You gotta think in the big picture. The strategy forums look nice. Anyone who happens by, even newbs to magic, can go to any strategy page, and find links to every card mentioned. If you start letting people post without using card tags, others will start posting without card tags, then the forum will start to look less nice, more lazy and chaotic.
It's all about keeping them consistant and functional.
Salvations strategy mill looks nice it looks professional and it's good to keep it that way. A majority of the other forums are sloppy.
Theoreticly speaking, if someone who is just trying to grasp the game came in and posted in the rules forum, and they have a question involving Islands but they forget to use card tags would that result in a warning?
I just want to say i've never had any problems with warnings and infractions on sally, mind you i only ever post on the "whoever posts the 10,000th post wins" thread...

Basic lands are exempt from the card tag rule since everyone knows they're Basic Land--name=type. Same with any placeholder vanilla creature like Grizzly Bears or Hill giant, so long as it's well-known as a vanilla or explicitly stated as a vanilla (and its creature types aren't involved, since those change all over the place :x).

It's not really all that hard to make it a habit of card-tagging cards that are mostly relevant to discussion, even outside of Rulings. I card-tag as often as I feel it's necessary, and don't find it unusual to have a rule regarding card-tagging in the Rulings threads. As mentioned before, it's easy to give wrong advice for cards with unique or easy-to-forget-exact-wording.
MTG Salvation has I think very fair rules, and helps maintain a professional image. I think it overall is good for the internet world in terms of posting etiquette and such. Also, there are Stickied rules threads at the top of like, every page. In bold. If I'm new to a site I'd want to read them. There are a lot of simple posting rules that are too often not adhered to which would be avoided by a simple 30 second trip to the rules thread.

warnings are just that, warnings.
they don't really amount to anything, they're just reminders to do something (or not do something) that you aren't/are doing.
they don't really count against you unless you go on some kind of massive card-tag-denying-tangent where no card tags are used and you flame people for not using card tags.
getting upset that you got a warning is like getting upset over being stopped for having a taillight out (even though 9/10, you don't actually have a taillight out and the cops are just busting your balls); it's just to keep you safe from doing something that may be potentially dangerous (also the word dangerous is used liberally here).
If I can change the subject to just "card tags" for a second here. Why don't more people use card tags in the Market Street forums? Do they get warnings there? I sure wish they used tags.
My 2 cents.

As far as I know, card tags aren't mandatory in Market Street, but I fully agree with GeoMike and wish more people would use them. They're quite helpful.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

Can we also get a way to make [foil] tags also have [foils] Like how [card] has [cards] As well.

This would be a wonderful idea. I'd also like to see [foil] compatible with the [deck] and [cards] tags to make listing even easier.

With all those conditional statements, you may as well just say "even with vanilla creatures."

My anecdotal evidence disagrees with yours! EXPLAIN THAT!
With all those conditional statements, you may as well just say "even with vanilla creatures."
Or we can say "just use card tags plus common sense" The exceptions are unwritten, just like there are all sorts of unwritten exceptions to just about any rule.

I post on forums unrelated to Magic for high-tech satellite hardware, and the other users flame you with complete impunity. I like the fact that mtgsalvation is very consistant and vigilant about post QUALITY and it has surprised me from the beginning that the mods have the time and resources to monitor users to the extent they do.
The mods drew a line where they drew it. It's an age-old phenomenon whenever anyone gets a little bit over the line to be upset about it, but that's how the line (rules) work. Thank goodness.
The mods here are decent and rarely infract unless its truly necessary. Warnings are meaningless unless you happen to rack up 5+ in one day.
They might find that puzzling especially if all 5 were not using card tags in the rules forum.
Let me put it to you this way every time I have met and talked with a DCI certified Judge at a tournament about a ruling. They need to see the cards to make a decision. Saying well, "Even though they are helping me out its there job to know the card or look it up." about the judges here.
Is complete and utter crap they are doing a service to you for 0 dollars and 0 cents per ruling. Most DCI judges you talked with in real life would not give you a ruling if they can't read the card so its a similar thing.
I appreciate the rules gurus here and they are doing a GREAT job giving a very competent and complete FREE service. They usually have more accurate rulings then most DCI judges I have met in real life.
I wonder if anybody would be sad if somebody commited suicide over an infraction. Or blew up a building or something ^_^.
Besides, deck tags are great. I hate having to open a new window and then typing the card myself. If you think the idea is dumb just go read around the forums and see a card you dont know and wish you could simply click on it to see what it was...but its not tagged! damnit! Now you gotta do all this work to see what it is. lol.

It really amazes me how often these threads about card tags and other rules situations pop up. Like it's the end of the world that you have to use card tags or follow any other forum rules. None of it is rocket science, and if someone's that upset about it then why don't they just find another forum? There are other MTG forums out there that let you spam and flame all you want.
