Just a quick alter I did in about 10 minutes. It could've been better had I used super fine point sharpies instead of just fine tip which made the logo difficult.
Comments and criticism welcome!

Hey guys, I posted here a while back, but I never got any feedback, so I would like to see how I can improve on my original alters!
I have a Cube, so I decided to do 2 cards that are in there, so when I sleeve my cube, they can go in!
Overall, I'm fine with my result, especially considering my [lack of] artistic skills. I would however like some tips
I feel like my brush strokes are too obvious, and it may be too thick in one area, and too thin in others (namely the left side of the bolt, in which you can still see the boarder a little). Do I need to thin my paint more?
When mixing your paints, what approach do you take. I only bought basic colors, Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, White, Black, Brown. I had a hard time getting certain purples to match up with the photo, or getting darker colors to stand out at all near other darks (namely the little spines on the right side of Aether Adept.) I also feel like I may need a thinner brush, my smallest one is a 10/0 shader.
Hey, all the artists planning on attending the GP in columbus this weekend, report in! I'll be there. I'll have a few of my pieces there but I still don't have a very extensive library. I'd like to find at least 1 or 2 of you established artists going there to barn for a bit so I can pick up some sweet tips and tricks. let me know!
So there's one more Mad Hatter Jhoira alter in the world. BIG. DEAL.
Biomecha, you should just let it go. Just appreciate the excellent job Galspanic did. It looks better in my opinion anyway.
1. Does the fact that there are several hundred (ball-parking) Black Lotus in circulation make it any less special?
2. Appropriation is part of art. Legitimate artists appropriate everyday, consciously and unconsciously. Whether cardkitty was aware of the idea or not is irrelevant.
3. I doubt you'll even ever come into contact with that alter. I see in no way how it's existence makes your commission any less special.
4. Are artists no longer allowed to alter Jhoira? How about Alice in Wonderland alters? At what point to they become too similar to your idea?
5. There are plenty of other alters in the world that aren't posted in this thread. I'm positive there are plenty of alters that copy ideas that don't get posted.
A bit of a rant. Just had to toss my hat into the ring. If someone copied my alter I wouldn't give a :). As yawg said, there's no moral or ethic code to altering (or art). Do what you will.
Seconded.
Great work all around the last couple days, congrats guys. I've been unable to work on much other than a couple lands for the auction site but I've got an idea for a Tezz I can't believe I haven't seen yet that I'm gonna get right on once I find the right source material.
Hope I get to meet some of you guys at Gencon...one week, I can't wait.

I am looking for Xx Copies of Angelic Destiny, in all Languages, Foil and Non-Foil as well.
It is also hard to have your work commented on when we have to wade through all the boo hoo posts whining and arguing over an Alice In Wonderland alter.
@itachi-- I did like the alter but I felt that maybe the dress was a little long but I do like my angels being sexy! Lol
Also no one commented on my coke :'( haha

itachi chill out. you arent gunna get any comments (least not positive) if you hound people to comment!
if soemone has something to say on your work they will. i dont always get comments no-one does.
it seems a waste to keep posting to try and encourage comments.
same goes for people that repost alters as they didnt get the response they wanted straight away
True, but I had gotten at least 4 PM's about how people wanted to see the finished result. For once I thought hey I might have done a good job.

Hey! Implying Serra Angel is not a prude! lol. I actually was surprise to see how the Coke. I had to double check it just to make sure it wasn't a trick of my eye. I like it!

I have posted over 100 cards on here in the last year. Usually, nobody says anything about them. And if they do it's "nice job." This isn't a constructive criticism thread, it's a post stuff and see stuff thread. So yeah....
Easy kiddo, easy.
EDIT @ Cardkitty: I was just kidding about not looking at my stuff. I don't know why anyone would look through every single post every single day. And I also know that you are two people, but there isn't really a way of formally addressing a Mr. and Ms. with a single identity in the English Language.... So MrMrs seemed to be the best attempt I could come up with at midnight
For what its worth well what little confidence I had in altering cards was just shot to hell.
It was a joke, guy. (as are all the posts on that site..he's being overly-critical (and just mean) on purpose for humorous effect.)
But yeah, that alter was pretty goofy. But that's OK! (ok? ;))
I'll just say this. Every single 'master' began as a no-talent hack. Every single 'master' 'picked up the brush for the first time'. My point is, there was a 'first time' for everyone.
Just keep at it man. Practice really does make perfect. You just gotta keep trying. Every time, you get a little better. Over years, it adds up.
If I stuck at this and did enough of them, I could do them. If I really stuck at it, I could probably paint like some of the guys in this thread. It would take many many years but I think I could do it. I think you could too.
re: Copycat alters. Wow. I will say that I do like Gal's a lot better fwiw. Just stylistically-speaking. (No offense, CK. :embarrass:) I can see both sides of the argument. I've personally attempted to commission stuff that had been done before in the past but it was a rather generic alter. I didn't end up actually pulling the trigger on them so all's well I suppose. I didn't think it was that big a deal. (But I ABSOLUTELY DID inform the person what I was up to when I approached them and thus gave them a choice!)
I can also see being irritated that someone copied your idea on this one. It is a rather unique take on it. If I were an artist, I would probably say no on that basis. "You snooze, you lose", basically.
That said, I don't really see how it can you could realistically expect every artist to go back through hundreds of pages of alters to check first, though. I don't think I would bother with that if it were me..
Wow..that 'Zombie' DSC is really striking! "STRIKING CREATURES" FTW!!
I want this card so bad, lol. I normally am not a big fan of cartoon alters, but this was just great, I loved that episode so much! Great work, and keep it up! I humbly request more of the SP Superheroes and Villains, lol.
To the Masters posting their firsts: It might be a good idea for you just to start a new thread for this. Give everyone a post in it where they can add their first, best, favorite, and most recent to and it could kind of be a brief history of the altered artists that shows people where got your start and what you've become.

Itachi, he's right though. If you keep asking no one will. It also doesn't help to constantly berate yourself, because people will just skip what you post if that's all you post.
My newest (4th) alter. This one came out a lot better if I do say so myself, but I'd still like constructive criticism
Yea, I'd love some criticism on all mine if anyone wants to take some time out, I know they are basic borderless ones, but I still want to improve on things.
