Recently, there has been a discussion in the creativity section about our lack of imagination in creating signatures. Simple blending seems to be the trend on MTGSalvation and I'd like to see a little variety this week.
Taking a cue from other forums, the sizes will be different and an optional animation will be allowed. Be mindful of the filesize limits, since they did not change for this week's contest.
Theme: Create a banner and avatar set using art from a single magic card, the avatar may use different art (but you cannot use both together).
Medium: 400 x 130 or smaller banner (optional animation 500kb) AND an avatar 75 x 75 pixels (animation allowance 40kb).
Sounds fun, I think this theam may have something to do with that thread by redemption.
However I still think this will be a fun contest to do.

I want to do an animation for the avatar, and I can, but I'm having trouble with the timing, I set the length to 1 second in the doc settings (it's a fast animation), but when previewed in "Save for Web/Devices" The length is set to 7 seconds... Short of setting the animation to 5 frames or something, does anyone know how to speed this up to the time I want? It's supposed to be more shaky, but its definitely not as is with the animation this slow.
EDIT: Apparently this animation slowing only happens when viewed in Google Chrome... But checking my avatar in both browsers shows the animation speed is the same... Anyone know why this is? Also, the animation speed in photoshop being set to 7 seconds is clearly off, since it plays like I want it to in Firefox...
That's pretty nice for a first-time entry. Only one problem that I can see is that the text is a little odd. Don't get used to doing that color change, as it looks wierd. Try giving the font a border, which helps it stand out no matter the background.

They can't even comprehend nature. How could they improve it?

Thanks! I took your advice, and also changed the border a bit. Jury rigged to look like the actual frame isn't bad I suppose, but I can't really find a blend style that makes the beveling look like the actual thing. /shrug. I suppose I could've cut the entire border and shrunk it, but this is about as good as it gets I think.
No word on the framerate/animation length problems?
I use GIMP, not photoshop, so I can't really help you there. I use firefox, and it looks fine, but in Safari it seems to be slow as you said. I hope that helped...

I did a little bit of research, and it appears some browsers default all .gif images to 10FPS... That appears to explain the slowness in Chrome and IE, and the normal speed in FF, but not the fact that Photoshop says the animation is 7 seconds long, as it clearly is not.

I'm stumped.
Magic Cards. =] I forget where I got it though. =/
Anyone know how to make a more realistic rip/tear effect with Photoshop? I didn't quite the effect I wanted for my avatar.
EDIT: Oops, avatar came out with a white background. Should be better now.

Someday, I will find the time to move things into ImageReady and animate....
