MY GOD. 44 entries. 44. Roll that number around on your tongue for a while. This is the largest 3CB of all time. I'm.. just... I'm... phew. Thanks to god child for calculating some matchups to save time.
Turns out I won last month's POTM the good news, however, is that I've finally got the first POTM prize!! Dusk_ and Fadeblue didn't want to give out their adresses, so this is going to reedofalethia/aurorasparrow. I had it sitting around, and Win98 doesn't work for iTunes . I hope you enjoy it; you should find it in your mailbox in a few days!

The Next Tournament
The next tournament starts right now and will be tabulated on the closing day. Entries will be closed Mar 13, 2005 at midnight PST and results will be posted soon thereafter
THE NEXT TOURNAMENT WILL BE A NORMAL FORMAT!!!
We haven't had a normal for at least two months. Time for a break. Created cards will start next week
PLAYER OF THE MONTH DETAILS
Ways to get points:
+X points for each point you get in a 3CB tournament (i.e. if you get 30 points in a tournament, you get 30 POTM points)
+10 points for winning a "Coolest Deck" title (I will no longer be eligible for this)
+5 points for winning a "Coolest Deck Name" title (I will no longer be eligible for this)
If you have any questions about this format, about the rules, or simply want to see some statistics about the game, visit www.basementdwellers.com/3cb The 3CB page!
On the page, you'll find this week's format, links to all the 3CB's, and all-time rankings.
[-----------------------------] POTM TROPHY THINGAMAJIGGER
I realized that I'd never seen a Trivia/Games/Contests thread give out real-world prizes for their online games. I thought it might be interesting to try out.
So, every POTM winner (including, retroactively, Dusk_ and Fadeblue) will recieve (assuming they're willing to give me their adress) a customized 3CB trophy. It will be a card from my collection which somehow fits you and will have written on it "3CB POTM WINNER!" and the date.
It's nothing you could sell on eBay but it should be fun nonetheless.
(I'm still working on these)

Explain Why
I'd sincerely appreciate all suggestions being in that format. Having the decklist of what I'm correcting in the post makes things 100% easier for me. Thanks.
ANYway,
Feel free to discuss this week's and next week's 3CB in this thread and post any questions you may have! Good Luck!
deari - good catch. The correct deck is up now. I switched after I transferred everything from the .doc to Hivemaster's program, but before I started doing matches.
By the way, 4CB set a record number of players as well this week (30). Not as much as 3CB, but enough that this might be my first time posting the results a day late
I'm sorry, I must have missed the threated on "Created cards will start in two weeks" what is this about or where is the thread that I can read up on it?
Remind me not to play a deck that gets a lot of draws. 44 players with up to 1 point extra apiece makes a huge swing. I didn't get 3 points from anyone. It was either 0, 1, 2, 4, or 6.
dashieff - thanks for pointing that out; it's actually next week now. Damn that copy/paste.
Anyway, "Created cards" is when I make up cards and you get to use them in 3CB. It's been done before.
And I forgot to add - r_x_: You might find it interesting to know the number of games that Stormscape Apprentice won you: 2. Of all the games you won, only going second against zorbop and first against Keeper were games which you won and Apprentice was why. Every other game you won, Duress did all the work and Merfolk of the Pearl Trident would have been the same outcome (Merfolk would have won some extra games as well; Underground Sea can survive a Tabernacle; Undiscovered Paradise can't). Of course, Apprentice gave you a bunch of draws, but only two wins.
Sorry to do this, but my deck had Rishadan Brigand, not Rishadan Cutpurse. I've found at least 3 matches where it made a difference; when I get the time I'll post suggested corrections.

Kenji - Since most decks can empty their hands on turn 1, disruption that doesn't work until turn 2 is fairly pointless.
bateleur - not quite. First of all, there were 3 Scavenger/Rage decks and 3 Vineyard/Tabernacle decks. Each of those only have to be calculated once, so it's like there were only 40 decks.
Then, once I've calculated one half of a match, the other calculates itself (If I know that X got 6 points vs Y, then Y obviously got 0 points vs. X), so that halves it as well.
Looking at the grid, the only matchups I have to calculate are those to the top/right of the line of Xs. As such, I have to do 39+38+37+36...etc. matches, which adds up to be 780 matches. Still a lot, but not 1936
One thousand, nine hundred and thirty six matches played...
That's very scary indeed.
Actually, it's only 946, not counting duplicates.
(Players do not play themselves, so it's 44*43, not 44 squared. Even then, that number is the number of results... the number of matches is half that, because there are two results per match. This gives 44*43/2, or 946.)
Spock is not portrayed correctly. If Vulcans are above petty emotions, what motivates him to join the most elite starship crew in the galaxy? I, on the other hand, have transcended the weakness of emotion and achieved a blissful lack of caring. Apathy is my strength, our strength, which prevents us from being all-to-human. In this spirit, may Meh be with you, always.
If he starts, he does his trick. He can only make me discard the Edict. I then play the Skirge on turn 2, kill the Rats the first time he attacks, then hold back. He can't attack again without me blocking and drawing the game.
If I start, I discard the Edict, untap and play the Skirge. If he attacks I block the Rats, take 2, then start racing at 3-2 from 20-18. I win 4-0. If he doesn't attack I start racing at 3-3 from 20-20 - again, I win.
If you play the skirge, he'll just attack with the treasure hunter. You can't block, or he'll beat you down with the rats.
It's time to start bringing your A-game guys! Scouts from the BLeague are looking at how well you do ;).
Anyways, I did decently well for my first time playing 3CB since #12 or so :-).

Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present.
Dragon_Master - your deck was good. Standard Rites/Sprit fare. Just do a forums search for "Chimpanzee Nether Spirit" and you'll see how often this deck gets played
DragonDude2003 - Your deck was actually a pretty good deck. You just ran into a metagame full of Swords to Plowshares, Tabernacles, Edicts, etc. It was just a bad metagame for you.

38 – aurorasparrow – Mox Emerald, Blinkmoth Nexus, Tempting Wurm
better than it looks.dec
Listed result: 3
Correct result: 6
No matter who starts this one, I win. If he plays the Wurm I Edict him before he untaps and it dies, and the Nexus alone cannot race or kill the Skirge - with only two mana sources, it can't pump itself and block. If he doesn't play the Wurm, I Edict him the first time he animates the Nexus to block and after that he can't play the Wurm any more.
Edit: Ohhhh. forgot about Wurm's drawback. Changing
If I start, I play Peat Bog. If he plays Lotus-Scavenger, I untap and Edict before going on to win with the Skirge as he can no longer Regress me. If he plays Lotus only, I untap and play Skirge; if he Regresses it I untap and play Skirge again to win, if he plays Scavenger I untap and Edict to win, if he does nothing I win.
If he starts, he plays Lotus-Scavenger. I play Peat Bog. He regrows Lotus, plays it and attacks for 3. I untap and Edict him so he can't win, but he still has a Lotus and can Regress the Skirge if I play it. Result - draw.
Great job Goblinboy! I would never have the patience for that.
However...
Corrections anyway!(Sorry)
33 – Ankh-Morporkian – Treetop Village, Eladamri’s Vineyard, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale(and 36 - Greebo and 40 - Froggystyle, since we have the same decks) vs.
17 – SALAd – Black Lotus, City of Traitors, Meloku, the Clouded Mirror
Current Score: 0-6
Suggested Score: 3-3
I believe I can race him if I go first, as such:
A1: Village(20-20)
S1: Meloku(20-20)
A2: Vineyard, Tabernacle(20-20)
S2: Upkeep pay for Meloku, burn for 1, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 2(18-18)
A3: Animate Village, attack(18-15)
S3: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(15-14)
A4: Animate Village, attack, blocked by token(15-12)
S4: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(12-11)
A5: Animate Village, attack, blocked by token(12-9)
S5: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(9-8)
A6: Animate Village, attack, blocked by token(9-6)
S6: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(6-5)
A7: Animate Village, attack, blocked by token(6-3)
S7: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(3-2)
A8: Animate Village, attack(3-0)
If he simply attacks with the token, leaving Meloku back to block, he burns for 1 a turn, while I take 1 a turn, and it looks basically the same.
33 – Ankh-Morporkian – Treetop Village, Eladamri’s Vineyard, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale(and 36 - Greebo and 40 - Froggystyle, since we have the same decks) vs.
31 – Chimpanzee – Black Lotus, Hammerheim, Horobi, Death’s Wail
Current Score: 0-6
Suggested Score: 3-3
He can't Hammerheim the Village, because he needs the mana to pay for Tabernacle, leading to the following race:
A1: Village(20-20)
C1: Horobi(20-20)
A2: Vineyard, Tabernacle(20-20)
C2: pay upkeep, burn for 2, attack for 4(16-18)
A3: Animate Village, attack(16-15)
C3: pay upkeep, burn for 2, attack for 4(12-13)
A4: Animate Village, attack(12-10)
C4: pay upkeep, burn for 2, attack for 4(8-8)
A5: Animate Village, attack(8-5)
C5: pay upkeep, burn for 2, attack for 4(4-3)
A6: Animate Village, attack(4-0)
All in all, however, great job:-) I can't believe you did all that. And now, you're going to add to that by doing the BLeague?? I feel a little sorry for you. Good Luck!:biggrin3:

POTM TROPHY THINGAMAJIGGER
I realized that I'd never seen a Trivia/Games/Contests thread give out real-world prizes for their online games. I thought it might be interesting to try out.
So, every POTM winner (including, retroactively, Dusk_ and Fadeblue) will recieve (assuming they're willing to give me their adress) a customized 3CB trophy. It will be a card from my collection which somehow fits you and will have written on it "3CB POTM WINNER!" and the date.
It's nothing you could sell on eBay but it should be fun nonetheless.
(I'm still working on these)

Also, everyone, Listen Up:
New format for suggesting corrections:
I'd sincerely appreciate all suggestions being in that format. Having the decklist of what I'm correcting in the post makes things 100% easier for me. Thanks.
ANYway,
Feel free to discuss this week's and next week's 3CB in this thread and post any questions you may have! Good Luck!

Are you sure you put the right deck down for yourself?
deari - good catch. The correct deck is up now. I switched after I transferred everything from the .doc to Hivemaster's program, but before I started doing matches.
-Goblinboy
-Goblinboy
It was fun though
Don't worry, I played it as Brigand.
What were the mistakes? (now they're actual mistakes, whoo! :p)
-Goblinboy
That's very scary indeed.

bateleur - not quite.

If you play the skirge, he'll just attack with the treasure hunter. You can't block, or he'll beat you down with the rats.
Anyways, I did decently well for my first time playing 3CB since #12 or so :-).

DragonDude2003 - Your deck was actually a pretty good deck. You just ran into a metagame full of Swords to Plowshares, Tabernacles, Edicts, etc. It was just a bad metagame for you.
Edit: Ohhhh. forgot about Wurm's drawback. Changing
You are correct on this one. Changing.

However...
Corrections anyway!(Sorry)
33 – Ankh-Morporkian – Treetop Village, Eladamri’s Vineyard, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale(and 36 - Greebo and 40 - Froggystyle, since we have the same decks) vs.
17 – SALAd – Black Lotus, City of Traitors, Meloku, the Clouded Mirror
Current Score: 0-6
Suggested Score: 3-3
I believe I can race him if I go first, as such:
A1: Village(20-20)
S1: Meloku(20-20)
A2: Vineyard, Tabernacle(20-20)
S2: Upkeep pay for Meloku, burn for 1, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 2(18-18)
A3: Animate Village, attack(18-15)
S3: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(15-14)
A4: Animate Village, attack, blocked by token(15-12)
S4: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(12-11)
A5: Animate Village, attack, blocked by token(12-9)
S5: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(9-8)
A6: Animate Village, attack, blocked by token(9-6)
S6: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(6-5)
A7: Animate Village, attack, blocked by token(6-3)
S7: Upkeep pay for Meloku and token, main phase make a token, burn for 1, attack for 3(3-2)
A8: Animate Village, attack(3-0)
If he simply attacks with the token, leaving Meloku back to block, he burns for 1 a turn, while I take 1 a turn, and it looks basically the same.
33 – Ankh-Morporkian – Treetop Village, Eladamri’s Vineyard, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale(and 36 - Greebo and 40 - Froggystyle, since we have the same decks) vs.
31 – Chimpanzee – Black Lotus, Hammerheim, Horobi, Death’s Wail
Current Score: 0-6
Suggested Score: 3-3
He can't Hammerheim the Village, because he needs the mana to pay for Tabernacle, leading to the following race:
A1: Village(20-20)
C1: Horobi(20-20)
A2: Vineyard, Tabernacle(20-20)
C2: pay upkeep, burn for 2, attack for 4(16-18)
A3: Animate Village, attack(16-15)
C3: pay upkeep, burn for 2, attack for 4(12-13)
A4: Animate Village, attack(12-10)
C4: pay upkeep, burn for 2, attack for 4(8-8)
A5: Animate Village, attack(8-5)
C5: pay upkeep, burn for 2, attack for 4(4-3)
A6: Animate Village, attack(4-0)

-Goblinboy
He can, but only the first time, then in his main phase he burns for 2, making it the same. After that, he needs the mana to pay for his non-summoning-sick token and his Meloku. I don't know...an ugly match. I'm not sure I did it right.
