Hey guys, what do you find is the best way to draw on these cards?
Ive been using Paint markers, which are huge and unwieldy, so I just make a pile of paint with them, and move it around with the tip of a mechanical pencil.
So far Sharpies have sucked and done nothing.
Do I need to erase the border? If so, is there a faster way?
I hope so.
I've done 2 Momentary Blinks to look like Wolverine.
I'll post pics later, I'm at school at the moment.
I'm REALLY interested in doing the erase-the-border-draw-the-picture-there ones. Like those ponders, ruins, etc.
The best way is to use an eraser. It can get really annoying and takes alot of time, but thats what you need to do for the best results in my opinon. I use acrylic paints; I just found a large shoe box of them in my basement, so I have many different colors and options. I still havent been able to blend the colors very well, and I keep getting all of these colors that are too dark or too light; never just right.
I would really love to have some cards altered like that as they just look amazing. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or know-how to do it myself and I'm kind of uninterested in paying large quantities of money to have someone else do it for me.
That's crazy awesome. I'd really like to see one of these up close. And I assume this is the same guy who created eBay cards? It looks like he's really improving his craft.
well, heres my first ever altered card, i had some serious trouble with the precision of erasing so the text box has a homemade frame which isnt strait and the name box is my own doing so its not that nice. Also all i had for markers was my old crayola marks from like second grade so thats what i used.
As you can tell its nameless inversion form lorweyn
Me and my brother plan on doing some more, he's going to work on a tendrils i think and i was thinking about doing a cromatic star.

It's a little hard to see at that resolution, but it looks pretty good. It looks like you finished off the left and right really nicely, and I can't really see the rest of it right now. Obviously it would be a little nicer if you hadn't accidentally erased some of the text and name box borders, but that isn't that big a deal.
If you could get a higher resolution (and possibly better lit) image that would be nice.
Thanks! Ill try to, right now im just takin g a picture with my computer camera, ill see if i can get it lighter/higher resolution.
*EDIT*
While you look at it keep in mind its my first try and that the top would not cooperate, i couldnt get the same green tone as the sides and i just gave up after a while, also i dont have any white markers so the lightning still needs to be continued.
*EDIT*
Sorry its upsideown, i think you can still see it fine though.
As you said, the colors don't quite match. The greenish color doesn't really look right, and it looks like the darker brown that you used is noticeably more red than the color on the card art. Also, on the righthand side of the card (left if you're looking at the upside down picture), it looks like one of the spike things curves down a little too much rather than going straight across and looks a little weird.
The only other thing I can say right now is maybe try to smooth out the coloring a little bit as some of it looks a bit streaky (are you using pencils for that?). For the most part it good, especially for a first try.
I just wanted to say that these are amazing and everyone has more patience than I. I started erasing a card, got fed up, and ripped it in two or more pieces...
I might have to try again on my own time..I could turn out some great cards out of my collection.
If you have trouble getting a straight erased edge, then put a piece of tape covering up what you don't want erased and the edge of the tape along the edge of, say, the textbox (but leaving the border not covered). That way you can not be so careful with you erasing, do it faster and have it neater all in one. Not sure how clear I described it, but it works really well. Oh, and when you put the tape down make sure it lines up the first time, if you keep lifting and putting it on again it might rip off the top layer of the card.
I've found that if you tape over the top with a light coloured tape and then carefully use a craft knife, you can cut around the bits you don't want and can be really accurate around textboxes. Will post results asap.

I don't know... I kinda think it just looks like a burn spell now. There's nothing really interesting added where the text used to be, so the focus just stays on the figure (instead of moving around). At the risk of sounding really harsh, it just seems like a waste of a perfectly good FoW.

i agree that it makes it look like a burn spell, but more than that i think it makes it look like a bad ass fow.

Thanks to spiderboy4 for the banner and avatar!
regular tape work fine, or is it some special homebrewed nonstick eraser's tape ??
I use regular scotch tape and it never has ripped.

Did you do that? If so, you are amazing and if I ever start playing Magic seriously again I want you to alter some of my cards.
If not, that's still really amazing and thanks for posting it.
