Okay. I have just read the rules carefully, and I'm pretty sure this breaks none of them (unless you count this as flaming or spamming, which no reasonable person would).
I feel that the rules on this site are enforced REALLY, REALLY STRICT.
I know, I suppose the best answer would be to leave, but I got nothing better to do (except study for my physics exam tomorrow). I have been here three days. I have a warning and two infractions.
In both of the first posts, there was nothing visibly wrong. I stated something funny, not crude about mind's desire in a thread which likely had a lot to do with bugging people anyways (not being judgemental, but when you ask how mind's desire works with Eye of the Storm, you're asking for it dude). Then I stated my wholehearted agreement with the above post, which was taken the wrong way by a mod (the second infraction was just me not taking the time to read the rules perfectly clearly, I edited my post after the infraction).
But this isn't just complaining. I want t know if anyone else feels that it's a little too strict here. I can't really judge, but that's pretty high standards demanded from a ADHD-possessed gamer.
Anyways, just stating my opinion.
Peace out.

Hey kids! Don't like rules? Tired of having your lulz censored by terrible, terrible people called "moderators"? Big fan of metal? Check out Metaln☺☺☺☺! This is probably the worst possible forum to advertise it on!
Added bonus: we're holding a songwriting contest in march with a registry drive going on right now! Check it out, plus the opportunity to earn $50!
Seriously, strict? I have 2 infractions, out of which one was like. "Okay, i know i'm gonna get this.. But i just can't frigging resist." I know, stupid of me but I really wasn't able to resist. That's 2 infractions, ever. I've been here for 3 years. You know, as long as you don't flame / spam for no reason (Or if you do those, don't get caught... Oh darn, now some mod is gonna search all my posts?) you'll be fine.
EDIT: Oh nvm, this might be the cultural difference, i mean.. i don't find it strict at all, i find most of mods here lax when compared to say: school teachers, extra-curricular activity keepers, and stuff like that. I mean, that's pretty much what this is, extra-curricular activity. We come here, have fun and someone watches over that everyone has a chance to have fun without getting picked on by others. In real life that takes the form of teasing / insulting, in the boards it takes form of flaming/trolling.
For reference, this is what i got infraction for, i think i deserved it but i couldn't resist.
On subject of deck cutting, and legal ways to do it. (Rifle shuffle, asking your opponent not to do it and so on.)
1: Bring a knife with you to the tournament.
2: Wait for your opponent to present the deck for cutting.
3: Cut the deck so that you cut the cards corner from corner half.
4: ?????
5: Profit!
Spam warning issued. If you don't want to give a serious answer to a serious question, then move on to the next thread. --Binary

Ask yourself, does that really contribute to the topic? If not then chances are it's spam.
In addition to what Diggy said; that joke could've made for a pretty great thread starter in humor. Its not so much that MtG:S is repressive; they just want things to occur in a constructive, positive manner. Something that spam/flame doesn't do...
I don't want to speak for the entire staff or anything but I have to say that I like a stricter-than-average set of rules here. I've been active on a multitude of forums in my time and I've found myself slowly becoming less and less active everywhere else but here. I don't think it's necessary to have all the pointless profanity that other sites have and I don't feel the urge to navigate through all the stupid net-speak other boards are filled with.
I'd like to think that most of our rules here are in place for a reason and are explained adequately in the Forum Rules. As always, though, if you have an issue with a particular rule or with the way a post was moderated, feel free to PM a moderater or post on their helpdesk.

"...because without beer, things do not seem to go as well."
Also, it sounds like you've had at least some of your issues in the Rulings forum. That forum's rules are enforced more strictly than those on the rest of the site. This is a good thing, since it helps make sure people are clear about the rules, which leads to more & better Magic players, which is good.
But yeah, if you don't like it, there are plenty of other MTG boards to post on with less strict rules. I don't see why you're so intent on hanging around here if you don't like the atmosphere.
These threads come up every so often. I just want to say that I think the moderation team does a good job 95% of the time. There are times I think something should be done and something isn't and other times I think something shouldn't have been done, but a penalty was given anyway. However, overall, I respect their judgment, especially in the rulings forum (which, admittedly, is where I hang out the most).
Pros:
Serious discussions can be kept serious
Derailment of threads tend to not happen as much.
Bots die at an all time speed
Members have a sense of security
Can drive people away *some in which that are Bad*
Cons:
Can drive people away *some in which that are great*
Can open an ego trip of power up.
Mis-translation of what the rule TRULY means
The death of funny
Way too serious tone and makes the place forget what fun is suppose to be.
You need a ground in which funny and serious stand. Right now the pendulum has swinged into the too serious zone BUT will eventually swing back into the middle and then too much fun...
I'm still a little unclear about when Warnings are given before Infractions, but otherwise I think they do a great job here. It keeps threads relatively uncluttered, and allows you to read up on the subject without the useless jargon. This is really helpful when studying a competitive deck.
About what I said in the first line, though, I was given a spam infraction for not providing a card link to a card I asked about in Rulings. I've no problem with it, I can see how it would be annoying and wouldn't do it again... but I was unsure of why no warning was given.
It's been awhile since I went over the rules, I'll have to take a quick peek to refresh my memory and I'm sure I'll be A-OK.

Oh. I was taking 'Latest Infractions Issued' too literally, then. Sigh, I really am just a simple carbon-based lifeform.
Forum A, a Magic site, is fairly active, with a large number of registered members. There are subforums that divide the site into many different areas, with different levels of acceptability in certain areas- such as serious talk and a bit of leniency in a political talk forum, and a short list of rules in the Magic Rulings forum that help everyone. Our rules are there to keep order. Spam might be quite subjective. I'm looking over your infraction record right now, budget player cadet, and while the comment you made might be funny, it didn't contribute to the rules question at hand. In a humor area that would have been more appropriate.
On to your infraction- spam for a one-line post in Debate.
Debate, as it is commonly known, is a place for you to express your thoughts and feelings about a particular topic. This is generally more than a single line along the lines of "I agree" or "+1 post". There is a sticky at the top of the Debate forum with the rules for that particular area. I'm almost 100% certain that somewhere in there it says that one line responses are generally not enough content... yes, here it is, by Senori, one of our past Debate mods:
Also note that "I agree with xxyy" does not constitute debate.

As for the other infraction, ask any ten users here and they'll tell you that editing your post after a mod has redtexted it is a REALLY bad idea and a sure way to gain another infraction.
So while it may seem we as the staff are picking on you, we aren't. We are enforcing the rules, which is why we were modded. I'm sorry if you disagree with our forum rules.

Yeah, I have to say, after seeing some other message boards, the moderating team here is really great. I mean, i'm on one board where the admins are just out looking to ban people, and usually when they do ban people it involves alot of cursing and needless spectacle. That board is also plagued with elitism and flaming. So, in conclusion, great job guys, MTGS has one of the best moderating teams i've ever seen.

Go to another magic site with boards that aren't so strict and see what it's like before you judge the mods here. I belong to one where it's impossible to have a serious, or even not serious, just to have a discussion for all the spamming and flaming. Mainly I would advice that before you hit "Submit Reply" take a moment to think "Does this add to the discussion, or not?"
The fact that the rules are strictly enforced here is the sole reason I'm on these boards so much. If you look at my post count to the side you'll see that I've been here for years and only have a couple hundred posts. The vast majority of those have been within the last six months. That's because I initially started coming for the spoilers, but had assumed that the message boards were just as much of a zoo as they are on most other sites. When I realized that this is one of the few boards I've ever come across where you can actually have an intelligent discussion I became far more active.

Expression of personal opinions is fine, as long as it doesn't break the rules (usually, it doesn't). Even critisism is fine (in my book) because constructive criticism is a good way to let your feelings be known and possibly fix a problem.
I was having a look at the site you referenced. The rules do seem to be rather strict, as you stated, but some of the way things were executed were a bit harsh even to MY mind. I don't think I'd want to be relegated to the Dung Heap or get a personal message from a moderator stating my post was "******".
Different rules for different sites, of course, and on the whole I agree with the penalties that were handed out to the few whose infractions I looked at. I just disagree with the execution.

I don't think I'd want to be relegated to the Dung Heap or get a personal message from a moderator stating my post was "******".
Different rules for different sites, of course, and on the whole I agree with the penalties that were handed out to the few whose infractions I looked at. I just disagree with the execution.
