Bullets whiz by your head. The man next to you gets hit, he’s only a kid. You stop to rest and get yourself together. You think about what your father taught you when you were younger. That was true then, God, morals, goodness, the entire package. They were true before the war, but now all that is gone. But how can truth change? How can reality change from day to day? Truth can be literal, things that happened. If you were there you would have seen it. But spiritual truth exists too, it can’t be seen. You don’t just have to be there to know these truths, you have to immense yourself in what happened. The entirety if perception. Flooded emotions and a cold voice in your head fight for control.
Literal truths are every day truths: apples are red, she’s got red hair, he’s annoying when he talks about his philosophical notions. A truth like this can’t change, what true today is true tomorrow. People might change, as con most anything else. A man might be an ass one day and nice the next, but he always will have been an ass., if only for one day. One man’s literal truth is another’s. Literal truth is objective, if two people disagree about a literal fact, then either one or both of them are wrong. These truth’s are universal.
But spiritual truths are different, they can’t be told like a literal truth, “He was acting like an ass” doesn’t convey the spiritual truth. Even the most complex literal truths can be expressed with only other literal truths, but spiritual truths require literal lies to be shared. No amount of explaining what really happened will give a spiritual truth anything more then a passing nod. In order to tell the truth you need to shock the listener to the point that they can see what you see, understand what you saw. Even if they don’t understand what really happened, they’ll know what you think happened.
A bullet whizzes by, this time too close for you not to notice, you pick yourself up and advance, leaving the truth behind so you can try to find it again.
