Ya know the sad part? Thats only like 1/10th of all the mod lounge drama that actually went on in the beginning. There were flair ups of arguments/etc on just about everything that happened. Alex becoming Alex+, one admin warning another, the list goes on and on. We really were MTGDramaQueen for a while :/
BUT.. since about the time of the Gobo/Bel switch, and especially after sneaky was admined, we've been pretty much drama free. A few small flair ups here and there, but fairly minor things - and you could count them on one hand.
I bet the few of us that have been around since the beginning will gather around in the lounge one day telling old war stories and start start saying "when I was a mod of your age.."
If I remember, r_e deleted him to get rid of the posts, or something. I remember someone saying "oops," and then no one cared.
It was Wolfwood, and deleting the account instead of banning him ended up with someone else registering the name, and it being impossible to search for the posts to delete them all
You may remember M Shumate, liar extraordinaire and dramawhore. Once he got angry that the mods weren't listening to him or something and so he claimed that MTGS was falling apart and started his own site, modeled forum-for-forum off of MTGSalvation. He did the same thing that MTGS did to MTGNews and would advertise it anywhere he could, and then complained of prosecution when we'd delete the ads. The site was so unpopular that he actually offered monetary compensation to people who would post on his site, most of whom were others who were also dramawhores assured of MTGS' falling apart and that there would be an "exodus" (god i hate that word) to M Shumate's site. I don't even remember the name of the site. None of us in the Mod lounge really cared or felt threatened by the "competition" but we always kept tabs on it because it was so hilarious and pathetic. I think their forums ended up getting hosted by magicdeckvortex.com for a while and then disappeared.
Yes. I was looking back on my awesome trolling posts, and I noticed that it was the M Shumate introduction thread that pretty much banned me; I said, after he was whoreing himself out to try and be a "nice guy" who is so random and creative that he put the peanut butter jelly time banana in every single post (sarcasm included), "Your posts are like your mom. They suck."
Belgareth obviously warned me, because he's the pre-Krashbot Krashbot. Since I despised him, I edited my posts to change Belgareth's message of something like, "Flame warning - Bel" to "I love SNIP - Bel" and linked it in my sig. Well, one day he clicked on it, and then that's when I think that I was banned. It was pretty sweet.
In addition to hating Belgareth, I also remember hating ButteBlues. But since you troll in the gutter...
EDIT: So as to not get myself banned again, I have now found the gutter, and that will occupy the great majority of the time instead of just the regular forums where I can't be offensive. Ban me if you want, I guess -- I'm not going to hide my identity.
Now I had no job, and the truth was, I didn't want one. Unemployment took care of my Taco Bell and Cloves needs - and mom paid the rent and filled the refridgerator despite her nagging - so why get a job? The computer was all I really needed.
I will attest to the fact that I was a royal ****ing douche bag once upon a time.
I'm a lot better about that these days.
Don't worry, BB -- we all were. I'd imagine that my first year or so on 'news, if I would have become a mod, I would have been a big douche, too.
The past is the past, though. Douches no more.

Another: There used to be a guy named IBeatTomGuevin who posted in T2 a lot. Now, in my experience, most people who are good at type 2 and post about it on our forums are huge asses, or at least a higher percentage of them are asses than people who are good at other formats or who post in other forums. Finding a good T2 mod is really hard, by the way. Anyway, IBeatTomGuevin was no exception, and he eventually got banned for, surprise, being an ass. He got really pissed and, one morning around 4AM when I was doggedly working on some Physics homework, IM'd me. I should have just blocked him, but I was an idiot and tired and so I humored him. I humored him for two hours as he was a general ass and acted condescending and accused me of a lot of stuff including favoritism and conspiracy. Then he threatened to post the IM (on the aforementioned M Shumate site, which had become a rallying point for people determined to "attack" MTGS). I was pretty much "okay, go ahead, nothing incriminating in here" and he got mad and I finally mustered up the brains to block him and go to sleep. I posted the whole log in the Mod Lounge if anybody who has access feels like posting it. It's pretty hilarious and embarrassing, for me and doubly so for him.
Hey now, I feel I deserve some credit for that. Over the 2-3 months he was actually posting on MTGS, I got into numerous arguments with that tard. Slowly but surely, I ground his patience into dust. He used to not really care about anything anyone had to say, but i changed that, slowly but surely. Basically the only reason he exploded was because of my continued dogging. I just didn't know he would go to you and ***** about it. And for that, I am sorry for wasting two precious hours of your life.
Then there was IxidorsDreams, Ibeattomguevins right hand man. He would follow him around, circle jerking him at every possible moment. My solution? I got him banned, only a lot more directly then what I did with Tom. I got him to explode in an MSN conversation with me, which I promptly saved and posted on one of the Standard threads. As soon as he got whiff of that he spammed multiple threads, calling me pretty much every word imanginable and claiming I made the whole conversation up, and was out to get him. Well, I was out to get him, and he did exactly what I wanted him to do.
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.
Damn Darnation! That was a great post Unca' Gobberboy. Read it all word for word. I was a lurker-member for a long time, but didn't start activly posting untill around the time you became admin so I missed most of the dramabombs.
When you (kingcobweb) first got your current custom title, R_E didn't like it and thought it was obscene, but was unaware what one of the words meant. This is the story.
I think most people know what tits are, and "cooter" is synonymous with p*$$y, sn*tch, or c**t. The only other definition I can find is much less commonly used, and is "drunk redneck" - not the definition implied when one says "tits and cooters". I THOUGHT it was obscene?
At the time, I was a really pretentious dick and was being retarded and decided to be cavalier about nipples. These days I've flip-flopped.
Actually, you repeatedly insisted that your mom was going to glance at the screen, see the world "nipple", and ban you from using the computer until you left home. You said the word could not appear on the website or you would have to resign and leave the site.
If I remember, r_e deleted him to get rid of the posts, or something. I remember someone saying "oops," and then no one cared.
I kinda wish I can remember... nah, it doesn't really matter.
Also, please note: There is drama ongoing all the time, it's just too new to talk about it here and now. In a year or two, we'll talk about the drama going on recently, I'm sure. It's just that when it's new, feelings can still be hurt, people are still sore, and members involved are still around so we can't badmouth them.
I remember a ton of stuff going back to 2000 or so at MTGN. I have secrets behind the secrets, drama beyond the drama. I don't keep AIM logs or old PMs, but I do have a pretty good memory. But I'll leave it alone for now, and probably forever.

Aww, that's unfair. If we start calling you Unca' R_E, will you change your mind?

Simply because my mother is an overtly conservative ***** doesn't mean that I wasn't a pretentious dick in other affairs during my tenure on the staff.
You of all people should be able to attest that the way I generally conducted myself was less than amiable or mature.
Wow... that brings back some memories from my lurker days. I remember going through basically all that, except the like absolute first bit. I joined January of 05 and have seen basically all of that go down. I remember being really pissed when Mike was demodded and banned because I was a t2 lurker and he was like my mini god. I also remember disliking Ibeattomguevin and despising IxidorsDreams. Some of my earliest real posts were arguing with IxidorsDreams about how ibeattomguevin was wrong sometimes and how IxidorsDreams horrible grasp of puncuation and capitalization pissed me off. He was seriously like Galvatron.
Ohhh got a link from the called thread. Thought I might as well comment on your piece of clan drama.
Here's everything as best as I can recall and with the correct chronology. The stuff I stated as fact actually happened. The commentary is my best attempt at explaining WHY each person acted the way they did. You can take that with a grain of salt.
One day while randomly browsing the net HKKID (that's me) finds a picture of a smoking hot girl wearing nothing but a skimpy bikini. Naturally I saved it to my hard drive. Later on, I posted the picture in the Called thread one day when conversation was going kindof slow.
Lesurgo stumbled across my post. Hes not a called member, but he browses the clan threads anyway (I do the same thing to the Greek Alliance). At the time, he wasn't staff either, just a plain ol registered member. Anywho, if he won't even write "damnation" on a piece of paper you can imagine what he thought of nearly naked hotties. He reported my post (both BB and Lesurgo have confirmed this).
BB sees the reported post and deletes my picture. I was fine with that (well slightly annoyed, but mostly fine). Salvation says you're only allowed to post material that is "PG 13". I thought my picture was within the boundaries, but I wasn't the clan forum mod. BB also edited a message into my post, telling me to knock it off or I'd end up getting a warning. That wasn't ok with me, because I was modding t2 at the time.
If I was mature, I'd have ignored him and the entire thing would have been a non-incident. Instead we argued about it to the point where BB started a thread in the mod lounge. He was more concerned with the appropriateness of my picture, whereas I was just mad he mod-texted my post and threated me with warnings.
This was shortly after the "one admin warning another" fiasco, so the unofficial mod policy was to keep everything private. I thought (and still think) the best way to handle my post would have been to delete the picture, then send me a PM telling me to knock it off.
Regardless, the thread produced a whole lot of nothing except for mod-lounge stink. We (the staff as a whole) reached no consensus on the correct way to moderate a misbehaving staff member. We did manage to agree that my picture was pushing the border, but withing site limits. Um yay?
The entire thing blew over in about 2 days. That's where it would have stayed too, if it wasn't for later events.
-------- A short while later ----------
The Called have a thing for nipples (and boobs), and we commonly use them in our thread titles. After being pressured somewhat by his clan, BB decided to edit the word nipples out of the most recent called thread title.
In my opinion, there's three things wrong with that:
1: The called had been using the word "Nipples" in clan thread titles for a long time (and BB had been the clan mod for most/all of it). If it was inappropriate the most recent time, it was bad all the times before as well. Something should have been done after the FIRST thread title, not the 12th.
2: a) As I said above, MTGS has a "PG 13" guideline for what's appropriate. As anyone who'se ever seen Meet the Parents can attest, nipples and nipple jokes make it into pg 13 movies.
2: b) We have a fairly strict set of guidlines that limit what a mod can do. One thing that's not allowed is to moderate people who aren't breaking the rules. If we accept that nipples are PG 13, then BB was literally breaking a mod-staff rule by changing the name of the called thread
3: This is speculative, but I thought at the time (and still do today) the real reason for the name change was not anything in the site rules, but the goading BB recieved from his fellow clanmates.
This next part is mostly my fault, and I'm pretty embarassed about how I acted here. I said that between this and that earlier picture thing, BB showed a trend of consistantly bad moderating decisions. I wanted him to get fired, but was willing to settle for an apology and nipples back in the thread title.
This was when BB dropped the real bombshell (about 3 hours after the entire thing started). BB said that he had asked Belgareth for permission, and Bel had said yes. This was later confirmed by Bel. A mod breaking the rules is bad, but a mod doing it with explicit permission from an admin is inexcusable. Rather than give bel a chance to explain, I resigned on the spot. I left salvation completely, and it took the better part of 2 years for me to return.
As a non-member I don't know exactly what happened after I left. I do know that Cyan and Sakabatou both immediately jumped to my defense. Somehow Xen got involved, and everything degraded into a flame war with Cyan, Saka, and Xen on one side, and Bel and BB on the other.
In a stunning twist of irony, I retained my friendship with both Bel and Cyan. Both of them did nothing but ***** to me about the other for 3 weeks solid. In an even more ironic twist, BB and I would go on to briefly moderate the same forum at mtgnews.com.
So uhh yeah, that's the full story of why I resigned from staff.
As for IBTG, I was modding t2 with him in it for a while. He seemed ok. We had a few AIM chats, but they were all magic strategy. Well, a few of them were rants about n00bs on the forum, but most of them were magic. Really though, he always respected me enough to behave while I was modding, and I'm pretty sure he had a grand total of 0 warnings when I resigned. He didn't much care for MiKe though, so I'm guessing IBTG got banned pretty soon after my resignation.
Funny story though. That totally fits with the way I remember him acting. Well, aside from being dumb enough to go to that MShumante site. :p.
I was told today that this kid on my team called 911 twice this morning and hung up both times. They called back and his dad answered. The reason the kid called 911? He got an erection and didn't know what to do. I wish I was making this up.
Slight correction: Bel was the one who edited the thread and I'd bugged him for two days to step into the Called thread and tell his clanmates he's the one who'd changed it. (The actual moderation logs can confirm that)
Instead, I got all the blame. How lovely.
Other than that, it's spot-on, and yes I was a giant ****ing douchebag. Apologies, etc.
I still like to believe that Xen made MTGSalvation because I kept telling everyone on news he was a banned user lying to everyone as someone else. I acctually called him out in one thread matching his ips. The only time I every cared about the internet ever made MTGSalvation. You can all thank me later.

Don't mind my posts, they are probably just a product of gang violence
Another day at Sally, there's just nothing quite like a good dose of the old healing Salve. Check your PMs, read over the active threads, stop by the mod lounge for a cup of tea and a glance at the. . . hello, what's this? Another mod has left the site?
MtG:Salvation is always changing, and there are always little dramas that punctuate the time between Spoiler Seasons, a constant flux of names, friendships, rivalries . . but it always hits hardest when it's the staff who have been leaving the forums.
I think we all can agree that that one Aspect of the drama that the Bel Era of drama was maybe the worst we seen. The rest waspretty straight forward and laughable at times compared to this.

All the times that I talked to/interacted with Belgareth were more than ok and by reading his posts and hearing his opinions I always thought of him as a great guy and definitely one of the first members to pop into my head whenever I think of MTGSalvation. To read that Bel's Era of drama was the worst is a bit of confusing, to say the least. I'm not saying I don't believe all this stuff, but I definitely didn't see this behind-the-scenes thing coming. Was Bel really that bad as an admin? He didn't look that way from where I was standing, I can say that much.
