Welcome to the Poetry Running Contest, the contest constantly open to anyone who loves poetry. If you wanna participate, you're in the right place!
This thread is only for poems submission. For questions about the rules, PM the PRC host, currently Crusible.
Submissions
Anyone can participate. There is no sign-up.
To participate, just post a poem. Any type of poetry is welcome, of any length.
You can only post one poem per round.
All the submissions beyond the first will be ignored.
Rounds
Each Monday the current round ends and a new round begins.
If 3 or fewer entries are submitted for a round, submission time for that round is extended until the next Monday.
The maximum number of poems per round is 12. Any poems submitted after the 12th will be saved for the next round.
Polls
Each Monday, the host will create a poll in the Personal Writing Forum with the submissions for the new round.
The poll is public and ends after 7 days (the next Monday).
Voting
Users who are participating for the current round in circulation MUST vote.
If you did NOT vote during the round your entry was submitted:
One vote will be deducted from your entry for the current round.
All future entries will automatically be disqualified until you vote on a future round.
NOTE: I will send "Remember to Vote" PMs to participants who have not voted late into the round. If I do not send a "Remember to Vote" PM within 24 hours before the round closing and the participant has not voted, the participant will not be put on "PRC Probation"; but, a vote will still be deducted from his current entry.
If you vote for three or more entries your votes will be null.
If you vote for yourself your poem will be disqualified.
Please follow the Honor Code when voting:
Give each poetry submission an equal opportunity in attaining your vote.
Read, or at least skim, all the entries before voting.
Do not vote for your friends just because they're your friends.
Winning
After the poll ends, the submission with most votes wins.
In case of a tie for most votes, all the tied submissions win.
After every three wins, the host will contact the Personal Writing Moderator(s), Nai or Talore, who will award a trophy to the winner.
Hosts
The host is responsible for
Opening and closing the rounds.
Posting the polls.
Updating the list of Winners and Winning Poems.
Contacting the Personal Writing Moderator(s), Nai or Talore, for trophies.
Updating and revising the rules.
The host can vote for the entries and participate in the contest.
If a host is no longer active, it should be replaced by a new user, after talking to the old one and posting about it in the Submission Thread.
Each new host is responsible for creating a new Submission Thread.

I wonder
How can cocoa taste so bitter
When its seeds can be so sweet in contrast
Its offspring: the chocolate
Has a delicate appeal as a ravenous chimera
It can feed the gods
For a whole era.
feeling, the one that never really leaves no matter where you are unless you are isolated alone in a room with just yourself and your thoughts, that forever thing waiting and stalking behind every bend and every corner, that incompetence that matches your insecurities and your fat to pain and torture, that resolves every happy thing into a massed blunt blur of nothingness,
that is right now
my mouth is full of winsome lies -
and eyes are full of death besides
but luckily the soul is wise -
it sees beyond my blindness and
forced failure makes a better guise,
so as i come again alive,
it feels like life's a decent plan
I want to sacrifice my weekend
On the altar of your existence
We'd nap and cuddle on a saturday-
Id try to make you food
But mostly i'd make you laugh
And let you pick the movies
we'd watch "The Notebook"
Eleven times in a row (except i
Would only watch the rhythm of
Your breathing and soak in
The vividness of your being)
We'd plan a nice sunday
And we'd have a ball and see a
Movie and you'd have vietnamese
For the first time and i'd just relax
For the first time and we'd make
Out in the towel sections of
Department stores and you
Would swear at me in spanish
And i'd stare at you in english
And i'd mangle my entire mindstate
Just to keep you till monday
Encircling its waist were clouds
painted red by the western sun.
Against its figure was the light
sinking into the ocean.
With its shadow alone, we felt a pall
cast on the greatest horizons,
to the highest mountains.
I'm sorry I'm late to be posting the polls and closing the rounds, but our city got a nice power outage due to the severe winter storms here and there in my state.
Also we got some frost and snow, which is uncommon, but is nice anyways.
Round 219 is closed. Round 220 is open until July 29th
I watch her silently. Her smile,
Fading away in the absurd.
She gives me Cancer
But I prefer Scorpio
She watches me back
But I'm already distant,
Over the mountains
She reluctantly expires
In Sagittarius
Behold
Her eyes, her thrill
The sky, the earth
The sound of the windmill
The water in which she mirrors
In Pisces.
Waltzing through the Zodiac
Her faint light
Is behind Gemini
She knows it is about time
But she made it through
Taurus enough.
If I look north I may see Virgo
You should find bleak
This gloomy prospect
Under her watchful glare
A sudden stare
Aries.
In ancient times she cast a spell
She made men bleed
Like an evil queen
She made you sick
Libra knows where it hurts
Between you and me.
The horizon
The end of the road
She is there, everywhere
And so I am
Moved by the tides
Aquarius.
Behold
A closing eye
An end of a tale
A glance of her silver
Is gold in the fable.
Capricorn.
Tell me a story about humpty dumpty
Tell me a story about a princess and
the dragon that held her in it's
wicked castle and tell me a story
about the knight that saved her
Tell me a story about a dozen horses
and a dozen men and a dozen surgeons
who for all their training and all their
raging couldn't put humpty dumpty
together again and for all their preparing
the rookie still remembers the way
his skull splintered and his eye bled
and tell me a story about how he
drinks to put his pieces together in bed
Tell me a story about a dispassionate noble
Tell me a story about an ancient, mysterious
dragon and tell me a story about how they
Entwined their paths and how, for all the dragon's
wealth and for all the dragon's horde it could
not buy a friend, nor could it keep the one
that it stole, and for all the beast's might
it could not ward off that noble knight.
Tell me a story about the glorified vet.
Tell me a story about the war front and death
and the battles he fled from and the rivers that
run with the blood of his brothers and the
blood of his country and how his nobleman's
ideals spill drunkenly over the conquered maiden
Tell me a story about coming to america
Tell me a story about running for office
Tell me a story about being a cop in
Inner city Albuquerque in the early 2000's
Tell me a story about how "Indian School Road"
Got it's name and tell me a story about
The nobility of Custer and tell me a story
About a future of robocops in every phone
and laptop and TV and tell me a story
about the lawyer who trademarked a gene and
Tell me a goddamn story
About someone who succeeded
Tell me a story
About someone who made it out,
About someone who conquered evil
with their virtues and their sanity intact,
Tell me a story about a hero and his guilt
Ma, tell me a mother****ing story for chrissakes-
I gotta grow up some day.
They say white is the new black...
well look at me so unfashionable, mucking up a perfectly good trend
Ransacking the blank page i often stare at for hours.
Inspiration truly is wrapped neatly in a tragedy's bow.
And who would i be to becon such a karmic caper, to a perfectly fine, and boring party?
Drama queen?
Glutton for punishment?
Artistic Masochist?
Perhaps when bad things happen to creative people... it's simply Poetic Justice.
All is right in the world... when all is wrong in my world.
Where is my bridegroom
my light and knowledge?
I tried to breach His understanding
and paid dearly for overreaching.
I fell to this world
full of despair and fear
My only comfort a little lamb
who created many beautiful things
through my consent,
unaware of my presence.
He will save me, I know
ushering this world with us
through the understanding
of his divine light
like great yeti monsters
the whiteness surrounded us
all the trappings of privilege
an imperialist omnibus
inescaped obscurity
such privileged maturity
to be able to hide
in those little white lies
and not fathom all of life's excessive absurdity
when we open our mouth
the soundwaves are all fog
no cogent explanation
or illustrative logs
when we shook out our brain
all the little white stains
excrete bleach and pain
spit up in lines to blame
all the bleach guzzled down
'round the fog-obscured town
all the whiteness so spotless
the dreaminess thoughtless
my mouth is full of winsome lies -
and eyes are full of death besides
but luckily the soul is wise -
it sees beyond my blindness and
forced failure makes a better guise,
so as i come again alive,
it feels like life's a decent plan
They said it had snowed,
when I was asleep. Hailed,
then rained. There wasn’t
a lot of it, not much
at least, to make the short grass
white, or cover the streets
and earth.
And when I woke, the sky
wasn’t gray, and, certainly,
the sun was out. I saw
a wet world, but everything looked
like it had been burned. Small
black pools reflecting the roads
seemed so much like tar. The land
was mud and the trees
were greenless,
without leaves. Over the horizon,
a lone, faded cloud
stretched across the sun.
Seeing the day burned
behind that mass, I thought
it was smoke from a furnace
far away that had been locked
and buried in a hole in the ground;
that those ashes in the air
came from a repressed anger
whose origins we may never know.
Would you ever dive into the blackness of your computer screen?
Would you ever lunge, headfirst into the pulsing of your veins?
Would you ever drown yourself in the swelling of an orchestra?
Would you ever swing, vine by vine by vine, through your tearing muscle fibers?
Would you ever scream until your throat bleeds with the song of an angel?
Would you ever scream until your rage came unhinged and no longer needed
the justification of a politician or a boss or a traffic jam and
Would you ever scream until the emotion stood alone and
Would you ever dance with your demons in the moonlight?
Would you waltz with the alcohol
and jitterbug with the weed?
Would you two step with lies
and square dance with greed?
Would you shadow-box the loneliness,
and find peace in struggle?
Would you permit yourself to become lost in that vast tableau of life;
the breadcrumbs leading you only ever on into the future,
into the basement of your dropout, unshaven soul?
Would you crack a window and breathe in the smog of your future?
Would you sniff the heady mix of crack smoke and New Jersey fumes, breathe deep,
shake your arms and stretch your legs and proclaim,
"What a nice day for a jog."
Would you ever stare into the abyss until the abyss blinks back tears and
sobs, gently into your ears that there is 'just too much'
Then glibly smile and nod and reply, with all the certainty of a gambler
betting on the chamber of a bullet-
"What a nice day for a jog."
Would you ever: give up give in surrender quit go home leave abandon hope and die
on the altar of God's last hope-
And choose to Win anyway?
And if you did-
Would you be be able to stop yourself from stopping yourself?

"A fantastic approach!"
said the little cockroach
"We will pit them against one another!
Black against white, brother against brother!"
"They'll never suspect the little guys
when they've loosed all their bombs
and the last human dies!"
I wonder
How can cocoa taste so bitter
When its seeds can be so sweet in contrast
Its offspring: the chocolate
Has a delicate appeal as a ravenous chimera
It can feed the gods
For a whole era.

that grin is a fantastic rupture
a roulette to my Russia
adrenaline; you are a rush of
butterflies and cold tea
numbs me to a stiff reality
since we could never be
time, she plays a cruel mistress
and knows too well of distress
for my pain is her eustress
and she loves to hear "please"
yet no matter how much i'd plead
her ears fall deaf to these pleas
so practice good karma in lieu of good hopes
and shed expectations before they grow
for knowledge is pain - it hurts to know
that a caricature of my past wanting
is delivered to this present setting
and there's no future treading
the fine lines of a possibility called us
The fridge door closes
casting darkness on
the empty shelves
where food should be.
Broken glass
fills the freezer
from a forgotten bottle
a friend filled with water
before leaving.
My cabinets also echo
the same refrain:
"no food to find here,
we are empty like you"

feeling, the one that never really leaves no matter where you are unless you are isolated alone in a room with just yourself and your thoughts, that forever thing waiting and stalking behind every bend and every corner, that incompetence that matches your insecurities and your fat to pain and torture, that resolves every happy thing into a massed blunt blur of nothingness,
that is right now
and eyes are full of death besides
but luckily the soul is wise -
it sees beyond my blindness and
forced failure makes a better guise,
so as i come again alive,
it feels like life's a decent plan
an ugly misshapen yam
it is a hardy thing, growing
in the shadow of the mountain
I pluck the yam with my fingers
ugly, shriveled, soot-stained fingers
dawn or dusk, forever darkened
by the shadow of the mountain
under moon and star, we betrayed
how many of us remember?
do they remember golden light?
or who the anticipations were?
it's our nature to be knocked out
to thirst for dominion over
our destinies, but what of our dreams?
the dreamer is awakening
On the altar of your existence
We'd nap and cuddle on a saturday-
Id try to make you food
But mostly i'd make you laugh
And let you pick the movies
we'd watch "The Notebook"
Eleven times in a row (except i
Would only watch the rhythm of
Your breathing and soak in
The vividness of your being)
We'd plan a nice sunday
And we'd have a ball and see a
Movie and you'd have vietnamese
For the first time and i'd just relax
For the first time and we'd make
Out in the towel sections of
Department stores and you
Would swear at me in spanish
And i'd stare at you in english
And i'd mangle my entire mindstate
Just to keep you till monday

Encircling its waist were clouds
painted red by the western sun.
Against its figure was the light
sinking into the ocean.
With its shadow alone, we felt a pall
cast on the greatest horizons,
to the highest mountains.
Rotted wood piled up in pyres
The embers dance across
Pitch black sky

collar bone, collar bone
where do your curves flow?
down to the ground
where billows your ball gown?
or up the nape to frame
your frown, its disdain?
collar bone, collar bone
I know where your curves flow
they flow in my gaze
a pervert's highest praise
I watch her silently. Her smile,
Fading away in the absurd.
She gives me Cancer
But I prefer Scorpio
She watches me back
But I'm already distant,
Over the mountains
She reluctantly expires
In Sagittarius
Behold
Her eyes, her thrill
The sky, the earth
The sound of the windmill
The water in which she mirrors
In Pisces.
Waltzing through the Zodiac
Her faint light
Is behind Gemini
She knows it is about time
But she made it through
Taurus enough.
If I look north I may see Virgo
You should find bleak
This gloomy prospect
Under her watchful glare
A sudden stare
Aries.
In ancient times she cast a spell
She made men bleed
Like an evil queen
She made you sick
Libra knows where it hurts
Between you and me.
The horizon
The end of the road
She is there, everywhere
And so I am
Moved by the tides
Aquarius.
Behold
A closing eye
An end of a tale
A glance of her silver
Is gold in the fable.
Capricorn.
The moon wanes
And with her spell,
Leo.

They say white is the new black...
well look at me so unfashionable, mucking up a perfectly good trend
Ransacking the blank page i often stare at for hours.
Inspiration truly is wrapped neatly in a tragedy's bow.
And who would i be to becon such a karmic caper, to a perfectly fine, and boring party?
Drama queen?
Glutton for punishment?
Artistic Masochist?
Perhaps when bad things happen to creative people... it's simply Poetic Justice.
All is right in the world... when all is wrong in my world.

Where is my bridegroom
my light and knowledge?
I tried to breach His understanding
and paid dearly for overreaching.
I fell to this world
full of despair and fear
My only comfort a little lamb
who created many beautiful things
through my consent,
unaware of my presence.
He will save me, I know
ushering this world with us
through the understanding
of his divine light
Once again we will
dance with the logos.
I wrote a story
and now it's gone.
It disappeared,
what have they done?
It was fantastic,
it spoke of greed
and of betrayal,
and doubtful deeds.
The man in charge
was full of contempt
and even though he
used to be a friend
he killed my story
and threw me into jail.

Dear friends
Dear friends,
Consider it paid
Buds bloom but the stem itself never does
Semiotics seldom impress me,
Consider it gold.
Your lives are lost,
Your days will never end
Here, under my embrace, giving me some peace.
Water inside jars should quench your veins.
Cut the fingers to see the color blend
Floating wine in water to crimson end
Come see me in the gardens
I'm spilling water over the graves.

like great yeti monsters
the whiteness surrounded us
all the trappings of privilege
an imperialist omnibus
inescaped obscurity
such privileged maturity
to be able to hide
in those little white lies
and not fathom all of life's excessive absurdity
when we open our mouth
the soundwaves are all fog
no cogent explanation
or illustrative logs
when we shook out our brain
all the little white stains
excrete bleach and pain
spit up in lines to blame
all the bleach guzzled down
'round the fog-obscured town
all the whiteness so spotless
the dreaminess thoughtless
and eyes are full of death besides
but luckily the soul is wise -
it sees beyond my blindness and
forced failure makes a better guise,
so as i come again alive,
it feels like life's a decent plan
when I was asleep. Hailed,
then rained. There wasn’t
a lot of it, not much
at least, to make the short grass
white, or cover the streets
and earth.
And when I woke, the sky
wasn’t gray, and, certainly,
the sun was out. I saw
a wet world, but everything looked
like it had been burned. Small
black pools reflecting the roads
seemed so much like tar. The land
was mud and the trees
were greenless,
without leaves. Over the horizon,
a lone, faded cloud
stretched across the sun.
Seeing the day burned
behind that mass, I thought
it was smoke from a furnace
far away that had been locked
and buried in a hole in the ground;
that those ashes in the air
came from a repressed anger
whose origins we may never know.
Would you permit yourself to become lost in that vast tableau of life;
the breadcrumbs leading you only ever on into the future,
into the basement of your dropout, unshaven soul?
