Having "cleared" all these "misunderstandings" is all cool and swell, but at the end of the day, it seems we are left with a plethora of regular members with 5000+ posts -some of which ex-moderators and globals- which are, at this exact time, banned from the forum.
We also have a subforum, which was thriving before you guys messed with it, which is now effectively dead.
But I'm sure this is all a misunderstanding too...

All any of us truly want as this point is the sql dumps of the gutter so that we can move tbgte. It will take all of five minutes.
1. This is totally unrelated to what this thread was about.
2. The admins lack database access. We aren't really able to do anything towards these ends until we next see Hannes.
If you have any further questions along these lines, please use my helpdesk. I would rather this thread not get further derailed.

This means never in practical terms then.
EDIT: Actually this has not been brought up yet as regarding the sale to Curse, but wouldn't it have been expectable (in a normal setting, lets forget this is MTGS for a minute) for the owner to stop by ITT/The Curse sale thread for like a minute or two and drop a line?

No?
We are still waiting for word as to what he and Curse decided (assuming they have reached a decision).
You should be able to see for yourself, his last log-in was 9/12/12. If he logged on to update us or handle any tech requests, it would show.
I am not quite so cynical as you seem to be here. He's been extremely caring for the community for the past 7 years, and while life has him more busy than normal, I trust that he'll update us as soon as he can.
Again, this thread is about the leak, and I would greatly appreciate if you direct questions in this or other off-topic veins to my helpdesk so as to keep this thread on point.

On September 14th, in a chat with the Liaison, ER and I were told (in summary, we hadn't been in the chat when the direct order was issued) that we needed to close the Gutter and make it a staff action so Curse wouldn't be taking over a site already upset at them. Or, as the summary put it, 'as a PR gift'.
At roughly 7 am CST on September 21st, our Liaison respond to my request for leniency. He told us that if we wanted to leave the Gutter open, we could. He told us that if we wanted to say it was Curse, we could. His statement of 'close the Gutter' was made at 5 am (his time), and he went the logical (by which I assume he means 'least amount of work on everyone's behalf and shortest amount of drama') choice he could see.
So this:
Quote from Staff »
But here's the important thing: We may not say that Curse said so.
Was an interpretation based upon the following:
Quote from Staff »
we needed to close the Gutter and make it a staff action so Curse wouldn't be taking over a site already upset at them
And at no point on Sept 14th did Curse say explicitly that they did not want their own name involved in the staff's decision to close the gutter? They simply said that they wanted the staff to be the ones to do it?

Don't think of it as something being taken away. Instead, be thankful for the duration of the time it was permitted to exist.
The subforum was going to go one day and it was inevitable. It's not even about the drama it may or may not have caused. You have to remember that, at the end of the day, there is no such thing as a free lunch. No one is under obligation to host your secret, ultra exclusive clubhouse.
Now it has its own website. The 40 year old has officially moved out from his parents house. It's all for the best for everyone. The Gutter is too "big" for MTGS. *shrug*

I don't think that is a very good analogy.
It would be better to say they are friends who roomed together during college and one of them still likes to have fun on the weekends while the other one slowly forgot how they'd originally become best buds (it was while binge drinking and finding ways to fight 'the man'), because a couple years after that he joined a fundamentalist sect and began to see everything that his friend did as anathema. He alternated between obsessively attempting to convert his friend and wistfully wanting things to be like how they were. Eventually, the relationship becomes so toxic one of them moves on. Neither one is blameless in the loss of the relationship, but they were getting along pretty well before the one latched on to a rigid belief system that espouses a narrow definition of 'correct'.

I'm not sure how many times I can say this:
They DID explicitly state that they wanted their names left out of it, and that they wanted us to do it for them. However, one week later, they reversed that decision and said that it wasn't set in stone.

I guess my question is:
Why didn't anyone question this when they found out, rather than just doing what they were told then questioning it AFTER the drama had already started?

Correct me, then, if I've got this wrong.
Curse didn't lie to you on September 14th. They simply asked you to lie by leading us to believe that it was the staff's decision to close the gutter, and not theirs.
Then, when you pushed back, they said later that their request that you lie from September 14th wasn't mandatory, and the staff had misunderstood that the request was not mandatory.

Except it wasn't "several hours before it was leaked". It had been leaked before this supposed chat with the liaison happened. I'll support it by pointing out that N_S had been banned 08 September, not after the 14th.
I'm also going to say that the reason for my insurance policy, at this point, becomes more and more vital. Nai has a copy of one of the messages i received. That gimmick account I had never seen before, but I'm not wondering if maybe, just maybe, people are sending us this information in the hopes that we give the staff something to ban us for. I made my case as to why I believe N_S was caught in an entrapment scandal in order to begin banning members of the Gutter. I do not, for one second, believe any longer that this is happenstance.
@Russian Alara:
Sene admitted that he stepped down because he could not lie to the userbase over why they were closing the Gutter.

I don't normally pay attention to that thread I'll admit. But yes, seeing some of those names leaving, I'll need to ask a few sources if there's anything in ML about it. it does appear to be people who would not have normally allowed this to happen. Morals and all that (ON MY INTERNET? HELL NO!).

The N_S leak was about the Curse deal in general, not this particular aspect of it; when he was banned the Gutter business hadn't been posted about in the ML. This stuff was not posted about outside the Lounge until after the Admins talked to the Curse reps.
I made my case as to why I believe N_S was caught in an entrapment scandal in order to begin banning members of the Gutter. I do not, for one second, believe any longer that this is happenstance.
I don't think that's it, but I don't know who the leaker is or what their motivation is, so who knows. All I can say is that no-one I know and trust in the staff would have been okay with that.
Sene admitted that he stepped down because he could not lie to the userbase over why they were closing the Gutter.
He was considering quitting for that reason if he had to lie, but that obviously didn't happen. I don't remember if Sene has laid out the reasons he quit in public, but from what he's said to us it wasn't Curse.
In general, everyone I know who has wanted to or has quit the staff recently has been because they were sick of drama, or because they didn't enjoy moderating anymore.
