Labor Day weekend with no plans and my wife at work meant I had time...
She's so beautiful.
She sure is!
...oh, you meant Braids. Thanks! I'm interested to see what you did with the Zombie.

I haven't done any since, but I really want to do this mountain or this forest next. I was lucky enough to start playing just before Tempest and collect a loooot of those basics.
Wow, those are some of the best basic land arts for 3D I've seen - the Mountain especially. Sweet choices.
@Wingederaser94: I've been eyeballing that forest as well. I've gotten somewhat ok with those tiny little spaces like that. So my advice to you is this: Cut VERY carefully. Those little bits will easily tear with enough force, which is not very much. For cuts like those i tend to start with the smallest bits and then cut the bigger ones.

Lmao I've never seen your wife! Although I am assuming she'd be beautiful as well. >_>
I decided to do that Zombie for Grave titan. As such I plan to do a Tuktuk the Returned. And if it's good enough, I'll sell it! MUAHAHA! *ahem*
Until then, I'm gonna do more pratice on this land. Forest
This way I can have a forest to put my dice into to keep track of the mana I have for Omnath, Locus of Mana
@Wingederaser94: That forest seems simple enough to pratice on. Except those branches are gonna be a real pain in the @$$. Good luck!
Sadly delslow I felt that the golden swords, especially the two on the right, looked very flat instead of pointing the way the men were charging.
I'm not sure how you'd fix this but I just thought that I'd mention it.
Apart from that it looks really good. I really liked that the leftmost golden sword was further back than the others, the attention to detail was impressive.

Yeah, this may been a bit of a stretch for my first try. I couldn't cut out the swords and still have them look good. I did learn a lot from it though. Hopefully my next project will turn out better... Jace's Erasure.
Unfortunately I haven't been getting too many 3Ds done...mostly because I have been real busy and haven't been playing Magic. I'll get some photos up next week, but for now it's great to see everyone else posting good 3ds!
Delslow - you definitely picked some tough arts to work with, especially the Jace's Erasure! I personally like the Inspired Charge; you could have done a lot more with it, of course, but what you did do looks good. To make the swords come "out" more, I would have put a very thin spacer layer at the hilt end and a thicker spacer layer at the blade tip end (for the one that's attached to the border, just bend it back).
The big advice I'll give is to color the edges of the cards where you cut them to get rid of the white of the inside of the card. It's shocking how much difference that makes.
What are you using to space out your layers? I can tell it's something thick, like foam or toothpicks; I'm just curious what exactly
RE:Maggot Carrier - I'm hella busy with clinicals right now so I can't do it - anyone else want to show us a 3D version?

Thanks for the kind words. And what would you recommend to use for filling in the white that shows from the cuts? Do I need to go out and buy a set of pens?
As for the padded tape, I am using these "dots" you can pick up at a crafts store like Michael's. I think they are primarily used for scrapbooking. They seem to be doing the trick for me so far.
Yyaaayyy free time. Been so tired lately trying to keep up with all my classwork. Getting 4 hours of sleep a night in 2 hour intervals. Uuugh. [/complain]
[upbeat]
@Deslow: I like your Charge. I can feel the depth in the swords. And I have to give you a hand at Erasure. I thought about that card but then got too scared with the blue swirls. For your first attempts you really went for the hard cards.
@Alleyskag: Really? The Maggot? All those maggots... so much time... so much precision... My hand hurts just thinking about it. I'd try it if I had more copies.
[update]
Still no camera to show you guys my (dissapointing)2/2 Zombie token.
Up next I'm planning out how to do the M10 Mind Control. That one looks like a lot of fun.
I'm also trying to get my hands on some full art lands from Zendikar.
@Zaratustra: i would sooo do this.... now which aura would be best... ill see what we can pick up at the pre this weekend ... it prolly won't be uber stoopid in teh layers but i soo want to do this now
I have finally had time to get some 3Ds done and photos taken. I was a bit unhappy with how some were coming out but these are my most recent 3Ds and the last few I am very happy with.
Note: I already fixed the position of the white layer in the real card.
I'll be working on more 3Ds in the next few weeks, hoping to get some really good results. I was really pleased with how the REB turned out, and from that victory I'm going to go ahead and dissapoint myself by doing some harder cards.
This got to be the geekiest thing in the world.. so i had to try it
d.g: That Rotting Legion and Red Elemental Blast looks sick!
When i get my camera, a Lorwyn Elf Warrior token, and Wanderer's Twig is coming op.
The elf token was a pain in the a**, for at first timer, specially considering the knife i used, a small Swiss army knife, but i think i did ok despite the equipment.
Great work D.G... I have a question on what tool you are using to make your cuts... they seem so much cleaner than mine.
I'm using X-Acto 11 blades. There's some important lessons I learned from my early 3Ds that have served me well into doing the harder cards. I'm spoilering this since it turned out pretty long for only a few points:
1. Replace your blade often. Your blade will probably chip. How quickly it chips depends on how hard you push on the knife, the orientation of the blade, what your cutting surface is, and how much you are using the blade. You should see and feel the blade chip when it happens. When it does, use the knife to remove the chip from the card and REPLACE THE BLADE. This is very important and something I took for granted when I started. When this happens you replace the blade. Not doing so means that you're cutting with a thicker, duller knife. This will cause more friction against the card and causes the cuts to have a visible "drag" where the knife tugs against the card. Take a dull(er) and a new blade and make two cuts on a card and observe the difference. You can tell which 3D-ers change their blade often by the pictures. Look at shazaam's cuts; they're all very clean which means he never uses a chipped or dull blade : )
2. The direction and order you make each cut is important. I have a system that I have been using to limit the number of knicks and miscuts. I might post a full explanation of this in the future, but for now just think about the order and position of the blade in each cut. Getting better at this lets you do finer detail and more complex cuts (such as vines, leaves, and other hard cuts).
3. Always create layers back to front. This is a good habit to get into that lets you recover from you mistakes without wasting extra cards. For example, let's say we are doing a 3D of Rag Man. We want to have layers as such:
Front: card with no art + raised text area
* Rag man
* Rag man + wall near rag man
* Rag man + wall + buildings on the right
* Rag man + wall all buildings
Back: Full card/sky
If we were to start by cutting out the Rag Man layer we would be doing it WRONG. Cutting Rag Man out first means that any higher layers that get messed up won't be useful to "downgrade" to the Rag Man only layer. However, if we start from the back we can mess up quite a few things and still be able to downgrade to other layers.
4. Always do small details first. This is similar to #3. Always do the hardest, smallest cuts first. If they get messed up you set the card aside and use it for a layer where that area is not present. From our example above, when cutting the layer "Rag Man + wall near him" we should cut rag man's hands first. This is the most complex part of this layer, and if it gets messed up there is no point having the rest of him cut out. On top of doing it just to save time, doing the hard cuts first is better because of the extra material the card will have when you start here. Trying to cut it once everything else is gone is more difficult because you do not have the rest of the card to hold the hand in place. How many times have you tried to do a cut like this only to have the card move or bend? Doing these cuts when the card is whole makes it much easier.
5. Cut your nails. Holding the card with your hands with long nails will cause lots of little dents and marks on the cards.
I decided to give this a shot and installed a life counter mechanism in there:
I learned that I should use a new blade. My current XACTO knife blade is very dull and thus the edges arent very clean. I also gotta find some better beads. Thanks for looking!
She sure is!

@alleyskag: mmmm Maggot Carrier.... wish I had me some 10 or so copies of that to pull it off... oh well.
@Shazaam: LOVE. THAT. BRAIDS!!! Your work never ceases to amaze me... guess I need to make some free time to cut something up....
@All: You kids and your single digit layers! All joking aside, love that there are new names sharing their works.

Wanderer's Twig 4 layers
Made a little mistake, with a wave in the water, and didn't outliine the inner borders because of the light bagground, same with the Twig
