Just out of curiosity, how else would you envision the sale of a website like this happening? "You get the name and the URL, but we wipe the forums"? Would that be better?

Sing lustily and with good courage.
Be aware of singing as if you were half dead,
or half asleep:
but lift your voice with strength.
Be no more afraid of your voice now,
nor more ashamed of its being heard,
than when you sang the songs of Satan.
Just out of curiosity, how else would you envision the sale of a website like this happening? "You get the name and the URL, but we wipe the forums"? Would that be better?

When a sale of information is made most times that person is giving the option to OPT OUT of that info being given off. Now when the site was sold to curse it was with the site as it was. Upgrading the site was fine, moving servers for better interface...fine. The fact I now have a clone account that requires a Curse ID to sign into and the site is NOT the same site I signed up for and on Is the problem. I was not given the Opt OUT option. So many information has been handed out to another site as a whole and That is the main issue I am bring up. I think I am safe to say no MTGS ONLY staff has any bloody clue what the hell has been done, going on, or even know what the hell they are talking about. Its clear on the reaction from most of the staff they are going in blind on the transfer and the way to handle such things. Doesn't take much for the site as a whole to send a mass email/PM to all members that there is a major change and will require a new ID or if choosing an OPT OUT. Thanks for being scummy like some other services I had to deal with in the past 15 years.
I feel I'm confused here. This is just a beta, so my information hasnt been given out yet right?
Why are we so mad :???:
That said, has anyone tried the beta on a tablet device or is it not yet possible?
Still doesn't work on the iPad, at least.
There's one thing I'm confused about. Nai claims that the MTGS staff had no knowledge of nor hand in the movement of user information to the Curse system. Galspanic claims that the MTGS staff chose to do that in order to simplify the process for users. Those two explanations are mutually exclusive.

Before I answer can you quote me on that so I know exactly what you are referring to? If there is a discrepancy I want to clear it up
I'm off to work, so there's not much more I can do until I get home, but I'd like you to see it from where we're sitting.
We (the staff) have been told that we need to move to a new site, and that Curse is handling it. They make the site, import the information (an automated process), and we get to work on a beta. People become upset about the account creation and then blame it on the mods, who had nothing to do with it.
It's not fun to be blamed for something we had no part in, and no prior knowledge of. So I apologize on behalf of myself, and the other mods, for being insensitive to those that are upset about this. We've been thrown into the deep end and we're trying to do right by everyone.
Mods haven't done **** except try to make this change as painless and beneficial as we can. It's happening. It's been happening. And what we want is for it to be as good for the members of MTGS as possible. The goal all along has been to preserve as much of what we have while working with their software support.
And really, you keep calling this "mod abuse" but I can't for the life of me figure out what this even means.
Nai's post makes the explicit claim that the staff knew nothing about what was happening. Your post seems to indicate a much higher level of staff knowledge and/or involvement. That's all
The account creation is what Nai is talking about and the transition from one forum software to the other is what I am talking about.
Curse did the move a while ago and the Admins have been consulting them for months. Then when it looked like we had something that would resemble a workable forum we went to the Globals. Then the Mods got this a few days ago so they could look it over and start hitting us with feedback and ideas... then the public. The actual transfer of Hannes owned information to Curse owned information happened with the Sale of the site, so that's not something the Mods handled. The past and current owners were on that.
I do apologize, my grandmother died today so I'm not going to be in this thread much over the next couple of days. I did want to add to Gals' post to clear things up as well:
My post specifically refers to the mass account creation. When the admins got access to the beta so we could start learning how it worked, we were given accounts that we had to set up. That's about the end of what I ever heard about account creation. It wasn't until this thread that I learned it was on a global scale.
And this is the other part of this problem. Staff (or ex staff) entirely blowing off this issue.
I don't believe the staff are blowing off anyone's concerns, if they were, they wouldn't still be responding and inquiring about ways to address concerns.
But you're absolutely right, I am blowing off this issue. Because I honestly don't even see what the issue is here. Ordinarily, I can understand users' complaints even if I don't share them, but this is the rare occasion where I truly don't see the issue in the least.
When Curse bought MTGSal, many were afraid this would happen. So, it stands to reason, then, that the community might dislike having their information used to create Curse accounts without any foreknowledge.
So? I don't get why "this" was so feared then or why it's something worth squabbling over now.
But, once again, this Curse account creation was backdoor and secretive. We have a distrusting community. Curse isn't winning any points from me.
Honestly, a lot of the distrust the community has is founded on perceived and/or imaginary slights and betrayals and subsequent overreactions. I don't begrudge people their extreme emotional responses, but I'm not particularly swayed by them either. Nai and Gals are trying to help the distrustful segment feel better about this, and considering I doubt the site transfer is going to be stopped by a small number of discontent posters, I'm not sure what else anyone expects the administration to do.
Nai, while we had our differences, I'd like to send my condolences to you and your family. I've been there late last year around christmas time. I hope she didn't suffer.

So I take it with this the Chatroom is officially gonna be retired, huh?
Seeing as how my question has been COMPLETELY ignored in both threads, figured I would requote myself to ask again. How come there is no mention of the chatroom on the new forum setup? Is it being ditched by curse, or is this just an oversight?

Will the new version be mobile friendly? I post 100% by phone and roll over prompts destroy forums for me because they never go away if I accidentally touch the link. I never use mobile enabled forum software either because they tend to miss a lot of information like avatars, links, and simple info that's usually viewed on the desktop pages.
One more thing, that may or may not have anything to do with this new version, but I noticed there's a "premium" version. What does this entail for non premium members?

I think the roll over prompts are obnoxious enough on a laptop, so I can definitely see what you're saying. I've brought it to their attention.
@Premium: I'm pretty sure that this is mostly about removing the ads. I'm not positive though.
@Premium: It's also for their actual product, the Curse mod-thing for various games like WoW. Friends told me that it holds mods so you can activate them easily, I guess?

Has there been any update on the filtering issue for those of us browsing from work?
I don't think there really can be, since its not something Cruse has control of... Most likely your place of employment has every curse affiliated website blocked. There's nothing Curse can do about that.
