In the tradition of the Digital 56k Beware & the Cube Forum Make-A-Proxy threads, this thread is for posting digital renders of Magic cards, either existing or unpublished. Primarily the idea is to show off your awesome digital alters for others to enjoy or critique – if you want to design original cards, the Card Creation subforum is here.
Proxies
Proxies are substitute cards created solely by judges in sanctioned tournaments pursuant to the official tournament rules. These substitutes are allowed when authorized game cards become unplayable during a sanctioned tournament because of damage or excessive wear. Proxies do not include any graphical reproduction of their intended substitutes.
Counterfeits
Counterfeits are copies or reproductions of actual Wizards trading cards, whether or not they are identified as non-genuine. The creation and distribution of counterfeits violate United States and international copyright laws and negatively affects the integrity of Wizards’ trading card games. Counterfeits are strictly prohibited, even for personal, non-commercial use.
As the renders here can potentially be used by unscrupulous parties to create what WotC defines to be counterfeits, we insist users to abide by these rules:
This thread is for high-quality work, please leave basic (eg. crude microsoft paint) work aside.
All renders must be hosted off-site. Non-compliant posts will be moderated & the render removed.
Renders may not be exact or near reproductions of actual WotC product.
NO discussion of printing or proxying techniques. This thread is concerned only with the manipulation of digital imagery. The staff of MTGS does not condone counterfeiting & will not have the community put at risk over this.
Users of this thread are expected to report violations of these rules. Contributing to the thread while failing to report ongoing transgressions that put this site at risk may result in moderation of the active users.
Additionally, as a community service, we encourage users to use this thread to raise awareness of illicit auctions dealing with items that violate Wizard of the Coast's policy as outlined above, for the purpose of reporting these auctions to WotC's customer service department (contactable here, under 'report suspicious behavior).
Is this a new place for proxy creating here? Nice to have a new start!!
But I think the OP of the original "Make a Proxy thread" is a very very valuable and precious resource for making proxies. Would the administrator here reserve it for all of us please?
Thank You very much !! Hope that this thread will be kept clean and we can still enjoy proxies making as usual!!
Tears of joy. I hope this can be as successful as TMAP has been!
I think a lot of people are going to be very happy. I know I am I loved just looking at all the art people come up with and the cards they put them on. So Excited that this thread is back!
I hope this doesn't get deleted either, but I felt it necessary to post. As most of us are very new to the rules here in Artwork, we could use a primer as it were.
The reasoning behind posts disappearing is that this thread is moderated with the Artwork forum spam rules.
Spam
A Spam post is any post that contributes little or no content to a thread. This includes a thread not relevant to the forum it’s posted in, posts discussing topics not relevant to a thread, and posting on a thread solely to “bump” it. Comments left to congratulate, compliment, or praise artwork are fine as long as they contribute more than just "good job" or "nice work." Take the time to add a little detail about what you see. Opinion with supporting statements and/or technical inquiry are what you are looking for. Spam posts will be deleted and repeat offenders will receive official warnings. Examples of spam:
"Wow... what a fantastic job... I'm speechless."
"Whoa man, another great piece. you been busy."
"You, sir, are awesome."
I really don't want to see folks get warned without knowing the reasoning behind it.
So I ask this; Can folks make requests in this thread, or do they have to use the Stickied requests thread and then we post the submission here?
I cant see any reason why posting this would be an issue, after all it contains none of the controvercial information that the "other" threads have caused, rather it simply contains images from the community.
I'd just like to say that if anyone's looking for high quality versions of actual MTG card images for their digital alters, I've recently been putting together a digital collection of just that. I don't know how many images I have, but I'd wager that it rivals that of the collection on magicdeckvortex.com. Most of my collection is from Time Spiral to now, though I have a handful of pre 8th stuff (including a Mirari original art that took forever to find), as well as some Coldsnap, RAV block, Kamigawa block, original Mirrodin block, and 10th and 9th ed pieces, and a pretty wide array of promo art including Gameday, Judge, FNM, Worlds, Grand Prix, Duel Decks alternate arts, and a variety of other promos. I also have some images from Vanguard and Planechase, and a few of the Happy Holidays cards. I don't have any images that are smaller than 620x450.
Chances are, if I don't have it, it's not online, though I'll search specific requests, and if I can't find it, then it's not online. Trust me, I've found some pretty hard to find stuff.
Is there a guide someplace for how to do drop shadows in GIMP?
Right now, I'm having to use the lasso tool with a fuzzy edge to delete pieces of the text box layer, and it sort of sucks. Very timeconsuming too.
I know it has something to do with layer masks, but at the risk of sounding like a total noob (which I am, I suppose) I can't tell how to get a foreground/background. If that's what I need to do?
I have the old proxy thread bookmarked, but 500 pages of posts is a lot to sort through.
Also, here's Hanna, Ship's Navigator. One of my favorite generals.
Thread Rules state: "All renders must be hosted off-site. Non-compliant posts will be moderated & the render removed." Image removed, warning issued.

Speaking about hosting, what is everyone using/preferring? I looked into dropbox but REALLY didn't like that service. Is photobucket good? Lots of people seem to be using that but I worry I'm gonna run out of space.
*This is borderline spam, but I'm looking to post renders and actually read the OP.
Love you guys, thanks a ton

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
I use Imageshack, because Photobuckets file size is smaller, so you end up with resized renders.
You can also use Google to get a Blogger account, start a blog, and upload pics to it. You never have to publish 'em either. A strange way to be sure, but it's another free option.

Photobucket is what I use as far as card renders go, but if you're that worried about space (I don't think PB limits the number of pictures you can have though), then you can always start a Deviantart account dedicated to digital renders.
Let no one say I can't learn my lesson. Here's my card, appropriately hosted and marked NFS.
So my question is at the top, near the mana cost, where I used the lasso and a fussy-edge delete to have the hat spill over the title and mana cost bar.
I'm not a fan of how the blue sky is sort of bleeding through the edge around the hat, and I admit, that's more because of my own obsessiveness.
Anyone have tips/guides/suggestions on how to make the drop shadow, or is that a bigger deal than I'm aware of?
Thanks again.
(and if I messed up somehow, please correct me. Still getting used to things since the hammer has come down.)

I have 15 EDH decks...sorta kills the 'I only need one of a card' aspect of the format.
I went and started a Commander/EDH blog! Come see it at http://wordofcommander.blogspot.com/ and it includes all 15 of my custom super-art generals!
If you're more into the finance section of the game, I write on Fridays for MTGPrice.com.
TheEvilCliff: What you want to do is put everything other than your artwork into a single folder and apply a layer mask to the folder. Then pain in black on the mask whatever parts of the artwork you want to bleed through. You can also duplicate your art, drag it to the top layer, apply a layer mask to it, make it completely black, and then make white the parts you want to bleed over your template. When I'm painting my layer mask I use a brush around 75% hardness.
Shadow layer requires a blank layer as the top layer of your template. Use a 30% opacity on your brush, 0% hardness, and paint black where you want your shadow.
Templates for creating renders can be found or posted here: The New PSD Links Thread.
There are some strict guidelines that need to be held to in order to minimize MTGS' liability here, as we are working with copyrighted material.

Now that I really look at this picture, it's really not quite as 'evil' as I'd like for Phyrexian Obliterator.
