve hurt them. Slith is a good pick; it forces a lot of draws.
6. aurorasparrow: Bringer of the Red Dawn; Mercadian Bazaar; Stronghold Gambit
bringer!.dec Wow! Nice tech, there. This could become a popular deck.
7. Dusk_: Aftershock; Orcish Lumberjack; Taiga
Ripple Effect I like the Desert Twister-ish style here. Deals with a lot of stuff. Sadly, deals with it at sorcery speed.
8. Magikeeper: Black Lotus; Force of Will; Thalakos Dreamsower
Unrelenting Dream. Dec Awesome tech here. Thalakos Dreamsower is sure to become a staple. A+ on design.
9. Chrome Moxen: Black Lotus; Black Lotus; Spiritmonger
i am the eye of the tiger Yep... Spiritmonger.
10. Kenji: Ensnaring Bridge; Subterranean Hangar; Swamp Mosquito
Fly my pretty, fly! Original list here. Bridge is always a good choice, and it's not shabby on turn 5 either. Mosquito, of course, is the requisite sidekick.
11. Shadowlord: Black Lotus; Nether Spirit; Pox
Chinpokomon See jcsuperstar
12. bateleur: City of Traitors; Energy Chamber; Ornithopter
One Fat Helicopter Vebulid is not a bad card in 3CB. This is like a Vebulid that can attack each turn. The drawback, of course, is that it takes up your whole deck. Certainly original.
13. epeeguy: Black Lotus; Island Sanctuary; Tethered Griffin
Griffin's Nest Always a good, quick-winning lock deck. Nice pick.
14. spuzzem king: Black Lotus; Blood Moon; Treasure Hunter
hunting for the moon I like this deck more every time I see it. It just works well. I do wonder if there's a better card to do the same job than Blood Moon, but I can't think of one.
15. CynicalSquirrel: City of Traitors; Culling Scales; Mishra's Factory
I suck at coming up with names... .dec Standard Scales/Factory. Hurt by the number of high-cost spells running about, but still effective.
16. DragonDude2004: Black Lotus; Shizuko, Caller of Autumn; Words of Wilding
Winnie the Pooh comin to beat you Shizuko's been tried almost every week since BoK's legality, and it's been inferior to Treasure Hunter pretty much every time. This may be the exception. I think you may have hit a viable Shizuko list here.
17. Kheoinn: Drop of Honey; Eladamri's Vineyard; Treetop Village
Jungle Boogie The Drop is a very nice touch that fits well with the deck. Nice build.
18. SorryGuy: Rogue Elephant; Savannah; Swords to Plowshares
Why must I be stupid with my title for a deck that will stand out? I do not know I guess i just feel like it. So my deck is name in addition to the examplation of my deck name is deck name.dec The inability to cast Rogue Elephant without losing Swords potential really hurt you. Perhaps Seal of Removal would work better here.
19. Lone Warrior: Lavaborn Muse; Mercadian Bazaar; The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
Another One Bites the Dust.dec Storage Land/Creature/Tabernacle always works somewhat clunky, but this list works, somewhat. Because it can't be eternally stalled, Muse is probably the most fitting creature for this awkward plan.
20. Nazgul_Master: Ferropede; Mishra's Workshop; Trinisphere
Ice Cold Fever I'm glad my deck is catching on Anyway, this is a nice pick for this week. Lots of storage lands. Lots of Loti and Cities that get hammered by the 3Sphere.
21. Nazdakka: Chimeric Idol; Mishra's Workshop; The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
Pendrell Vale-ue Store Probably the best situation to be in with a Tabernacle is to have a creature of your own. However, the Tabernacle doesn't like that. This gets around that. Nice job.
22. Dragon_Master: Daze; Thallid; Tropical Island
save 15% on car insurance! Standard Not Bodyroc list here. Always a good pick.
23. KeeperEUSC: City of Traitors; Fire/Ice; Isochron Scepter
Dual Staff of DOOM.dec Ahhh, Fire/Ice on a stick. Good for weenies, good for fat, good for winning.
24. The_Grim_Streaker: City of Traitors; Soldevi Sentry; Umezawa's Jitte
r0b0t1c n1nJ0rZ!!!11!1!!1!! A nice list, if a bit slow. Once it got going, it won. 'Bout time someone got Jitte right.
25. Ankh-Morporkian: Mishra's Factory; Powder Keg; Sheltered Valley
Why was no one playing Keg? A strong list, as Keg lists always are. Valley turned out to be the best of the available picks this week, so nice job there too.
26. Istanbul: Black Lotus; Channel; Darksteel Colossus
here goes... Big. Fat. First turn. The 10 life turned out to be significant a time or two, but not often. Good beats.
27. deari: City of Traitors; Soldevi Sentry; Sphere of Resistance
Digging for points with relics Sentry yet again shows its colors. I like this deck.
28. Bluemage76: Caustic Tar; Subterranean Hangar; The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
Fade's T3ch Interesting to see this deck's performance outside of a fixed metagame. Not bad for such a limited deck.
29. Alfred: Avarice Totem; Mercadian Bazaar; Mishra's Factory
Prince Al A very, very, very interesting list. I do wonder if Confiscate might have been better, but really the opponent couldn't pay the 5 most of the time.
30. Greebo: Chimeric Idol; Mishra's Workshop; Trinisphere
Heavy Metal Incorporated A good list, naturally. Sadly, there weren't as many Tabernacles to dodge this time, but it's not silly to think that there might have been. Good picks in that respect.
31. help im a bug: Pendelhaven; Scryb Sprites; Thallid
Socks An interesting dual-threat deck. Pendelhaven really helps here, but does it help as much as Daze would have?
32. r_x_: Elves of Deep Shadow; Tinder Farm; Vindicate
Farm Elves Will Fall To The Dark Side.dec Vindicate is such a strong spell in this format it's always surprising when someone is able to pull of casting it. Nice job.
33. halinn: Black Lotus; Solitary Confinement; Squee, Goblin Nabob
Draw, go A fun Mise deck (well... not totally... I suppose you COULD hardcast the Squee). Did what it was supposed to do.
34. Unstable: Eladamri's Vineyard; The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale; Treetop Village
tets.dec Classic TETs. The meta was more prepared for it this time, but not entirely. Nice pick
35. wonkey_donkey: Karakas; Mercadian Bazaar; Starke of Rath
Starsky.dec Always a good deck for a slow metagame, which this appears to be.
36. Stax: Crack the Earth; Mountain; Roc Hatchling
Roc Out! A slower, yet more resilient version of Crack than the Thallid one. Never a bad idea to try.
37. Whamme: Energy Field; Palinchron; Saprazzan Cove
[Saga had so many cards that deserved more play time...] Palinchron is a very interesting pick here. I like it. It gives you more protection versus removal assuming that the Field takes care of the win condition, which it often does.
38. Fadeblue: Darksteel Reactor; Energy Field; Saprazzan Cove
Haven'tBeenFollowingTheMetagame Likely not as good as Tongs would have been, given the low number of Sphere/Trinisphere type decks running around. Still not bad.
39. Hivemaster: Black Lotus; City of Traitors; Kodama of the North Tree
Can't touch this. Big, Fat, 'n' untargetable. Trample doesn't hurt either.
40. !Chuckles!: Energy Field; Sleeper Agent; Sulfur Vent
It's Tek, I swear! Always a fun list to pull out, if a bit slow and vulnerable. Bravo for playing it.
41. Silver Seraph: Decree of Justice; Fountain of Cho; Swords to Plowshares
Army of Justice Still an interesting deck. It's got a lot going for it, but extreme slowness against it.
42. NavyJoe: Black Lotus; Elephant Guide; Treasure Hunter
Treasure Map An interesting deck. A turn 1 5/5 isn't terribly impressive, but a backup 3/3 is.
43. ImAtHome: Anurid Scavenger; Black Lotus; Misguided Rage
HoorayForStax!.dec Standard Goodery Nice pick, as it always is.
44. Quadro: Black Lotus; Jinxed Idol; Spark Elemental
The Test That Stumped Them All A very interesting list. A little low on the defense, but still decent on the clock speed. Sadly, auto-loses to any deck that can play a creature. That's unfortunate.
45. Froggystyle: Black Lotus; Channel; Darksteel Colossus
BIG See Istanbul
These results are SO jumbo, I've gotta put a screen-stretching image in here. If that doesn't work for you, I recommend copy/pasting the table to Notepad or something similar.

[-----------------------------] POTM TROPHY THINGAMAJIGGER
I realized that I'd never seen a Trivia/Games/Contests thread give out real-world prizes for their online games. I thought it might be interesting to try out.
So, every POTM winner (including, retroactively, Dusk_ and Fadeblue) will recieve (assuming they're willing to give me their adress) a customized 3CB trophy. It will be a card from my collection which somehow fits you and will have written on it "3CB POTM WINNER!" and the date.
It's nothing you could sell on eBay but it should be fun nonetheless.
(I'm still working on these)

Suggested Match Score 2-2
How does he win? If he drops the Dreamsower, he can't force of will my lotus/creature. If he Force of Wills my Lotus/Creature, he doesn't have a creature.
Umm... as I understand it, Thalakos Dreamsower can hit past a creature (using Shadow) and tap it. Then the tapped creature's controller has a turn (it doesn't untap), then the Dreamsower's controller has a turn, does untap it, attacks again and deals another point of damage.
In other words, Dreamsower can keep one enemy creature tapped down indefinitely whilst continuing to deal damage.

Current Score 6-0
Suggested Score 3-3
I think he wins the race going first, although I may have miscounted.
You miscounted.
Starke = 2 counters + needs to hit 10 times = 12 turns (actual kill on turn 14)
Tar = 6 counters + needs to hit 7 times = 13 turns (actual kill on turn 15)
Thus your kill is always going to be first.

vs 29. Alfred: Avarice Totem; Mercadian Bazaar; Mishra's Factory
Current Score 0-6
Suggested Score 2-2
I don't see how this can be anything other than drawn. I can drop starke with impunity, and it again leads to a factory-starke standoff. Remember the totem doesn't hit lands.
You're right, but it's actually quite complicated. It really comes down to the fact that Starke doesn't have haste, and thus, when he controls it, he can't have it kill itself before you can Karakas it. I think goblinboy forgot the switched-controllers-haste-rule thingie here.
Spock is not portrayed correctly. If Vulcans are above petty emotions, what motivates him to join the most elite starship crew in the galaxy? Greebo: Chimeric Idol; Mishra's Workshop; Trinisphere

34. Unstable: Eladamri's Vineyard; The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale; Treetop Village
vs.
29. Alfred - Mercadian Bazaar, Avarice Totem, Mishra's Factory
I save totem in my hand, and pump the vineyard mana into my factory. If he attacks with treetop, I will block and pump the factory killing both. On my turn, I will use the vineyard mana to cast totem, making my progression downwards odd, with his being even. This works only when going first.
Original Score: 2-2
Suggested Score: 6-0
24. The_Grim_Streaker: City of Traitors; Soldevi Sentry; Umezawa's Jitte
vs.
29. Alfred: Avarice Totem; Mercadian Bazaar; Mishra's Factory
If he gets any counters on the Jitte, I will steal the jitte, then kill his sentry. Even if he removes the counters in response, I can charge up the bazaar wiht counters until I have enough to activate factory and equip it, killing the sentry. If he doesn't get any counters on it, I will steal sentry, and win.
Wow! I thougth I would come in last. I was using Sleeper Agent! I mean I love that card and all, but....
Anyway, next week's format looks fun.

I think the fundamental card here to ban is Scavenger. Scavenger/Capsize is more powerful then Rage in that you nullify any type of removal against the Toad.Arc Lightning is "fixed", but it just speeds up the deck only a turn faster.
But if I have to settle with Misguided Rage, that is fine. I've known the deck itself be broken since it first debuted, but meh...
BTW, I didn't win best deck title this week?! Wha?! Big frown to play on words =(

The rage should be banned, IMO. Reusable destruction is nearly impossible to fight against.
The main argument against banning is that the deck rolls to any type of creature destruction as well as any Lotus hate. It's also the only deck that rolls to Lotus hate going second OR first.

I don't have to play starke using Karakas. I can just build up to 3 counters before dropping my threat, and can respond to swords with bouncing starke.

Again, I just keep the karakas for bouncing purposes and use starke as keg bait. It ends up in a standoff of starke vs factory.
Correct you are. I tried to remember Karakas' protection capabilities. I suppose I was just tired by the end of it. Of course the complicated decks (totem, starke) come near the end, amirite?

I think he wins the race going first, although I may have miscounted.
Tar wins on turn 14 (Tar played and first activation turn 8, 6 more turns to win). Starke, since you can pay Tabernacle with Karakas, wins on turn 14 as well (cast turn 4, 10 to win) so you are correct.
Billking - you forgot that Tar can be played on the Tabernacle.

I don't see how this can be anything other than drawn. I can drop starke with impunity, and it again leads to a factory-starke standoff. Remember the totem doesn't hit lands.
This was the most confusing matchup of the whole thing, so let me work this out.
*thinks*
Yep, forgot that under infinite mana you can recast Starke every turn. I thought that by forcing you to bounce him he could get enough time to kill with Factory.

Player#1- Goblinboy - Taiga, Thallid, Crack the Earth
Player#2 - NavyJoe - Black Lotus, Elephant Guide, Treasure Hunter
Current Match Score - 2-2
Suggested Match Score 0-6
Explain Why
You First:
Y: Taiga, Thallid
M: Lotus, Treasure Hunter, Lotus, Elephant Guide
Y: SC:1, Crack, Sac Hunter and get a 3/3, you sac Taiga
M: attack 3/3 (20/17)
Y: SC:2, attack (19/17)
M: attack (19/14)
Y: SC:3, attack (18/14), token
M: attack, now either you block w/ token or take 3, either way my 3/3 will out race your 1/1 with a blocker every 3 turns.
I need only 6 turns to create 2 1/1s with which to gangblock and kill your 3/3 elephant token. This happens on turn 7. When I go first,
M: Taiga, Thallid
Y: Hunter/Guide
M: Token, Crack
Y: Swing 1 (need 7 total)
M: Token 2
Y: Swing 2
M: Token 3
Y: Swing 3
M: Token 4
Y: Swing 4
M: Token 5
Y: Swing 5
M: Token 6
Y: If you swing, I make two tokens and block, everything dies.
You are correct that this should be 4-1, though. When you go first, You outrace the blockers by 1 turn.

Quote from Lone Warrior »
I think the fundamental card here to ban is Scavenger. Scavenger/Capsize is more powerful then Rage in that you nullify any type of removal against the Toad.Arc Lightning is "fixed", but it just speeds up the deck only a turn faster.
Capsize isn't really effective at defending the Scavenger. If you cast Capsize, you've just used your Lotus. Then you don't have the Lotus to recast Scavenger
The Arc Lightning version is pretty much inferior to Lavaborn Muse except against select decks.
The difference is, there are so many ways to hurt Scavenger (ALL Lotus hate, all creature hate that isn't black). What Rage does that others doesn't is that Rage makes pretty much every deck that DOESN'T hate you is an auto-win. Capsize is good, but a lot of decks with no Lotus/Creature hate can still find a way around it.

NOTE TO ALL: The 3CB page has moved, and now it is without ads! :D!

1. Goblinboy: Crack the Earth; Taiga; Thallid
In Theatres This Summer
A good ol' Crack deck. <3. Thankfully, there turned out to be quite a few storage land decks this week.
2. billking: Hickory Woodlot; Tempting Wurm; Tempting Wurm
Biggs and Wedge
A very good deck. I like it. There's always that anamoly that you see when someone plays a Dreadnought only to have it StP'd. This gets around it and thus has a distinct advantage. Slower, though, and that's a pain.
3. jcsuperstar: Black Lotus; Nether Spirit; Pox
"Ban Pox"
This one draws more often than the Last Rites version, but that isn't a bad thing when those draws come from losses. Nice pick.
4. non_the_road: Boomerang; City of Traitors; Isochron Scepter
Draw!
MISE!... er.... nice deck. Too many decks have the ability to nix Scepter to give you an across-the-board Mise, but really, how often does that happen, especially with 39 players?
5. Quilt: Arcbound Slith; Mishra's Workshop; Sphere of Resistance
The Getaway
Nice build. I've always liked these, but holes in the curve hurt them. Slith is a good pick; it forces a lot of draws.
6. aurorasparrow: Bringer of the Red Dawn; Mercadian Bazaar; Stronghold Gambit
bringer!.dec
Wow! Nice tech, there. This could become a popular deck.
7. Dusk_: Aftershock; Orcish Lumberjack; Taiga
Ripple Effect
I like the Desert Twister-ish style here. Deals with a lot of stuff. Sadly, deals with it at sorcery speed.
8. Magikeeper: Black Lotus; Force of Will; Thalakos Dreamsower
Unrelenting Dream. Dec
Awesome tech here. Thalakos Dreamsower is sure to become a staple. A+ on design.
9. Chrome Moxen: Black Lotus; Black Lotus; Spiritmonger
i am the eye of the tiger
Yep... Spiritmonger.
10. Kenji: Ensnaring Bridge; Subterranean Hangar; Swamp Mosquito
Fly my pretty, fly!
Original list here. Bridge is always a good choice, and it's not shabby on turn 5 either. Mosquito, of course, is the requisite sidekick.
11. Shadowlord: Black Lotus; Nether Spirit; Pox
Chinpokomon
See jcsuperstar
12. bateleur: City of Traitors; Energy Chamber; Ornithopter
One Fat Helicopter
Vebulid is not a bad card in 3CB. This is like a Vebulid that can attack each turn. The drawback, of course, is that it takes up your whole deck. Certainly original.
13. epeeguy: Black Lotus; Island Sanctuary; Tethered Griffin
Griffin's Nest
Always a good, quick-winning lock deck. Nice pick.
14. spuzzem king: Black Lotus; Blood Moon; Treasure Hunter
hunting for the moon
I like this deck more every time I see it. It just works well. I do wonder if there's a better card to do the same job than Blood Moon, but I can't think of one.
15. CynicalSquirrel: City of Traitors; Culling Scales; Mishra's Factory
I suck at coming up with names... .dec
Standard Scales/Factory. Hurt by the number of high-cost spells running about, but still effective.
16. DragonDude2004: Black Lotus; Shizuko, Caller of Autumn; Words of Wilding
Winnie the Pooh comin to beat you
Shizuko's been tried almost every week since BoK's legality, and it's been inferior to Treasure Hunter pretty much every time. This may be the exception. I think you may have hit a viable Shizuko list here.
17. Kheoinn: Drop of Honey; Eladamri's Vineyard; Treetop Village
Jungle Boogie
The Drop is a very nice touch that fits well with the deck. Nice build.
18. SorryGuy: Rogue Elephant; Savannah; Swords to Plowshares
Why must I be stupid with my title for a deck that will stand out? I do not know I guess i just feel like it. So my deck is name in addition to the examplation of my deck name is deck name.dec
The inability to cast Rogue Elephant without losing Swords potential really hurt you. Perhaps Seal of Removal would work better here.
19. Lone Warrior: Lavaborn Muse; Mercadian Bazaar; The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
Another One Bites the Dust.dec
Storage Land/Creature/Tabernacle always works somewhat clunky, but this list works, somewhat. Because it can't be eternally stalled, Muse is probably the most fitting creature for this awkward plan.
20. Nazgul_Master: Ferropede; Mishra's Workshop; Trinisphere
Ice Cold Fever
I'm glad my deck is catching on Anyway, this is a nice pick for this week. Lots of storage lands. Lots of Loti and Cities that get hammered by the 3Sphere.
21. Nazdakka: Chimeric Idol; Mishra's Workshop; The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
Pendrell Vale-ue Store
Probably the best situation to be in with a Tabernacle is to have a creature of your own. However, the Tabernacle doesn't like that. This gets around that. Nice job.
22. Dragon_Master: Daze; Thallid; Tropical Island
save 15% on car insurance!
Standard Not Bodyroc list here. Always a good pick.
23. KeeperEUSC: City of Traitors; Fire/Ice; Isochron Scepter
Dual Staff of DOOM.dec
Ahhh, Fire/Ice on a stick.
Digging for points with relics
Sentry yet again shows its colors. I like this deck.
28. Bluemage76: Caustic Tar; Subterranean Hangar; The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
Fade's T3ch
Interesting to see this deck's performance outside of a fixed metagame. Not bad for such a limited deck.
29. Alfred: Avarice Totem; Mercadian Bazaar; Mishra's Factory
Prince Al
A very, very, very interesting list. I do wonder if Confiscate might have been better, but really the opponent couldn't pay the 5 most of the time.
30. Greebo: Chimeric Idol; Mishra's Workshop; Trinisphere
Heavy Metal Incorporated
A good list, naturally. Sadly, there weren't as many Tabernacles to dodge this time, but it's not silly to think that there might have been. Good picks in that respect.
31. help im a bug: Pendelhaven; Scryb Sprites; Thallid
Socks
An interesting dual-threat deck. Pendelhaven really helps here, but does it help as much as Daze would have?
32. r_x_: Elves of Deep Shadow; Tinder Farm; Vindicate
Farm Elves Will Fall To The Dark Side.dec
Vindicate is such a strong spell in this format it's always surprising when someone is able to pull of casting it. Nice job.
33. halinn: Black Lotus; Solitary Confinement; Squee, Goblin Nabob
Draw,
goA fun Mise deck (well... not totally... I suppose you COULD hardcast the Squee). Did what it was supposed to do.
34. Unstable: Eladamri's Vineyard; The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale; Treetop Village
tets.dec
Classic TETs. The meta was more prepared for it this time, but not entirely. Nice pick
35. wonkey_donkey: Karakas; Mercadian Bazaar; Starke of Rath
Starsky.dec
Always a good deck for a slow metagame, which this appears to be.
36. Stax: Crack the Earth; Mountain; Roc Hatchling
Roc Out!
A slower, yet more resilient version of Crack than the Thallid one. Never a bad idea to try.
37. Whamme: Energy Field; Palinchron; Saprazzan Cove
[Saga had so many cards that deserved more play time...]
Palinchron is a very interesting pick here. I like it. It gives you more protection versus removal assuming that the Field takes care of the win condition, which it often does.
38. Fadeblue: Darksteel Reactor; Energy Field; Saprazzan Cove
Haven'tBeenFollowingTheMetagame
Likely not as good as Tongs would have been, given the low number of Sphere/Trinisphere type decks running around.
Army of Justice
Still an interesting deck. It's got a lot going for it, but extreme slowness against it.
42. NavyJoe: Black Lotus; Elephant Guide; Treasure Hunter
Treasure Map
An interesting deck. A turn 1 5/5 isn't terribly impressive, but a backup 3/3 is.
43. ImAtHome: Anurid Scavenger; Black Lotus; Misguided Rage
HoorayForStax!.dec
Standard Goodery Nice pick, as it always is.
44. Quadro: Black Lotus; Jinxed Idol; Spark Elemental
The Test That Stumped Them All
A very interesting list. A little low on the defense, but still decent on the clock speed. Sadly, auto-loses to any deck that can play a creature. That's unfortunate.
45. Froggystyle: Black Lotus; Channel; Darksteel Colossus

POTM TROPHY THINGAMAJIGGER
I realized that I'd never seen a Trivia/Games/Contests thread give out real-world prizes for their online games. I thought it might be interesting to try out.
So, every POTM winner (including, retroactively, Dusk_ and Fadeblue) will recieve (assuming they're willing to give me their adress) a customized 3CB trophy. It will be a card from my collection which somehow fits you and will have written on it "3CB POTM WINNER!" and the date.
It's nothing you could sell on eBay but it should be fun nonetheless.
(I'm still working on these)

Also, everyone, Listen Up:
New format for suggesting corrections:
I'd sincerely appreciate all suggestions being in that format. Having the decklist of what I'm correcting in the post makes things 100% easier for me. Thanks.
ANYway,
Feel free to discuss this week's and next week's 3CB in this thread and post any questions you may have! Good Luck!

Spock is not portrayed correctly. If Vulcans are above petty emotions, what motivates him to join the most elite starship crew in the galaxy? I, on the other hand, have transcended the weakness of emotion and achieved a blissful lack of caring. Apathy is my strength, our strength, which prevents us from being all-to-human. Yeah, I think we should ban the Rage.
Player#2 - NavyJoe - Black Lotus, Elephant Guide, Treasure Hunter
Current Match Score - 2-2
Suggested Match Score 0-6
Explain Why
You First:
Y: Taiga, Thallid
M: Lotus, Treasure Hunter, Lotus, Elephant Guide
Y: SC:1, Crack, Sac Hunter and get a 3/3, you sac Taiga
M: attack 3/3 (20/17)
Y: SC:2, attack (19/17)
M: attack (19/14)
Y: SC:3, attack (18/14), token
M: attack, now either you block w/ token or take 3, either way my 3/3 will out race your 1/1 with a blocker every 3 turns.
Me First:
Me: Treasure Hunter w/ Elephant Guide
You: Taiga, Thallid
Once again, I gain the life lead and my 3/3 will outrace your 1/1 w/ a blocker every 3rd turn.

Player#1 - Magikeeper - Black Lotus, Force of Will, Thalakos Dreamsower
Player#2 - NavyJoe - Black Lotus, Treasure Hunter, Elephant Guide
Current Match Score 6-0
Suggested Match Score 2-2
How does he win? If he drops the Dreamsower, he can't force of will my lotus/creature. If he Force of Wills my Lotus/Creature, he doesn't have a creature.
http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=519290
In other words, Dreamsower can keep one enemy creature tapped down indefinitely whilst continuing to deal damage.

Starke = 2 counters + needs to hit 10 times = 12 turns (actual kill on turn 14)
Tar = 6 counters + needs to hit 7 times = 13 turns (actual kill on turn 15)
Thus your kill is always going to be first. You're right, but it's actually quite complicated. It really comes down to the fact that Starke doesn't have haste, and thus, when he controls it, he can't have it kill itself before you can Karakas it. I think goblinboy forgot the switched-controllers-haste-rule thingie here.
And someone already got to NavyJoe.

15. CynicalSquirrel: City of Traitors; Culling Scales; Mishra's Factory

Greebo: Chimeric Idol; Mishra's Workshop; Trinisphere
vs.

But if I have to settle with Misguided Rage, that is fine. I've known the deck itself be broken since it first debuted, but meh...
BTW, I didn't win best deck title this week?! Wha?! Big frown to play on words =(

13. epeeguy: Black Lotus; Island Sanctuary; Tethered Griffin
vs.
29. Alfred: Mercadian Bazaar, Avarice Totem, Mishra's Factory
Tethered Griffin dies if he doesn't control an enchantment, so when I steal sanctuary with totem, griffin dies, and I win.

36. Stax: Crack the Earth; Mountain; Roc Hatchling
vs.
29. Alfred: Mercadian Bazaar, Avarice Totem, Mishra's Factory
This works on the same principle as my match versus Goblinboy, where I will play factory, and use totem to steal his creature.
I should now have 26 extra points.
I have to agree with him here! It is a card that is just fundamentally broken for CBs. I suck at this but i will keep trying! See ya guys next week!
Yep.
Oops ;). Lotus Stem used to be called Lotus Bouquet, but I switched them and I suppose I forgot to fix that. Fixed now.
:1mana:.
The main argument against banning is that the deck rolls to any type of creature destruction as well as any Lotus hate. It's also the only deck that rolls to Lotus hate going second OR first.
Dreamsower attacks and targets, then untaps (breaking the effect) and attacks again (recreating the effect) end result: Starke is incapacitated forever.
You are correct. I don't know what I was thinking here.
Correct you are. I tried to remember Karakas' protection capabilities. I suppose I was just tired by the end of it. Of course the complicated decks (totem, starke) come near the end, amirite?
Tar wins on turn 14 (Tar played and first activation turn 8, 6 more turns to win). Starke, since you can pay Tabernacle with Karakas, wins on turn 14 as well (cast turn 4, 10 to win) so you are correct.
Billking - you forgot that Tar can be played on the Tabernacle.
This was the most confusing matchup of the whole thing, so let me work this out.
*thinks*
Yep, forgot that under infinite mana you can recast Starke every turn. I thought that by forcing you to bounce him he could get enough time to kill with Factory.
I need only 6 turns to create 2 1/1s with which to gangblock and kill your 3/3 elephant token. This happens on turn 7. When I go first,
M: Taiga, Thallid
Y: Hunter/Guide
M: Token, Crack
Y: Swing 1 (need 7 total)
M: Token 2
Y: Swing 2
M: Token 3
Y: Swing 3
M: Token 4
Y: Swing 4
M: Token 5
Y: Swing 5
M: Token 6
Y: If you swing, I make two tokens and block, everything dies.
You are correct that this should be 4-1, though. When you go first, You outrace the blockers by 1 turn.
See above bit about Dreamsower. It can lock a creature and attack simultaneously.
Correct. Actually, I thought I wrote this down as a 2-2; I suppose that got screwed up. I forgot that you could sac the Totem to Crack.
Yep.
Looks good.
Yep. Don't know what it was I missed here.
Actually, that works going second too. 6-0 you. I've done this trick before, I suppose I just forgot.
Correct. Forgot about Factory playing Totem.
Correct you are. Admittedly, this was a very confusing matchup
Correct. I forgot that he can't kill the Factory with Jitte unless you activate it.
Correct. I thought I went back and corrected all the mistakes when I reread Sanctuary and found it not to be symmetrical, but I suppose I missed this one.
Correct you are.
Terribly sorry for all the mistakes, Alfred, but yours was the most complicated deck I've ever seen that didn't have Brand in it. And I had 44 chances to mess up
Capsize isn't really effective at defending the Scavenger.
Edit: From News:
Correct. I tend to forget about Ferropede removing other counters.

I forgot to mention. GB, if you ever catch me online, I would be more than happy to help you calculate matches. I may be a crappy CB player, but I'm pretty sure I can do that much. (I understand if you only want experianced players though) Anyway, I'm Obso1337Me on AIM and Yahoo!, so...<shrug>
