The first ad that came up came from go.mobisynergy.com for a virus "infecting" my phone. The popup locks the browser unless you hit OK.
To help others. Force quit the app. Turn off WiFi and 3/4G. Then relaunch the browser. No internet access equals no popup. You can close the offending window without clicking OK and being taken somewhere else.
In any case, ten minutes later, a similar locking popup from rareclick.xyz.
I believe they're related since flipping through the browser history showed the new browser session loaded mobisynergy before loading rareclick.
Same problems still on android.

This seems to happen often. It is frustrating as I won't have any issues for several pages and then it locks up my browser with pop-ups that won't let me go back or leave the page. I can work around it by restarting my browser, or sometimes entering a new URL works too, but it is frustrating on a mobile phone to have to find the post I was last reading...especially if it is several pages into the post.
I think it was the rareclick.xyz but I will double check next time it happens.
Yep, it just happened again...several times when I was trying to access posts. It is rareclick.xyz that I am being redirected to. Various virus warnings and threats of locking my browser/phone if I don't fix the issue by downloading a 'repair' tool.
A couple screens even try to look like official Google or Android screens.
This is truly annoying. Is there any way for the admins to get this blocked? I am not stupid enough to fall for the fake 'fixes' but I would bet money that people who do fall for it will wind up with adware, malware or worse.
Is there anything we can do about the pop up ads on the mobile site? They make the site impossible to navigate on my phone.

Switching the site to "view in desktop mode" dodges the issues I've been having, but between the bad ads on mobile unless I switch and the uneending spam that is becoming more and more frequent on the boards, MTGS is becoming a less desirable website for me, particularly on mobile.
The EXTREME number of attempted hijacking ads on mobile is just completely unacceptable. I get that every now and then a bad ad gets into a website, and it's usually corrected, but it seems that it's an unending problem on MTGS.

Please kill the "Fashion Theater" ads. Anytime it comes up I have to reload my page, as the add will slow down my page to a crawl, and will attempt to hijack sound. It's taken me 5 minutes to write this post because of this ad, which as of right now, is running at the bottom of the page. I can play Destiny lag free with friends, but struggle to use the forums.
m.gamesgeek.com hit me again but the browser crashed on the fake virus message so I didn't catch the 2nd website (I saw enough to see it was different) Disabled the data link and reloaded the browser and it went straight to m.gamesgeek.com.

Yes I am.
Everytime there's a report, I go bad-ad hunting.
I have a customized chrome that can imitate other browsers and devises, and sit there refreshing pages over and over on each, recording network traffic until it pops up so I can gather all the necessary information that allows them to get google to pull the ad. Unfortunately, the algorithm for google's adsense takes into account previous things like history, geolocation, etc. So there have been some I can't personally grab and just have to forward blindly to hope someone elsewhere can grab them.
I did miss responding to your "any update?" question, but I assure you I look at every bad ad report and personally try to find it to kill it.
Just a heads up that there has been a recent uptick in browser hijacking on this site. I know that's not helpful without a sample, but I've been redirected several times today to various scareware-related sites. (Currently using Chrome.)
Playing millions of cards every turn... Slowly and systematically obliterating any chance my opponent has of winning... Clicking the multitude of locking mechanisms into place... Not even trying to win myself until turn 10+ once I have nigh absolute control... Watching my opponent desperately trying to navigate the labyrinthine prison that I've constructed... Seeing the light of hope fade and ultimately extinguished in an excruciatingly slow manner... THAT'S fun Magic.
We have 2-3 users that are dramatically making this thread incomprehensible and non-productive for anyone else to possibly join in the discussion. This needs to change.
Every time I see [ktkenshinx] post in here, I get the impression of a stern dad walking in on a bunch of kids trying to do something dumb and just shaking his head in disappointment.
Near Mint: The same as Slightly Played, but we threw some Altoids in the box we stored it in to cover up the scent of dead mice. Slightly Played: The base condition for all MTG cards. This card looks OK, but there’s one minor annoying ding in it that will always irritate and distract you whenever you draw it. Moderately Played: This card looks like it survived the Tet Offensive tucked inside the waistband of GI underwear. It may smell like it, too. Heavily Played: This card looks like the remains of Mohammed Atta’s passport after 9/11. It may be playable if you double-sleeve it to stop the chunks from falling out. The condition formerly known as "Washing Machine Grade" Damaged: This card is the unfortunate victim of a Mirrorweave/March of the Machines/Chaos Confetti/Mindslaver combo.
[M]aking counterfeit cards is the absolute height of dishonesty. Ask yourself this question: Since most people...are totally cool with the use of proxies...what purpose do [high] quality counterfeit cards serve?

I switched to chrome on ios just to make this website usable at all. Now even that is being spammed constantly. iPhone 6, iOS 10.0.2. Both Chrome and Safari constant hijacking. Festus, MO. Dump your ad network?
The browser hijacking is getting ridiculous. I can understand one getting through per month, but three just to get to this thread is posing a serious risk to your community.
Kill your ad network and get a new one. You are actively enabling harm to your users.
You're aware that your ad provider is delivering risky ads at an egregious rate. This level of negligence is not acceptable.
There's been a rash of attack ads against Android.
They've already been able to kill the vast majority of bad ads against iphone, and they are making adjustments to hopefully kill these bad android ones as well.
I spend a lot of my free time browsing to try and capture them to get them killed, but their ad targetting is highly sophisticated, purposefully selecting a small percentage of users.
I am, truly, sorry about these bad ads.
They are not acceptable to us, and work is being done to combat them.

Most all of them we are getting now are mobile based.
If you are mobile, please please list:
Your device, OS, and browser.
Also your City and State (or City and Country outside of US)
This will not only let us grab the current bad ad, but also help stop them from coming up in the future.
If you do not want to post this publicly, please feel free to PM me directly.
(This will of course only be used to help fight the bad ads.)
