Okay! Thanks for the advice!
I think until I feel like being un-lazy I'll stick to parody alters (painting over the original art and such). These are just some acrylics I've had for a while that my parents got me when I was like 8.
I really appreciate your analysis and thank you for the list of paints you use!
Master advice that I will really take and use. Thanks!
This are so fantastic. I don't want to gush, but you do some of my favorite stuff. Refined and subtle. This alter really looks like it belongs on the card.

If I may make a suggestion: You should do Van Gogh's Sunflowers as a plains.
Hey Galspanic -- thanks for the insights into your work.
Also, I love Poxy's lego metalworker.
I believe he isn't technically a Lego. I recognized it from somewhere, so I looked it up and its the character Kobun/Servbot from Megaman Legends. Judging by its appearance, it was most likely based on Lego-men though.
@Galspanic: If I understand your post about colours right, you use only between 5-9 colours for altering right?
Yeah. I do about 90% of my work with the top 5 colors and then bring in the others whenever I can't quite mix what I need. There are some colors that are simply impossible to mix with my main palette, so I have to bring in the supplemental secondaries once in a while. I forgot that I also use Pyrrol Red in my back up list. Burnt Sienna is a solid enough red for a lot of cards (that discovery still makes me scratch my head) but sometimes when you really need a red red, Pyroll is amazing. It's like a viscous 4 oz. fire truck.
cleaning a card to make a token soldier stick man. scan attached my mad wak 3114 zomgerz art skillz.
honestly thu i have alot more respect for people that do this now. took me a good 1/2 hour to clear the card with paint stripper
well i kinda rushed it, i was messing around between rounds at fnm, and pairing went up so i rushed the bottom, i also think it could be because the sharpie was running low on ink
Wow, that 'hammer is solid. Also loving the pile of skulls and bones near the bottom of Korlash. Very Drew Tucker-y.
EDIT: Just the tiniest quibble on the warhammer, though; it needs just two touches of black on the corners of the name box, so it loses the broken-off look.
As for myself, recently did my second ever extended border for a commission. I didn't like these much at first, since I like the way the borders capture the fact that it's a Magic card, but seeing one in person has won me over.
I like the Korlash a lot, but the extension seems to be a lighter shade compared to the rest of the computer. Specifically the lower right half of the card.
Not well versed with posting pics, I'll figure it out later, but here's a link to the gallery of most of the art that I've done and was able to scan. There are few that I've done for people that I don't have access to (full art baneslayer and the Agents of Artifice Promo Jace specifically)
First shot at this kind of work;
Is it common for altered cards to be a bit persnickety about bending? Seems no matter how little paint I use, they always want to bend. A bit of time between some books sorts it out, but I'm just wondering what everyone does to beat the bends. . .
First real attempt at an "extension." I have no claim to any artistic talent so Sharpies is the best I can do. I also have no decent camera, so my cell phone camera is what I have to use.
[Edit] I put the picture down below with Celestial Purge[/edit]
I've done a few alters in the past adding stuff. This is the first I've done of an extension of the original art. The bottom isn't great I couldn't get the transparency of the red quite right. Also when it dried it was a little too magenta (though nowhere near as much as it looks like in the scan) which was surprising because if anything I thought it was going to be too yellow.

i think this blended very well with the sharpie, looks a lot better on the card because you can't see all of the white spots

Hey Poxy, I have your bucket bookmarked. Some hot cards in there. Did you ever post the lotus on here?
Just using some playable commons as "warm ups".
