Pringles, the woodcut you did for BEB was awesome. It's probably my favorite (and most well known to many people) peices of art from that era. Lines are a lil thick, like you said a finer brush might be needed. Otherwise great work ^^
Nice stuff going on lately. Missed a few days of posting keeping busy at SCG Atlanta. Also I found out today I'll be at SCG Louisville and Indy on official capacity! If anyone's going to be there we can talk alters in person. I have quite a few commissions to get through. Here's the latest:
I'm a fan of this "new" style of alteration; I think that it's wonderfully vibrant. That being said, I can see how it fails to work in regards to illustrative purposes, but this is the altered ART thread, so painting something purely for it's aesthetic quality seems more than fine to me
My favorite EDH card and my favorite Manga paired together:
I can dig it I love berserk alters and this one looks great :D!
Some great stuff being posted, as usual! I do hope that this 'latest thing' with the wavy tendrils and stuff doesn't become too prevalent, though, since there are lots of great styles out there that I'd love to see more of!
I remember when surfpossum did some alters for me! Sadly some of my friends now own them
anyways, I love the alters on here, but do not care for this tendrils affect that was recently posted. For example, the dragonmaster outcast especially. The card seemed so busy, I felt like I was trying to look through Where's Waldo to find him.
**update: after looking at bigups other cards, I recind my previous comment. I think it is the style of the wave lines being in yellow and light red that I didn't care for. His capsize is amazing and almost reminds me of grafiti writing
A few more I've done. todays theme is EDH Generals. Azami was a commission, the Uril was a gift for a friend, the Kemba and the Cromat are mine. I originally meant to do the upper half of Cromat (I needed another blue to finish it off), but I'm thinking I'll leave it as is. Looks kinda cool that way.
So I was feeling that one of my favorite Commanders deserved a more... noticeable presence on the card:
I quite like how it turned out, although her face lost basically all the character Mr. Lago originally imbued it with. Oh well, you win some and you lose some!
well, here is my first attempt at altering. Please note, I have never painted before today and I picked a very easy card (which many have done) to start out with. It was a lot harder than I thought and I have a lot more respect for the masters on here.
I still find it hard to believe that the better posters in this thread are now international quasi-celebrities. They have thousands of fans between all their deviant/photobucket/auctions/websites, etc. They have alter sites dedictated to showing their work. They have monthly articles about them on Starcity. They are invited to conventions.
I can see the incentives of the new alterers to get their game together.

It's admittedly pretty cool.
I haven't had articles or anything that I know of, but if I tell people who I am at conventions and events, everyone knows me.
I've gotten this before when playing my EDH deck...
"Oh man, I saw yawg07 post that online!"
"Haha cool! I saw him paint it."
What can I say, except that I wish to become at least half the good you are, man?? One of the most beautiful alters (if not the most one) in the WHOLE thread. And yes, I've looked at every single page here.
Hey guys,
after seeing what awesome artworks many of you have done, I tried it myself... after kinda failing with the pencil I tried it once more with the GW colors and here is my first piece of art...(Although I might put some more work in it)
Hey everyone!
You all have inspired me to alter cards. I have always wondered about the process but decided to dive in anyway.
These are some of the first ones that I have done. I hope to continue to get better at this so feedback is welcome!
Thanks!
hooray for finishing my 2nd alter ever. Although I think I am going to go to markers instead. I just don't have the spare time to do paint. I find myself rushing and getting a rushed product... that and I have no idea what I am doing
If anyone needs any unopened golden acrylics or brushes, etc. I am going to get rid of them in favor of my set of prismacolor markers.
Anowan:
I need finer brushes if I ever atempt to do this again.
I love when you alter planeswalkers and you can see the missmatching legs with the altered subject. I always find it funny.

Wow I love your style, cards look fantastic! *water is a bit flat, but otherwise everything else is well done.
Please fill me in?
That looks great! What are you using to coat with that keeps your pencil graphite from smudging?
