@SuperGLS: practice makes perfect. Even now I still make mistakes. I'm not saying I'm the best at it, but I've done it for a while now. Having that kind of mentality will just keep you from doing anything fun. If you don't try, how will you know if you are able to do it or not? Start with random commons you have a bunch of. play with it. Been a while since I've made one of these.... I should finish the one I started a few months ago.... and that stoopid sangrophage... yeah... *runs away*
I also don't have any of the tools/blades. If I buy them and then end up getting frustrated then I'd be pretty sad, haha. I guess I'll look through the tutorial thread to find some good blade suggestions.
Ill let Incite Hysteria speak for itself. Also creating a rotating life counter that iss tiered and is spring loaded would be cool (yea I know its hard to picture in your head):( Well, I'm trying to figure out the tiering of the Mirroden swamp by Mark tedin, 295, and I've run into a problem. That branh in the fore Ground? I'm wondering wether to sink it into the peice by one layer or keep it on the top (consistency, you Know?) And also, I'm trying to figure out the zigurat counter mentioned above. However, looking at how thick 19 cards are, I doght Ill be able to find peices small enough for it. Any Sugestions? BTW: practically every element has its own layer. That's how atentative to detail I am. 14 elementts.

I do believe that Xacto sells a knife and blades combo for under $5

I can't seem to find the swamp that you are talkin about or I would give some suggestions. Toss me a link to it and see if I can help
Last but no least I did a requested Remand counter. I added some stuff that i have never done before. I found some new techniques that has made my work look alot better. Used an unglued border to give it more pop and a foil island for the underneth of the abacus. This one has a clear plastic cover on it you can't see from the picture. The back looks like a regular magic card. I've got a couple more better ones in the works that are going to be completly see thru with heavy plastic covers on both sides.
Those both look Awsome! Howver, Ago, it seems there's some kind of crease in the back. Anoying because his feathers are there. Also there seems to be white fluff at the edges. Use a sharper knife or color better. And Bfrg 3d, it requires twenty layers to get that kind of thickness. Use Them! Layer them with a Gradient! Sink her back wing a layer or Two! its good, but it could be Better! These are awsome, and I hope you do another One!
Edit: any tips in doing that one technique where you can make it go through multiple Layers? I'm trying to do the ooze river.
Hmm, I've been looking at the cards, and I can't fathom why you use more than 1 of each card. As long as you are careful with the xacto life, you should be able to get away with only using 1.
I'm going to try making one. These look really fantastic.
@Vermy: I saw my mother-in-law had a very large cutting mat and I asked her lots of questions about it. So because of that convo I had with her, I picked up a Self-Healing Mat. While I don't think that brand matters (as I have 2 differant ones) my main cutting mat is a Dritz Dura-Heal 12x18. Its a bit on the pricey side (got it for over 20$ I think), but I like the feel of it more than my cheap-o 8$ one of the same size. You can usually find these in either the crafts area of your Target/Wal-Mart (or any store like it) or fabric area of Hobby Lobby/JoAnn's (or any craft store).
Most of these look great! I've read a lot of both the threads and I am going to try making some of my own when I get some free time. Does Ronin Warclub seem like a good card to start with?
I also like to imagine that he has a rotating torso (like a metallic graft that fuses his upper and lower body together), so he can spin all around, leveling everything within 20ft of him to rubble.
I posted these in a thread I put up about a Pauper EDH tournament I ran, but forgot to put them here. The guy who won did so with Torsten Von Ursus, so I made him a 3D copy:

It's not a bad card to start with, though it's not the type of card I usually recommend for first-time cards. When people ask me what to start with I point them to cards where the separation of layers of art is very obvious. For example, look at these two cards:Those can both easily be broken down into layers. For the Infantry Veteran, the first layer would be just the staff, the next layer adds his body, the next layer adds the cityscape, and next the sun, before ending with a background layer of the full card. It could be made more complex by doing detailed stuff with his hat and/or robe, but wouldn't need to be.
Sadly, that type of artwork is getting more and more rare, as Magic gets better/more complex artwork. I did a quick scan of Scars of Mirrodin commons and found almost no cards I'd recommend for firsts (though Iron Myr and Glint Hawk Idol aren't bad). However, someone else in this thread said a while back that the most important thing for working on a card is that it's one you're excited about, and that's absolutely true. If Ronin Warclub is one you think would be fun to work on, then it's a great choice for your first card. Take it from the guy who did Kaervek the Merciless in a day but took three months to finish a Warp World...

A little side note, if there is some of the art that is lightning, magic-sparkle or anything like that. Use (if you got one) a foil version. It gives a great tuch of detail, and looks amazing, because its a big contrast to the rest of the art.
Here is my Brass Man and my double sided Dark Ritual/ Ishan's Shade. I am also open for comission work too. Got a good pic of the side too so you can see the thick plastic cover I put over mine.
I really like the Brass Man. The copper pins somehow add to it. >_>
Are those life-counters 3-D? I've been trying to get spinning life-counters to work in 3-D cards for ages. If those are 3-D, do you think you could share your secret?

I just had a quick question for some of the veterans out there.
What do you cut on?
I've been cutting on top of a magazine, but I feel like if I was to use a cutting board or some other hard surface it be easier? Thoughts?

Here's an example: "Mind Control / Jace's Erasure"
I'm thinking of trying to mashup all the Jace cards or all the Ajani cards, etc.

Looks like a great idea delslow. If 3d cards go in that direction eventually they will look kinda of like sig banners.
equivocation: I haven't posted my Warp World - I'll do that soon.

Thanks, but I'm sure one of you masters can take this idea to the next level. I'm still working on the basics.
