Stu55 was banned for evading his suspension by trading via PMs.
I am upset Stu was banned, and I really do not think the mods made the right call in banning him.
Is there even any proof that he sent PMs to attempt to set up a deal? Screenshots from the other guy?
I'm asking because I talk to Stu all the time, and he claims he did not use the PM system to try to negotiate a trade.
Even if he used IMs, which is not making a deal through MTGS, does that really warrant a permanent ban? I would think a temporary ban or something could be in order, if that, but definitly not permanent.
Maybe I'm not seeing something here, but I'd like some answers. I'd also like to hear what other people think about this.
Not that it's anyones business other than those directly involved but...
Stu used MTGS as a reference point during the PM's.
We have unaltered copies of the PM's from two different individuals. They match.
Stu included MTGS in the conversation and that opened the door for our action.
These are the facts.
Your concern is honorable that is why I responded. Normally I wouldn't have responded
to this because, as I've said before and I'll say again, if it does not involve you and/or
no one involved told you then you don't need to know.

This is a speak your mind forum, is it not?
Am I not allowed to speak MY mind?
I thought the banning was unwarranted, and I felt I needed to say something about it, and I'd like other people to speak their mind because I'm curious about what others think as well.
So, if I mention MTGS in an IM, I'm not allowed to use swear words, bring up controversial issues, etc.?

Stu was a well known member of the forums, and I'm concerned seeing him banned.
You think people wont ask questions when someone like him is banned? Honestly I dont know why he was banned aside from Annorax's description in the Suspended/Banned users thread.
Now I care, I've traded with Stu before, and it was for quite a large sum of money, and he was truthful in every aspect of the word. In my mind, when I see someone like him banned, tagged with the explanation "banned for trading via PM" naturally I'd inquire more.
Also, I honestly don't see, by your explanation, why he would be banned, even if he did simply mention MTGS in some way in a PM. Also the manner you responded to the question was a bit odd, like honestly, nothing on this forum has ever been super-secret, usually questions are answered, but this especially needs an explanation.

You're absolutely right. This is the "Speak your mind" forum. No one said you couldn't speak your mind.
It, however, isn't the "Ask a question about someone else's business and get a answer" forum.
So, you are absolutely free to speak your mind, just don't always expect an answer
from an admin if you ask a question about someone else's business. Tend to your
own and let others worry about theirs.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

I think you quoted the wrong person, I'm aware that this thread (was) in the Speak Your Mind forum, and also aware that I could speak my mind.
However, why are you answering these questions? This doesnt concern you either, so why get involved? Annorax will most likely provide some form of an explanation, and if he doesnt, there's nothing I can really do about it. So I assume you should take your own advice, the OP's question really didnt involve you.
I don't think you understand. I wanted the opinions of the members of this forum, which are obviously also concerned. Stu was an important member to me and to others.
If I wanted to talk to Annorax about this, I would have just IMed him. But then again, it seems nothing is private anymore, so I guess people should just chat on here.
I posted this in the Speak Your Mind section for a reason, so that the public would be able to see how unhappy we are with this decision. I'm absolutely upset that it was moved when it was intended to be posted on the Speak Your Mind main forum.
EDIT: Also, I may not be directly involved, but I think I have the right to state how I feel about a good friend of mine getting banned from the forums.
I'm sorry that you're upset, but this policy's been in effect for a little while now.
Believe me, it's going to be seen and discussed.
That said, the staff discussed this before banning him. We checked things out first. It is completely unacceptable for people to use the site's PM system to profit while suspended. If it had JUST been on AIM then nothing would have happened. MTGS can't police that, but we can stop people who have broken the rules time and time again from continuing to do so.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

If someone is suspended from the forums, why ON EARTH would you let them use the PM system? They cannot communicate with people via posting but they can using the Private Messaging system? That makes no sense.
Also, your letting people use the PM system while they are suspended - so now your going to limit them to using it for non-trading? You should either let them use it for whatever they want (normal forum rules applied mind you), or not let them use it at all.
You are not the first person to ask why this is allowed.
I am beginning to agree with you. The first thought was to allow people who got suspended to FINISH established trades, to protect the nonsuspended party.
If there was a way to set things up so that you could only PM staff... that would work, a little extra work involved, but it would solve this.

We do occasionally have cases where people use the PM system while suspended for reasonable discussion with the staff regarding their suspension.
We do not easily have a way to allow suspended users to only PM a certain subset of users. Therefore, we have had to choose whether to allow users the ability to do this (and punish those who misuse it) or to completely disallow it, and make it substantially more difficult for people to appeal their suspensions.
For now, we have chosen the former.
If it is possible for our technicians to implement a change to the forum software that allows suspended users only to PM the mod staff then I would be 100% for having that done. However I am definitely not a programmer and someone like JDski or Hannes would have to talk about whether something like that is feasible.

Umm how was he a danger to trading if I may ask?
Its not like he committed any bad trading practices or anything. NO ONE said they had a problem with trading with Stu, I don't know where you get this idea that people need protecting from him.
Your saying your hands are tied, but you don't seem to have any idea whats going on! Him being suspended was NOT to protect anyone, its because of infractions that he received. Stu is one of the best traders I know, and you seem to be just assuming things here.
Now that I've caught up on this I'll see what I can do with creating such a system.
Just remember folks, play with fire and you're apt to get burned.
We will not be responsible if you get ripped off.
Go-go-gadget tech-hat!
WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE GETTING RIPPED BY STU?
This has NOTHING to do with his trading practices. The only thing it has to do with is him trading while he was suspended for violating FORUM GUIDELINES.

Okay.
You're focusing on one person and I'm not. I thought I made that clear earlier.
My bad. Maybe, if you could please sir, take a step back and view the
community as a whole? That's what I've been trying to get across.
I believe now that everything I say is going to be misunderstood or perverted
for misinterpretation.

No, I think you just have absolutely no idea what your talking about.
I have no idea how you can even think Stu is a danger to the entire community because of this. He has more references than anyone on this forum, and I bet he's safter to trade with than 95% of the people on this site.
I'm talking about the event of Stu getting banned, and if your talking about something different, then we are NOT on the same page.
Note the "in progress"? Maybe some of y'all should go and re-read (maybe the first read?) the rules?
And, before you even start, the date of the rules last edit was in August.
By the way, for the very few of you who keep coming and complaining about
other people (known or not) being banned, suspended or, whatnot there are many
others that have no problem with following the guidelines. If they mess up they
take it like a human and move on.

Notice, the "may" in that statement.
I fail to see the point of your crusade against Stu55, first you hint at the fact that he is a possible ripper (apparently out of nowhere), then you accentuate the fact that there are very few people complaining, then you suggest I'm something other than a human.
First, where do you even come off saying Stu was a bad trader? Had you specifically had a deal fall through with him at the moment, and can prove that? Secondly, less people notice this because of it's location, this can technically pertain to the entire site now, as it involves something everyone could possible do when they are banned. Also, your the forum tech, thanks for pointing out the edit date, but when I completely read the auto-suspension and auto-banning guidelines for the millionth time a few hours I ago, my eyes must have skipped that part. If it was there before and you never cited it, then I fail to see why you would now.
And didn't you also mention, if your not involved, you shouldn't really comment on the matter.
However, that system Binary suggested would be an excellent feature to prevent something even remotely close to this from happening again.
You are right. Absolutely right. However, because the thread was moved to a
helpdesk and cannot be locked (for obvious reasons) and I appear to be under
attack, I'm to let you lot roll over me?
No.
If you all would kindly get off my back and let me try and make things better
then I wouldn't feel the need to defend myself and maybe, just maybe, I can
get something done.

The rules do not specify that you cannot trade using PMs, IMs, Email, Etc.
Also, I fully agree with the people proposing a new system. Letting people PM while not letting them post while suspended doesnt seem like a good system. People need to get eachother's email addresses anyway.
By the way, its really not right of you talking the way you were about Stu. Your acting like he's a criminal ripper whos a danger to the community.
I will say that for the record in no way was stu55 ever, ever, ever banned for ripping anyone.
The thought here was that A suspended user (no one specific, in general) who had ongoing trades might consider that a perfect opportunity to rip. This is DEFINITELY not directed at anyone in this situation.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

But this is completely speculative, and no evidence can show that Stu55 ever intended to rip, since that statement is obviously targeted at him, and has never been brought up in another case.
So, a private message deems some one to be banned? What kind of power trip is this community on? I think its rather bold. I mean, It's as if Gotham's Finest are patrolling this series of inter weaved social tubes and putting away people for every reason imaginable. I Do not think Stu55 deserved to be banned. No where does it suggest that you cannot PM while suspended. IF its that big of a problem, hand out IP suspentions. Or lock the account for a period of time. Allowing them to access the account with the ability to PM doesn't really, eh, well, prevent anything.

The thought here was that A suspended user (no one specific, in general) who had ongoing trades might consider that a perfect opportunity to rip. This is DEFINITELY not directed at anyone in this situation.

But this is completely speculative, and no evidence can show that Stu55 ever intended to rip, since that statement is obviously targeted at him, and has never been brought up in another case.
