As some of you may have seen Nex3 has decided to move on from MTGSalvation. He has manned this contest and many more here on 'Salvation for months. As one final tribute to the work which he has done here this week's theme will be to create a static banner and static avatar for him. I understand some of you may reject this as this was already done on 'News and as he will not have a chance to use them. However, I feel it is the best we can do and I am sure Nex would be happy to leave his profile with whatever we create for him.
Simple entry on my behalf... gbye nex3, sad to see ya leave
I do not mean to be a jerk but the requested medium was a static avatar and banner, not animated. Seeing as looking back I should have made it say static banner and static avatar your entry is acceptable. I will change the first post so that it allows it. In case Spiral wants to make his avatar animated he may do so.
Apologies for being unclear, I will attempt to make everything very clear in the future.
I can change it if you want, no harm by me... to be honest I thought you just meant static banner, not avatar... as it is usually the norm in these cases.
In any case I have tons of time ahead of me to do another one and that way I won't ruin the contest for others, mea culpa
I didn't want to inconvenience you but if you do indeed have the time it would be preferable. I do realize animated is usually the medium but I have noticed and just confirmed with Nex that he prefers static. Seeing as I expect he will one day use one of these sets I figure it would be best for the avatars to fit with that.
Once more sorry for not being clear and thank you for being so willing and flexible.

I'll explain the banner. The art is Magus of the Jar, meaning Memory jar. That's why I put the "Vanished Into Memory" there. I also chose the Magus art because we have no idea what nex looks like and you can't see this guy's face.
Thanks Craven. I should have thought about that.
Anway i'm too and not allowed to fix......but i'll post it up jsut for reference
Maybe somebody can help me. When i added the border it added it on to my orginal size so i became to big. How can i make the border so it goes already on my sized image and i dont haveto make a smaller so the border fits. Does anybody get what I'm saying
This week is yet again brought to you by the GIMP (v. 2.3.11 development series).
The Banner:
The Avvy:
Inspiration: Well, I've known Nex for a while through here and MTGNews. We were fellow staffers at MTGNews (both Techies for a bit) and we're both interested into technical things. We both use Ubuntu Linux, and we're both long-time participants in this contest (though we've both been away from 'shopping for a while). He's a cool chap for the most part, and I thought the best way to pay tribute to him was to wrap it up in one nice package. He really is a jack of all trades - nice web designer, great photoshopper, well-spoken debater... You name it. So, here we are.
Ok shrink selected the area i wanted
then i used ctrl+I and then the outside of my banner then i took paint bucket and started to fill in but it didn't fill inthe whole area as once for my border it only fileld in stuff of the same color is that supposed to happen.

So, if you will, hop to it.
I didn't enter on 'news, so i'll enter this one.
I'm just AHEAD OF THE CURVE YO
(I'll make a new one soon maybe.)

Sorry to see you go Nex3, you ran one heck of a contest!
BTW guys, the word is PIGEON, not PIDGEON. You might want to update your banners.
My Entry:
I doubt any of the "Pigeon" ones will be duplicated anymore.
Fairly simple entry from me.

Working on my entry. You'll loove it.

Question: Would it be really awkward if I used my avvy? Cuz it just says Nex3... but it fits with my banner

Also because it was cool art and NEX IS COOL!

I am planning on ending it on Sunday so that our schedule can get back on track. However, if anyone asks for an extension I will likely be lenient.

Create a new layer above everything else.
Ctrl+A to select all.
Select > Contract. Choose the # of pixels to decrease the size of the selection.
Ctrl+I to invert the selection.
Use the bucket to fill the new selection.
Enjoy your border.

Nah it's shrink.
I just have Photoshop to GIMP transition syndrome (it's contract in Photoshop).
