So, I was working on a table of contents for a decklist thread I'm creating when I ran into something odd. For some reason, I cannot assign a specific name that I want to an alink/anchor tag, and I have no idea why. I've troubleshot this issue for the greater part of an hour now, and everything I've tried has come up blank. For reference:
My alink's name does in fact match my anchor's name.
An alink/anchor of the same name has not been used somewhere else.
Now, I can easily rectify this problem by choosing another name for my alink/anchor. I've already tried that and that works just fine. I genuinely want to know why I can't choose the specific name I want though. I can provide my "code" if that would help anyone diagnose my problem here.
EDIT: I think I've diagnosed the problem. For some reason, apostrophes seem to break things when used inside of alink/anchor tags. Any name that I try assigning to an alink/anchor tag that uses an apostrophe breaks the tag, and assigning just an apostrophe with nothing else really breaks things. So, it looks like I have my answer now. Can anyone shed any insight into why this is the case, or is it just "cause the forums are coded that way?"
Generally speaking, you can't use most special characters in anchor names / links. This is how the internet is coded. Some browsers will work with them even though they shouldn't, but you will always have people running into issues.
It's the same basis as what you can and can't name a file on your computer. You can't go and name a file with "/" in it, because that's part of the path characters that show different folders. You can use some characters in a file name, but not all.
The only characters you should ever use for URIs (which includes your use with anchor tags) are: the alphabet, numbers, underscore ("_"), period ("."), dash ("-"), and tilde ("~"). All other characters are "reserved" and are "special" characters that modify the url/request. If they exist inside the URI as normal characters, they have to be "encoded". (Such as "%32" for "space")
The apostrophe, specifically, is reserved as a sub-delimiter inside the URI syntax structure. Much like "?" and "&", these are special characters that change how the request and processing are done. For instance google.com/ and google.com/?hello=there&how=areyou are both URIs that resolve to the same requested URL, but with different variables in the request header.
Still no love for assigning tags for defferent versions of the same card?
Like basic land versions within the set.
Or a specific fallen empires version of Hymn to Tourach?
Is there any way to make use of the quotes tag without italicizing the post? for CCC(&G) it makes it difficult to differentiate the flavor/reminder text from the rest of the card, and we frequently make use of quotes for some of our games.

I guess I don't know exactly what you want but you could try the [box][/box] tag.
This is a box tag in use.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

Usually having the op's username in the quoted post is important; posts need to be quoted in contests that require voting, so therefore knowing whom to vote for is necessary.
You'll have to hack in an override that sets the font-style to "Normal" instead of the italics.
Just open it and close it right inside the [Quote] tag.
There's a couple open-ended style tags.
[Space] is the easiest that won't add any extra markup.
[space=5px; font-style:normal;]
Code:

Hummmmmmmm let me run down Feyd. [/space][/quote]
So i'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but if i want to specifically do a card tag for the japanese alt-art version of the wanderer, what should i type?
as in [card=the wanderer|jpy]this guy[/card*] doesn't work. i've no idea how to do it. Ideas?

I think you can only do tags for cards that show up in the Cards database. So, if you search for the card, and it shows up, you should be able to tag it. You can see Maelstrom Wanderer show up 3 times which means all 3 should be able to be tagged.
With that in mind, The Wanderer only has 1 result displayed so I believe this is the only one that can be tagged. Which suggests that they need to update the card database to include the Japanese alt-art cards in order for you to display it.

So what you're saying is that until mtgsalvation updates their card list, it's not possible to card-link/img-link the alt-art card? That's fine, i suppose. not sure if it's worth the hassle. But in general, i kinda like the alt-art better - it reminds me of the old days when the art was a lot less coherent, but each card felt more unique.
Does anyone know if there are plans to include stuff like that in the database?

Trap your friends in an endless game with this 23-card combo!

tl;dr - Don't use apostrophes
