Hey everyone, great work lately, expect more cards from me for a while. Finishing up commissions now that I'm not working/moving/jobless, etc.
Anyways, some alters:
Posted already by wtwlf, but here are some better scans:
Done for the August Altered Art Contest:
Most of a commission, still finishing it up (1 more Vendilion, 1 SSS, and another card on the way):
Forgot to sign some of them, meh. The second SSS, the Clique, and the Mulch are the direction I'm moving to style wise right now. Let me know what you think.
o I've always wanted to do card alterations myself but am absolutely useless when it comes to painting (never really had the time to try it out properly), so I started doing alternate art full art generals for my EDH decks and for some mates. At the moment I didn't really experiment with color yet as I'm not that comfortable with coloring in using pencils and was thinking of maybe at some point digitally painting them and print them using CMYK silk screen printing or something (which would take time but would be indefinitely cool). Let me know what you guys think : )
@ Masamune: Good god. Best ever. Such depth & texture in some of those brush strokes. Subtle transparencies, soft lines, balance between warms & cools...
Joking aside, I think it's great. That's my favorite Swamp picture after this Swamp and the two Ron Spencer Swamps (because Ron Spencer is way too good of an artist).

No kidding. It's like he's a painter or something!
@wtwlf: i was really thinking i posted this one before, searched the pages and yeah, i forgot to post it..anyways, this we'll be with you this week..
this one's for the berserk fans and STOYRM too! : )
the quality of the recent posts from this thread is just a outstanding!
good job guys! visiting the thread everyday definitely keeps me going!
Haze - I love the perspective on Teneb. The rose is a great, subtle touch. Not a fan of the random skull. It's like Teneb went through all the trouble to raise you from the dead, you busted your hump to get to the surface, and there's this smartypants monkey skull head staring at you. It just doesn't make sense. Beyond that, the card is fantastic. If I owned that, I would be building Teneb.
Discounting Rafiq as a humor piece, the pencil cards are all very cool. I love the gritty, edgy, unfinished look they have. It is just so appropriate for a horror character, for a desert nomad, or for someone just rising from their grave. Very cool.
I think Rafiq suffers in pencil. It took me a while to find the joke - a cleaner look would make it stand out more.
Xira is the exact opposite. The character is a bit of an oddball to begin with. Her head or headress or whatever is twice as wide as her shoulders. It looks like if she turns her head too quickly, she'll keel over. I think she would take on more of a hard edge in just pencil.
V for Vendetta - love your take on Sharuum. Thank you for linking the blog, also. It fascinates me how Egyptian architecture and King Tut's relics played a part an art movement 32 centuries after their creation. A quick google search leads to a lot more images. I hope we can see more work like Sharuum.
Masa - man, just when I thought you had quit the altering biz, you come back with that lot. The eyes on SS II, the Mulch, and the Clique are simply amazing. I think this is the first time I've ever seen eyes on an alter which covey emotion. Most eyes on alters are just something to break up the space between the nose and the forehead.
Oulala, so many GREAT GREAT alters, you guys are so amazing
Masamune and Thefourhorsemen, you are just outstanding.
Sligh16, that Lackey is lovely. I love it.
I think the influx of talented artists is great. Everyone is always coming up with greater pieces than their previous ones. I also love that some artists have a completely unique style. I sure as hell want to own some alters from Ondal or Masume.
That being said we need more cool projects and collaborations between artists. I can't wait to see double altered cards. I've been working on that for quite some time now.
For sure. Blegh. Maybe check out a figure drawing book?

@ CK: Love the birds, but something seems slightly off about the Angel. Can't really place it.

ooooooh (I had no idea). I thought she meant shiny like the foil and that takes to much planning and careful work it isn't even funny.
WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.
These are pretty awesome. my favorite is the Xira
Yeah and it's like half-a-foot wide or more.

#2 is easily the best of these, followed by (imo) #4. That faerie peeking up from the bottom margin is really nice. Just....wow.
That Faerie Conclave I also like quite a lot.
