Okay I certainly must clarify. I AM NOT the creator of the alterations I post. I find them throughout the internet and share them here. I just wanted to let everyone know, so that it didn't appear as though I was claiming credit for these.
I have ALWAYS has a GREAT interest in altering the art on cards, since the time I took a foil Mercadian Masques Brainstorm and made a Batman out of it. That was MANY years ago and the card was given to a former shop owner as present from me to him. He still has it in his case in a city about an hour away from me and if I can ever reach him, I'll see if he can scan it in and send me a copy of it. The work was not that exceptional, in my opinion.
I would love to be able to do some alterations, but I don't know if my abilities to draw equate to being able to use colors - I doubt it. My forte is linework. I have around twelve or so Sharpies here at the house and they never seem to work. I tried paint markers once to just "mess around" and try things out and nothing worked. Crayola markers didn't do a thing either and I believe that in order to get the desired effect, you have to be skilled at erasing or use some expensive markers similar to what nJustice has revealed to us. By the way nJustice, those are AMAZING and I'm curious to see results. I envy your markers.
So in the end, I don't know if alterations will be something I can do. I'm working on a playmat I promised a local dealer a long time ago. He wants me to create one and post it on eBay to see what it brings. He has much more belief in my art skills than I do. There seems to be a market for customized art products in Magic and it seems trendy to have something like this that nobody else has.
Everyone keep the alterations coming. I enjoy this thread very much and I'll continue to post alterations I find.:)
Hey guys.
So yeah, erasing the border is the way to go. even on a white bordered card, you still have to erase it because the gloss gets removed when you erase, making it much easier to draw on.
The only problem I had with this, was getting the right colors. I'm using a very limited spectrum of sharpies, and the only other thing I used was a fine tipped marker, and paper towels ( i used these to soften the colors i had, and to blend black marker with the brighter colors )
I came up with this.
Sorry for the low quality pic, my phone sucks.
EDIT: Better Pic, and also did a Jitte! I want to know what kind of markers to use. Sharpies are bulky, and I cant get the right colors.
The thing is a lot of these altered arts are awesome... but they are on really good cards. I can't decide if I wan't to mess with the ones I have or not.
I'm planning on altering more cards in the very near future. I'll put up some pics when I do.
For now, I'll link you back to my previous post, which I edited to include the Jitte I did.:artist:

There you go. Feedback would be great.
I need to get some fine tipped colored markers.
Oh man, those are amazing!
I think you could work on the transitions a little bit between the original (printed) card art and the art you're drawing on the card. Right now some of the colors are very slightly off (such as the drawn-in moon on the Jitte looks a little light) and it's extremely apparent where the card goes from printed art to drawn art. If you can fix that and make it harder to notice the transitions, they would really be awesome.
I'm not quite sure how to fix the transition problem, it may require using acrylic paints (and painting over the existing art for smoothness), but you may also be able to do it by roughly erasing a bit around the edges of the art and filling that in yourself. For the record, I've never tried this type of alteration (or any alteration at all), so I'm really just guessing here.
Anyway, great job on those. Just get the border a little smoother, and...:o
Am I right when I say that erasing the borders is a pain? I tore a quad and decapitated 1/6 of my eraser after (quite unsuccessfully) erasing the border of a Faultgrinder (don't ask me why).
By the way, PumpUpTheJim, I love what you've done with the Jitte, especially with the addition of Toshiro's sleeve arm. Nice work.
Emmara is like the worst parts of Legends and Homelands got pregnant, aborted the fetus, tossed it in the trashcan, set it on fire and wrapped the corpse in a Dragon's Maze pack wrapper.
I'm just curious to how you plan to get the lighter area for the sonic boom text, while preserving the text.
Here is how I owuld do that.
1. Lightly pencis the outline.
2. either use tape or something, slightly erase or use a light amount of acetone.
3. Let dry
4. Write in SONIC BOOM!
5. Out line the light area.
Hopefuly that would lightene the area appose to fully erasing it.

Lagillesp: I would find a picture of Link throwing a boomerang off of the internet and try to replicate that, but that is just me. Whatever you do, I want to see the final product.
This is my first attempt at an alteration. If PolarBearGod could format this in a more reasonable way, that would be awsome. Let me know what you think.

There isn't anything there to format. Do you have a link or something like that? I and many others would love to see your work.
I like your force of will PBG or at least the one u posted. The academy ruins is amazing....

Thanks to spiderboy4 for the banner and avatar!
They work just as well, too, and are narrower, so they have a little bit more control than do the bricks.
Thanks Zaphod of High~Light Studios for my sweet SIG!
Oddly enough, I think we found the same picture for our Guile cards.
Sorry the picture is so terribly blurry. My phone sucks. I'll post the colored version when I'm finished
