Ah, so it appears the Personal Writing forum has finally been created, thanks to the mods, I urge you all to post and review the works of others, this main forum should be a place for you to post your individual poetry, and short stories, with great places for fanfics in the subforums...
Here's a poem I made for some lame poetry challenge to make a poem in honor of New Orleans and this whole shindig, so I made this jab; certainly not one of my best.
Katrina
Is God jealous of freedom and mortality?
Doomed to rule forever over the meek?
Or is it our own foolish ways, the ones we love to keep.
Keeping, running, deeply throughout life and misery.
Is this a damned land? A cursed place?
Is fate a bitter harpy?
Are we doomed forever to tear at the face of our own begotten deities?
Such question echo among the halls of man as floods of water cleanse
As a trident comes upon the land and spears through the land of men.
The wind is no evil, and neither the water that flows
There is no good, is no evil, we are irrelevant
A species in its death throes
We curse our fate and then forget it
We see our misery take hold, yet we let it.
As people loot, oh what a splendid time to dine
To view the true qualities of the base core of mankind.
For now we sob and fret and cry over an “act of God”
And then call upon him once more, as new seeds of man we sod.
We preoccupy ourselves with compassion, hate and other meaningless thoughts
And forget the fairest fact upon the land, that happiness can be bought.
So buy your way into love today, and lust and divine things
For soon after this fair and fatal storm our memory shall rescind
On disaster and the fleeting "love" and "charity" it brings.
