Chapter 1- A Simple Introduction (May x, 2004)
Time was running out at a swifter pace then he'd imagined. The plague he bore was draining, and in fact had taken so much from him that the pressure of failure once again reared its unwelcome grin. Although being the definition of clutch, he never enjoyed the idea of any action he took being considered mandatory. No, his will was his own and that was in all cases. His competitive drive would kick in, of that he was sure, but how much longer could he simply 'get by'?
Senior-itis were the echoes in the hallways, and the communicable virus was as contagious as word of it. He too had fallen victim this final year of high school, and the decline couldn't have been more obvious. In the previous year, he made a personal pact to prove to his fellow classmates that his intellect was top notch, and his intelligence was of a similar pinnacle. Blaine Conner had finished junior year with a 3.9 GPA weighted, and seemed to be pleased enough with that accomplishment to ease up for his senior campaign. Football and a love life were tiring enough to continue persuing such feeble tasks as worksheets and graphs, especially when a position at a prestigious college was guaranteed to him. In a world where association was everything, Blaine had made a few friends in his lifetime.
But one friend had become much more than that, and her vision walking towards him today was like a sign that things would be alright if he kept driving forward. Her flowing brunette locks reminded him of the tranquility brought by the falling leaves, which in turn brought memories of the day they met. She walked as she talked to her two best friends, not realizing how beautiful she was when she laughed and how the hallway became a frozen glacier-- everyone staring at her without a breath to take.
"Hey there!" Jewels said, as she fell forward into his arms. The hallway instantly regained motion as she heated up his tall, machine like frame. He nodded to Caitlin and Steph (the completion of the trio, and one of Blaine's ex-lady aquaintence), and kissed his good luck charm hard on the fore head, and then the lips. She wasn't big on public displays of affection, but he'd convinced her a greeting and parting kiss wasn't so painful, and she agree in retrospect.
"I've got work today, but i'll drop by afterwards before i head go play pool with the guys. What are you doing for the next hour though?" Blaine was one for getting straight to the point, especially when dealing with the Twin Teens (her completed trio). They always had a plan, and it somehow always involved Jewels being yanked away from Blaine for the short amount of time he had before work.
As Jewels turned her heads slowly to her back, where the friends stood ready in brick wall formation B with arms folded and eyebrows raised. It was Caitlin's gaze that was the killer though, and probably something that had attracted him to her some time ago. A shame for such a decent, intelligent girl to be such a control freak, but everyone had some flaw. If Jewels caught her eyes then he knew he'd be going to work sullen and defeated by her decision not to hang out beforehand. With a touch of the chin, he turned her to kiss him, which was totally going to make her mad if she didn't fall for the act. As he felt a flicker of tongue, he knew the bait was taken. After breaking off the bond, Jewels took his hand and walked down the hallway and out of the Douserton High.

Embraces symbolize a great many things in our culture. They symbolize love, they symbolize fear, and so on and so on. But here, it was the want to never be apart, which was quite unrealistic. They held each other in the moonlight hoping somehow the moment could last if not forever, then just a few days...
This is the beginning to the short story i'm writing, Thread titled. It's about a man who had it all and lost it all, and a boy of similar circumstance.
