What is the medium, and can I get a bigger scan of one to see the texture? Those lines are so fine! How many hours went into these?
Wow...word fail me.
Thanks DrWorm, after precoating for a few mintues and let em all totally dry up, doing the details is about 1 to 1/30 hours..for the smaller detail like the eyes, lion's mouth etc..i used micron pens, then all of the others are acyrlics, black and white. for the tiny strand of white mane/hair i used 000pt nylon brush.
u can check out a bigger pic of that available at my photobucket...

Actually there isn´t that much of a preparation. I cut along the imageframe with a very sharp scalpel and peel off the foil image. Underneath is a perfecly smooth and white blank card to paint on. I then mostly use the grid transfer method to get the image on the card. I use a staedler mars micro pencil to do that. Then i usually use a 0.05mm fineliner to outline the image and erase the pencil and grid. On top of that goes the color with copic markers and again the outlines/dark parts with fineliner. I often scratch highlits with a scalpel at the very end.
Another very useful method to transfer images on cards is klugs innovative carbon transfer method.
I hope that helps.
This is awesome. I've been looking for a way to use pen and pencil to draw on a smooth surface and have gotten discouraged by the eraser method. I can never get the edges clean. This is so much simpler . . . Now I wish I had more foils to play with
On a side note, anyone have tips on how to get clean edges with an eraser?
Crazy cool colors as expected. I just have to ask, was keeping the outline of the boxes something that was requested, or was it your call? I've had people request that look. On simple extensions, it looks better on some cards than others. It seems easier to pull off on custom art.
My call, though I'm not sure if it's "worth it" visually. It also looks pretty mediocre with 2 color gold cards sometimes (or black, etc). Probably the only way I kinda like the new borders though, otherwise I prefer working on pre-8th. (white text>>>>>black text)
Your palette just made a huge shift in the last few weeks. The saturation of color went way up as did the value contrast. Did you score some new supplies or something?
I thought that might have been it. The color nerd in me notices the shift and thought it might be a move from paint to pen bit wasn't sure how much of a move that was.
I remember that short period in wich you used to outline more profusely your pieces, Seesic. Was it a test period -wich you rejected- or was it a comissioner's request? I should confess myself as a sort of outline lover regarding alters, and -as I belive I stated before- such technique highlights your style in a pretty delicious way, IMO (wich, in case of the need of a label, I would call it as "oneiric-comic", if I may say so.
Seeing some of the cards posted above makes me drool in amazement.
My first alter ever. I only have 3 colours and a brush so Doom Blade seemed an adequate card to test the field with.
That doesn't seem like a bad first attempt haha. Coming from someone who hasn't altered a card yet. Got the supplies last night and left them at my girlfriends house, but needless to say, i'd be happy with this as a first alter! I'm sure if you had more colors you could do a more technical card relatively easy. Keep it up!
Did my first ever alter today, just decided it was time to stop paying ppl to alter my cards and try it for myself haha. I'm quite pleased imho, I think I did kinds okay. Though I should have used more water on the frame paint. Will adjust that next time
Would love some imput of other ways to better my skills and what you like with the piece
( If you actully like some thing ^^" )
Haven't been on mtgsalvation in like years before today, so I'm not sure how to get pics on here from my phone. Anyways, I started to alter a zombie token as my very first alter, and I will post a pic of the start of it in the morning unless there's a way to so it from my phone haha.. It's not done and I'm honestly not sure if it can be finished... My colors were pretty bad but I'm not sure if it was 100% the colors or if it's because I didn't spray the cars with a matte clear before starting the alter..
Thank you
Nope, just used acrylic paint, water, brushes (and a toothpick, lol). Heard some use spray for the matte, and some say you dont need it. But I cannot see why use spray if it was this easy to stick the colours without it
Beside the benefit of protecting the piece from scratches and dirt, applying a sealant unifies the whole piece in a single surface (merging the non-painted parts and the painted ones into a single thing that reflects the light equally (try to see a non-sealed alter from different angles of light and you will understand what I mean)

pic doesn't work sir
Wow they look really good IMO. Much better than my first attempt that I did yesterday. Did you spray them with a matte clear before paint?
A warm welcome to the newcomers!
