The adbot filter is catching most of them. You may be seeing them showing up on the 'latest post' index on the front page even though they've been banned by the filter & spam posts relocated to the spam filter learning subforum.
If you can see the content of a spambot thread, please report it so that we can take care of it.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):

Is it better to report the thread or the user in cases like the ones we've been having?
Report the thread, unless there's a ton from the same user in the same forum.
Btw. would it be possible to have a own thread somewhere where we can post names of spam bots (so that you guys have it easier to find guys like dassji3 (Spambot in Community Issue ))?
Greetings,
Kathal
PS: And yeah it is annoying, but this is more of a general problem, than a mtgsalv specific problem.

What I play or have:
Modern/Legacy
either funpolice (Delver, Deathcloud, UW Control) or the fun decks (especially those ft. Griselbrand)
IF you report the posts all the relevant local mod and all the Globals + Admins will get a notification. Then we can go in and ban the relevant accounts if they haven't already been spotted and dealt with.

I don't see that many, if you see one just report it and move on.
Some of this is readjustment of some of our moderator tactics and some of this is that our auto spam filter has started picking up on more of the bots and automatically cutting them out. Its not perfect by any means but there are several that get hit by the spam filter and just weeded out on their own.
Ideally our spam filter might continue to evolve and hit the bots more accurately and often. We have to be a bit leery of over using it though as if the auto spam filter finds legitimate posts its a very bad thing. Its tricky but we are slowly working on it.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
it seems to be working as the weird hindi/english word salad spewing astrology bot has finally shut up
The astrology/black magic/escort/help guy (it's all the same people) is still going strong (over 200 posts in the last 24 hours). People just don't actually see anything from him anymore (or at least, very rarely) because the spam filter catches it all. It learned what his posts look like, and now whenever they post one of their threads, the filter gets rid of it quickly (generally less than a minute later, occasionally two).
This will remain true for future spammers.
At first the filter will have a hard time distinguishing them from a real poster. Again, these aren't actual bots - it's no different than if you decided to make a new account and post. However, as the staff works diligently and marks the posts as spam, the filter learns.
So we will eventually see a new run of threads from some new spammer down the road, but then the filter will learn and remove them all for us automatically. After the filter learns, you won't even notice if they're still trying to post or not. The interim between seen and filtered takes a lot of work from the staff to keep things clean, so please be patient when this does happen.
I just flagged six ten spam messages in the Rulings section in under 3 minutes... I'm sure a lot of the spam automatically gets caught, but the ones that get through, it's getting kind of ridiculous again. Tons of "black magic" and "love specialist" crap.

Yeah, it's actually kind of insane how many of these pseudobots we get nowadays. During the last 24 hours, we've banned 43 of them (I just checked), and that's nothing out of the ordinary. At least it's not like back in February, when we banned literally hundreds a day for a brief period.
The filter seems to be learning, though, so many threads that you flag should get caught automatically fairly quickly, but one thing the filter doesn't do is ban the bot. So it might just keep posting until a mod figures that enough is enough. For those unfortunate among us that have pure sight, i.e. see the threads that have already been marked as spam, forum browsing can get kind of tedious. Like 90% of the threads in Magic General, for example, are often bot threads
The filter needs to learn faster -- I've pretty much been camped out in the Magic Rulings forum for the last hour, and it's just flooded with "love problem solution baba" nonsense. It's the exact phrase over and over again... come on filter, get your act together.
I checked about 6:30 EST when I woke up, and the most recent entries were all spam. I know I mostly lurk here, but it's gotten to the point where it makes me want to go somewhere else for my Magic information.
That is actually pretty annoying, if they start doing that. An easy way to spot the bots for me is to look for BLACK MAGIC SPECIALIST MUSLIM LOVE EXPERT CALL INDIAN NUMBER +21487258235988 blah blah blah in the forum index; usually they're quite easy to spot (though incredibly persistent).
